Hey I've been playing CivIV casually for a month or so now, and following advice I've found on the forums. I do ok early on in a game, but start having trouble during the medeival era keeping up with / beating the AI civs. Does anyone have any pointers for me on how to hold my own in the mid- to late-game?

Thanks

Bif

I would say keep up on your tech and dont get too thinned out if you have a big civ. Also dont let your army or nave (later airforce) go behind or get picked off. trade your excess and least important resorces off so you can keep a "modern" army. everything else is common sense..

then again if youre winning by culture still keep up on military but stay on the culture rampage

Are you building cottage improvements? You should, as they help with research/gold/culture mid-game. Keep a strong standing army too.

It is important to know ALL the aspects of the gameplay. If you neglect just one aspect, you can be ruined.

That said, the smaller the map, the fewer cities to manage. Start there with Pangea. Build a "star" (circle) city pattern for maintenance ease. Control population growth with specialists/slavery/drafting.
