pawpaw, people will say Augustus because he is known as "the 2nd founder of Rome"; it is more associated with him than anyone else.

(If you think I'm making that up, I'll give you tones of links to back it up)

However, are you after Camillus per chance?

yes, but if marius was well known as the 3rd founder of rome ( and he was hailed as so ) how could augustus be the second? (not that i'm saying you didn't read this but why did they do it back then ) was it because romulus founder the republic and people were saying since it was an empire now that augustus was re-founding rome?


edit: went to several octavian/augustus sites and none mentioned 2 founder, only being named "father " of his country?

i said in my post i believed you saw it somewhere, i said wouldn't you think the founders would be in order,1,2,3-if marius was the 3rd, how could augustus be the 2nd if came 75 years later? and i said yes camillus was correct

p.s. i visited 10 augustus sites, no mention of 2nd founder, only father of the country have fun at the show

theres only one problem with your calling octavian the 2nd founder--he was never called it. your links say-and i quote, he CONSIDERED calling himself the 2nd founder but choose augustus instead. 2 other links say, i quote ,the senete CONSIDERED calling him the 2nd founder but decided on augustus hence he was never called the secound founder. actually i read quite a few augustus links and looked through some books and those were the first ones that i saw that even metioned the fact ( i told you i believed you did see it somewhere )

Well, he's is known as that and portayed as such by Virgil. If you head back up, you'll see that's why I raised the issue. Whether the Senate made him such is neither here nor there.
