In the 1760s Pulaski led an unsuccessful revolt to end Russian dominance over Poland. Forced to flee, he came to America, where he took up the American revolutionary cause. He distinguished himself at the Battle of Brandywine and was made a brigadier general. Later, after losing an argument with "Mad Anthony" Wayne, Pulaski recruited and organized Pulaski's Legion, which fought in South Carolina and Georgia. Pulaski died during a cavalry charge outside of Savannah, Georgia.
