HOF Mod to be made compulsory.

1. We can never be 100% certain that people are not reloading. But there was never a *rule* about minimum session time, only a recommendation to reduce the suspicion level.

2. There has never been any restriction on playing private games in between GOTM sessions, and we have never asked you to restrict the way you play private games in any way.

edit: crossposted with Alan

The answer to 2 is "OF COURSE". :p The GOTM get the 1hr/session rule, not the private games. Assuming the "1hr rule" isn't lifted though.

Well, Robo Kai, the point in my second question was "between GOTM sessions", I was fearing that loading other savegames would maybe look suspicious to the GOTM HOF record. Glad to know that's not the case.

Thanks for your answers, Robo Kai and AlanH.

I've been playing with the mod in my fun games for the last week or so, and I totally love it. The foreign advisor presents information I didn't even know was available normally until I read Thrallia's post. Information like that SHOULD be easily available if it is available at all. Having to hunt for it is just boring. I'm all for everyone playing with fixed whipping rules and good security.

Hooray for HOF mod.

I'm both a GOTM and HOF mod newbie, I used both for the first time with WOTM1. I guess I was using (and greatly appreciating) it for the improvments it made to the interface, making info I could already see more conveniently available (a BIG help was the page that lest you see what buildings are in what city in a spreadsheet-like chart! It would be nice to have one like that for the religious advisor too, with religions in place of buildings, in stead of the list format we get with vanilla ... nudge nudge :) )

Anyway like I said I was just using it because I wanted to try it & I liked it, not because it was GOTM. But since I like it I have no problem continuing to use it, I would anyway. However ... I now read that it supposedly checks somehwo for cheating & reloads & stuff. I'm not really sure how that works -- and I understand I shouldn't know how it works, otherwise people could maybe work around it -- but it just occurs to me, I wonder how my WOTM1 game submission will be interpretted. I travel for work a lot & I was playing WOTM1 on my laptop when I was away from home, it's a good time killer when I have nothign better to do than watch tv. However when I am home I vastly prefer playing on my faster desktop, and more importanly my Dell 24" FP display :king: So my game consisted of playing a while on one machine, then taking the save file over to the other machine on a thumb drive & playing some there, then back to the first -- back and forth a few times. Is that interpretted as "legal" for a HOF mod submission?

In the end I'll probably do that no matter what, if I have to I'll just not ever submit anything if its interpretted as cheating (or I suppose I could just always play on the laptop, but ... anyone else who has a poky laptop on one side & a 24" FP and a top end card & a much faster CPU on the other can understand how silly that would feel not enjoying it if its there).

That should be fine, so long as you never go backwards in time on either PC.

Thaks for the reply! Forgive me for not knowing who's-who around here, but I'll assume from your badge that that's a definitive reply ;)

For any Mac user watching this space, please check out the first beta version of the HoF Mod for Macintosh here.

It provides most of the Windows version's user feature set, and I need a few people to beat it up to make sure at least this bit of it will perform "on the night" across as many configurations as possible.

Mac users may also want to use it for its feature set during their regular games.

Please note that it doesn't satisfy the requirements for submission to the HoF in its present form.

I'm still not sure why there are people who are iffy about installing the mod.

I was worried about crashes because in Warlords I can't run full graphics for some reason without crashing. I've already loaded the mod for Warlord and found no problems. In fact, it has allowed me to set the grid setting to turn on automatically without crashing the game as was happening before when I tried to turn them on after loading a game, which made WOTM01 annoying when I messed up spacing a couple times. Now I wonder if the Mod will help me run the higher graphics levels again; anyone else test this yet or know why Warlords crashed more than CivIV? A great addition in all ways!!!

The grid is just a 2nd version of the textures that have lines painted on, so turning on the grid involves unloading the old textures and loading the new ones. I guess with the HOF mod turning them on by default it just loads the grid versions to begin with.

I very much doubt that. The HOF mod doesn't change any of the graphics stuff. In fact that can't be changed by a mod as it's not part of the SDK, so I really am sure about that. I suggest that if your PC is not up to the task you really shouldn't take the risk of running the higher textures. If it crashes it might make your game look like you've reloaded, and you wouldn't want to risk spending all that time on a game only to have it rejected :mischief:.

@A'AbarachAmadan: Loading the correct textures to start with *could* improve graphics reliability, as there's always a possibility of memory leaks when unloading and reloading textures. Graphics card firmware has no more bug-proof guarantees than other OS software.

It does sound as if you should check that you have the latest drivers for your card, though.

Do you run Blue Marble? That's a heavier weight graphics pack, and could add to the stress on your system.

What you may want to try is turn off 'high detailed terrain' option if you have this one.. the crashes with map grid does in most cases seem related to having this optioned turned on.

HOF doesn't work well with languages other than english. Well, actually I've only tried with with spanish. I have to switch to english in order to play Wotm :(

Well, I admit that language support is pretty weak. There has not been a lot of call for improvements. Are you speaking of the Babelfish translations, the lack of translation in some mods, or is there something else happening?

If someone want's to fix/improve the tranlations in the Mod's XML files, we would be happy to incorporate them in the next version. :D

No, all out of the box stuff. Everything works fine in Civ4, but in Warlords it crashes. Guess my computer is just on the edge. :( As Gyathaar recommended I lowered the graphics and it worked fine, though I'd gone a little further than he stated and nuked it all to the lowest level and it was working except for trying to turn on the grid when loading a saved game. I'm going to try to walk it back up to just killing the 'high detailed terrain' in test maps to see what will work.

Break

On the real subject on the great mod. Once you've gone HOF MOD you can't go back! Try it if you haven't.

Warlords obviously has some graphics bugs. My computer is definitely not on the edge, and it experiences a few crashes on Warlords, while having none on Civ IV.

In GOMT11, there were no crashes, but on WOTM1, there were two, and so far on WOTM2, there has been one. Been able to get by both situations by reloading from the autosave.

My computer's nVidia driver is up to date, but I have not applied the lastest DirectX runtime fixes from Microsoft. On Civ IV, this made a difference, in the early versions. The full October redistributable is obtainable here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=013C0F78-3C9B-44DC-B8BE-46783BCAC3CB&displaylang=en

Hopefully, the Warlords patch will fix a lot of these issues.

Two subjects to comment:

1.- I think I have found a minor bug to the way HOF handles whipping.
If you play Quick Speed, you have a forge (25% modifier) and you are 25 hammers away for completion, you expect to get 1 less pop and 25 more hammers when you whip. Another "normal" result would be to get 2 less pop and 48 more hammers (for example, chopping post-maths instead of whipping gives 24 hammers, but that depends on the gameitself, not on the HOF, I think). The actual result is 2 less pop, 50 more hammers.

2.- @Denniz: If someone want's to fix/improve the tranlations in the Mod's XML files...

I would like to help with Spanish. Please PM me about the details (or is it as simple as looking for Spanish sentences inside every *.xml file?).

Hopefully, someone familar with whippinig can verify this. Odds are what you found will be true in Warlords as well.

No special details. It is as you say, but there are only 5 .xml files included in the HOF Mod. Just look in the HOF-1.61.008\Assets\XML\text folder. There is a section for each message. Things like "%s1" are where something is inserted in the message at run time.

Code:
<TEXT>
	<Tag>TXT_KEY_CIV4LERTS_ON_WILL_NEGOTIATE</Tag>
	<English>[COLOR_WARNING_TEXT]%s1 is willing to negotiate[COLOR_REVERT]</English>
	<French>[COLOR_WARNING_TEXT]%s1 est disposé à négocier [COLOR_REVERT]</French>
<German>[COLOR_WARNING_TEXT]%s1 ist bereit zu vermitteln [COLOR_REVERT]</German>
	<Italian>[COLOR_WARNING_TEXT]%s1 è disposto a negoziare [COLOR_REVERT]</Italian>
	<Spanish>[COLOR_WARNING_TEXT]%s1 está dispuesto a negociar [COLOR_REVERT]</Spanish>
</TEXT>

Just change what needs fixing and e-mail it to hof@civfanatics.net. :goodjob:

Out-of-the-box Civ4 has babelfish spanish translations for some of the Options' texts.
Some Mods (like Amra/Visa) do not display anything at all if using Civ in spanish (unlike others that display in english at least, without having to switch).
In HOF, some options do not work, as if there was no mod at all.

Also, the spanish in-game log is garbled.
