HOF Version 3 - "Test Run"

Busy.

Not sure why we are still playing.

I'll get to it when I do. Sorry Muzbang for the delay but things have been hectic and this is not the top of my list of turns to play.

I would be down to start another HOF game while continuing this one to the end at the same time. But I don't know how everyone else is time wise.

gps

1 - the is a test game

2 - the game has been over for some time

3 - I lost interest even before that, I am kind of surprised how much that bothered me.

4 - I am really busy but can usually find time for a game I want to play. Every time I think about this one I want to end it one way or another. Don't want to do that

5 - the turn time has stunk and I have been contributing to it per above, which I do not like which makes me hate the game even more.

Don't get me wrong, I like HOF, Usually love playing it even when losing, sometimes it is more fun in some ways.

I am going to hammered at work and home for the next two months or so. I can hold my nose and finish up or someone else, ally or otherwise, can finish if you want. I would be interested in playing again if anyone wanted me to but not any earlier than mid September.

actually this game still hangs in the balence IMO. Semental..I too have slowed up play recently with my move from the UK to the US. But I see it as a much needed distraction. I would suggest turfing your play to one of your allies so you can focus on the more important things going on in your life. Then let us know when things lighten up for you. My take and just a suggestion.

I am all in to finish this game and to start another.

FYI...Have arrived in Montgomery, Al today. Still living out of suitcases for about a week but I do have internet access now. Still very unsettled but will definitely have the time to start a new game in a weeks time.

I like the scenario, it's completely different from what I am used to (and it's giving me a lot of headaches...) But I would first like to finish this one before starting a new one. Turn times are pretty high (usually, when I open the game I spent like 15min just looking at the situation, thinking about what could be tried next --- and trying to remember what went on last time... ;)), so I can't afford a second game like this.

Yes, this is a test game in order to find out, whether the game is balanced. When I played a little single-player test game prior to jumping in as a replacement, I thought, "no way this is balanced! Germany is way too over-powered, I was able to push over Russia in just a few turns on Emperor." But when I started the game against real humans, I was in for quite a few nasty surprises... :D Now I think that Germany has no real chance... Well, we'll need to finish, if we want to find out.

However, semental, I can fully understand your aversions: it doesn't make any sense to force yourself to do things that you actually hate to do. I have feelings like these myself sometimes, and it can really take the fun out of life at times.
In that case, instead of dragging on reluctantly, you ought to find a replacement and free your mind again for the things you enjoy.

As for me, I'm still enjoying the game. (Or let's rather say: I'm again enjoying the game...) I have regained a bit of hope during the last dozen turns or so, and it is an interesting challenge again. (Although I admit that the Allies still have the much better chances for victory and will probably win in the end.)

A comment on the game itself: I've been thinking about it a bit and it seems to me that 46 turns is too short for a big scenario like this. How about making it 2 turns per month for the next version?

Another comment off-topic: I have Churchill's memoires sitting on my bookshelf for a couple of years already and never got around to actually reading them. This game finally brought me back to the topic, and for this year's summer vacation Churchill's memoires are finally on my agenda!

Actually I think Churchill was the most intelligent politician of the WW II era, and Western Democracy owes a lot to him. Roosevelt was brave, but a bit naive... (thinking of Stalin as "nice uncle Joe"...). Charles de Gaulle was a brilliant mind, but too focused on France alone. Only Churchill was wise enough to see the entire picture and to realize the threat that Stalin posed to the free western world. (Churchill knew this probably already as early as 1943?!)

OKay.

Do what is more important first. I was just worried by no news.
And for summer time, it can be comprehensible that some players can't play for some days.

I didn't get anything muzbang.
Could you resend?

It would suprise me if the axis stay alive till the 46th turn.
Japan are pretty much toast thanks to muzbang :goodjob:

I'll send it to you after work, i think i forgot to send after playing :(

Japan are pretty much toast thanks to muzbang

Is that ruse ?

My foreign advisor told me that Japan has more units that we have, and that i'd better take care :mischief:

But, of course, your land is toasted :D

In other way my allies give some information about your capabilities,
you still have oil... that can give a lot of money
You also have many armies, but what are they doing in siberia :crazyeye:

I would suggest that in order to keep the game moving that unless a very experienced HOF player steps in as a replacement....that Lanz or K take over the MAxis side. I enjoyed your view on Churcchill Lanz! Let me know how the readings go? I might like to take on some "Light" reading after we get settled in here in the Deep South!

Not so sure about "light" reading: it's 6 volumes, each of which weighs several pounds and 700-900 pages...
I will of course start with the first volume (the years leading up to WW2), therefore it will probably take me a couple of years until I get to Hinge of Fate (which is volume 4)...
But I'll let you know!

Lanzelot:
Construction Brigades are not allowed on the Eastern Front.
This rule is posted in post #2:
"German construction brigades are restricted to use within Europe
and must stay west of Warsaw"
Sorry, I guess I got a bit carried away...

HA redlines Light Tank near Charkow. Panther Corp attacks and frees POW.
Inf div destroys Flak position S of Tula and occupies VP location.
Panzer div defeats militia between Rostov and Stalingrad.
HB damages railroad near Gorki.

Two HB redline the protective ships near Rostov. A submarine then attacks
and sinks the transport. Two HA sink the cruiser and the destroyer.

Tiger div executes the resistance fighters who murdered the worker troup last week.

A question: when I captured Stalingrad, I did not notice any wonder that might produce partisans, so I guess it got destroyed. However, I noticed that even though the British had captured Kiel, it is still producing submarines... Does it work the same for partisans?

I sent the password to Lanzelot.

I hate quitting but I am just too busy and too stressed, sorry.

I was not sure how the Pacific was fairing but figured it was tracking the same.

This is the toughest game I know to balance. At some point you have to handicap it and balance skill against position. I think EricA is getting the balance in the game much better but it is probably an impossible task.

Semental, Hope your workload lightens up some in the near future! You are definetley an able combatant!!

As to the balence of this version of HOF...this particular game seems to be playing out quite interstingly! The Eastern Front is chewing up men & materiel as it did. The Western Front has seen some interesting skirmishes unlike actual history and the Pacific Front has seen lots of ships sunk. Though the occupation of a Japanese City is clearly out of Left Field on that! But certainly Battles are being fought all over the Globe and a Decisive Victory to date elludes both sides. The real question is....which side will strike the NEXT interesting blow????
