How Are Christians Discriminated Against?

Wow, peter grimes just confirmed that Christians actually suffer from hate crimes for being Christian. Nice job!
Actually, he confirmed the obvious. Almost all those hate crimes were perpetuated by Christians, even against fellow Christians.

Any subset will face wrongful discrimination to some extent. It's just that many American Christians seem to act as if they are a persecuted minority though. Even the give and take of internet debate causes some of them to act as if they have been fed to the lions or nailed to a cross.

So because other groups are discriminated at higher rates than Christians, they have no right to complain? No one ever said Christians were the most discriminated against group, just that they were discriminated against. All this thread has done is prove that they are and that people tend to think it's ok because it's "not that bad".
I agree. Christians should be outraged they continue to be the targets of discrimination and persecution by those who worship exactly the same god. Take Romney, for instance. Even the Republican presidential candidate is not safe from incessant attacks on his religion by bigots in his own party.

Uh...the stat is utterly SILENT on who perpetrated the crimes.

I mean really Form......wth is up with this kind of allegation? I mean are you really trying to falsely label and persecute christians in a thread on that very subject?

How did you come to that conclusion?
Who do you think commits hate crimes against Catholics and other Christian denominations? Atheists, agnostics, and members of the LGBT community?

Why should they be any diffferent than the perpetrators of most other hate crimes against any other group in the US?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_organizations_designated_by_the_Southern_Poverty_Law_Center_as_hate_groups

The SPLC reported that 926 hate groups were active in the United States in 2008, up from 888 in 2007. These included:

186 separate Ku Klux Klan (KKK) groups with 52 websites
196 neo-Nazi groups with 89 websites
111 white nationalist groups with 190 websites
98 white power skinhead groups with 25 websites
39 Christian Identity groups with 37 websites
93 neo-Confederate groups with 25 websites
113 black separatist groups with 40 websites
159 patriot movement groups
90 general hate groups subdivided into anti-gay, anti-immigrant, Holocaust denial, racist music, radical traditionalist Catholic groups, and other groups espousing a variety of hateful doctrines,[3][4] which maintained another 172 hate websites.[5] Only organizations active in 2008 were counted, excluding those that appear to exist only on the Internet. In addition, SPLC reported there were 159 patriot movement groups active in the United States in 2008, up from 131 in 2007, with at least one such group in every state. They maintain 141 websites.[6]

See any mention at all of atheist or agnostic organizations, much less LGBT groups?

Form, either prove this or retract it. This is one of the most vicious ad-homs i've seen in awhile, and you should be ashamed you made such a bigoted comment.

And fwiw, I ( and most reasonable people) wouldnt clain to recognize the KKK as a 'Christian' group at all, since its so obviously in contradiction of so many of Christs beliefs.

@ Formy
OK, so, you have a drawing, and absolutely no evidence whatsoever...
Please show how Christians are proportionally executing acts of bigotry against other Christians in excess of all other groups.
I'm sure you can't.

Your statement, in fact, smacks of bigotry. You had absolutely no evidence for what you were saying, you just chose to assume it.

No, it's ok, because Christians are a majority, and he's in a religious (or areligious) group that is a minority, so he's allowed to say things like that.
Stop being a victim, you are in the majority here in the USA. Your feelings are of no consequence.

Yeah, I guess bigoted hatred only counts one way eh?

How is it an ad hominem? Why would whether they're Christians or not discredit the argument, especially if it's wrong?

Yeah, I guess bigoted hatred only counts one way eh?

I thought you disliked anecdotal evidence, MobBoss. There are jerks and arseholes in every walk of life, as regrettable as that may be.

Wow, peter grimes just confirmed that Christians actually suffer from hate crimes for being Christian. Nice job! And further apparently, even homosexuals get discriminated against and are hate crime victims for merely being heterosexual. Wow. Kind of confirms the comment I made earlier in this thread about everyone experiences hate on occasion.

I must have missed that point in the discussion when people were claiming that christians are never victims of hate crimes - count me out, please :hammer:

It's laughable that you can read my post as a confirmation of your position, when in fact the numbers overwhelmingly show that crhistians suffer a rate of bias crime that is orders of magnitude lower than the rate suffered by homosexuals.

Of all the bias attacks that were rapes, nearly 50% of them were against lesbians. 9 total reported, 4 were lesbians. Even though, at most, lesbians make up 3% of the population.

(from table 3)

It seems like you're just trying to see christian victims while ignoring the vastly far larger group of all other victims. Simple math shows us that christians suffer a nearly negligible rate of bias crime when compared to other groups.

Just have to ask you....did you happen to notice the title of the thread?

Why not? They believe Jesus is Christ and the son of God. Are there other requirements or...?

Yeah, there is this little thing about following his tenets......Saint Peter doesnt really allow Christians-in-name-only thru the gates...
