How do you break a WoW addiction?

Titanic was also popular movie. :mischief:

You cannot possibly count on something having quality by it's popularity.

How many Oscars did Titanic win? :mischief: How much money did it make?

And yes, in some cases you most certainly can attribute somethings quality in relation to its popularity. Again, if it were a crappy game millions of people wouldnt play it.

The vast majority of major guilds use Free For All loot...

Errr. No. The vast majority of major guilds use DKP systems or raid points to bid on dropped loot....most certainly not FFA.

Talking about addiction...

I just love that thread about WoW-addiction and above all how to get rid of it turns into discussion about WoW.

I think it unavoidable to talk about addiction to a game and not discuss why the game is so addicting....

And you had to mention Oscars as some kind of qualification of quality.
Lots of Hollywood crap make loads of money and are popular but critical look kind of shows what they are about but if you really consider them being cream of the crop then I guess it's your problem. However again saying that they are crappy in all terms is maybe pushing it since the producers are doing something right if they are so appealing to the masses. I guess it depends how you define crappiness.

Kind of yeah, but people are already using inside jargon here that other people don't know anything about and if something shows addiction then it's talking with jargon about something when talking about addiction towards that something.

Sorry for laughing but that was pure gold.

Anyway, the way it works is that the person who wants the item and has the most DKP picks up the item under FFA loot. Everyone knows what drops off the boss, and everyone knows how much dkp they (and their closest rivals) have. And everyone knows well before hand who will get what item. So there's no need for a master looter.

No, actually, you just confirmed what I was saying. Thanks! :goodjob:

Err. No. FFA is certainly used in the vast majority of high end guilds. That's the exact opposite of what you were saying.

Thanks for the laugh though, it's always funny when someone won't admit they don't know what they're talking about, but continues to post absurd, contradictory statements! :goodjob:

DKP has absolutely nothing to do with whether a guild uses FFA or a Master Looter.

Well, if you discount popularity by numbers, money or peer review, exactly what else is there?
We can debate this for hours. And this is OT...let me just say this:

Check example Imdb ratings for the movie. Most of over 8 scores come from teenage aged girls. Rest of the scores are mediocre. It doesn't make the movie crappy of course mostly a mediocre which probably because of the hype etc received more than it ever deserved.

If you ask me I don't know what on earth some critics have been smoking when watching Titanic.

I never believed you were follower of Oscar crowd though.

For me, what eventully broke me from WoW was the fact that my friends stopped playing... I just find the content pretty repetitive except for pvp... but then my friends, (my bro included) told me that they really really need a good tank for their group, since I had been theirs and their addiction drove them back to the game.... But I had gotten over it, so now the only way they can keep me tanking for them is that they pay my subscription fee X)

Strange how a discussion goes from quiting an addiction to discussions about the game :crazyeye:.

My (teenage) sister's favorite movie it Titanic. The rest of us think it was horrible. Though I do admit, Leonardo DiCaprio looks really good in blue. *zing*

Has nothing to do with the quality of a movie, particularly on the making money aspect. And I'm a fan of Titanic, at least from a technical view

However, I will agree with you on this - if you believe you are having fun with a game, and are getting some form of enjoyment out of it, then there is no reason to quit it. If you genuinely believe it's taking over your life, then snap the disc immediately or go for the Whomp Method, as he suggested.

How do you do it?

I am severely addicted and i dont know how to play in moderation. I cant get my OT or any CFC posting fix in now.

There is no physical dependance on WoW. You aren't going to go into convulsions and die if you stop playing.

So, just stop playing.

It really is that easy.

Join the army. Its like real life WoW.

Operation Iraqi Freedom

President Bush wants you to search Iraq and recover any Weapons of Mass Destruction you find in the region.

Weapons of Mass Destruction: 0/10

You could always do this! :D

you could stop paying 15$ a month. I think it will go away then

And think about the fact that after 3 months, $60 can buy you another game. You'll be saving 4 games every year. ;)

The only way you break an MMO addiction is to quit, cold turkey. If you're bold, come back in 6 months or so and try to start playing in moderation - but likely you'll never look back.

<- Never played WOW, and thinks it looks like the most boring game ever created, but has invested untold hours into EVE-Online... before quitting.

Go buy a Cream CD.

Listen to it so many times that you can play better than Eric Clapton.

Go to a Clapton concert and attempt to inform him of this in person.

When the bouncers break your arms from attempting to get close to guitar-god Clapton, you'll be unable to use your keyboard, and thus be free of WoW.

As an added bonus, you're now:

1) really really really good at guitar. score one for Zanic with the ladies.

2) have a few really great stories about getting your ass beat by Eric Clapton's bouncers.

3) fighting experience: this will come in handy when combined with #1, when you need to fend off the hordes of raging girls' boyfriends.

4) a great taste in music: Cream is a great band!

5) you'll be free of WoW, and can proceed to become addicted to Civ again! Now that's a righteous addiction if there ever was one! Except of course for sex. If they one day find a way to combine the two, that's it, I'm sold.
