Okay, here's the deal. Whenever I play multiplayer games, with the exception of Team Fortress 2, I always lag. And as you probably know, its annoying. Game settings are lowest, no background stuff, like I end processes, my modem is DSL verizon. And I play on servers near my time zone. I also have a 512mb 8800 GTS, 2 GB of RAM, 2 GB of memory, 2.13Ghz Intel Duo-Core, and I have lots of free space. I also have a 22 inch monitor, which requires me to play in either 1440x1050 or 1600x1200.

What's even worse, is that now lag invades my single-player games. Simcity 4 and societies lag, and so does many other single player parts of games. (Like Call of Duty 4 single player)

Can you help?

Resolution, Detail, and Internet Connection can all apply to lag.

Try different combinations.

And if you've tried it all, it may actually be a corrupt file in the game itself, or the computer.

Try using even lower resolutions. The nvidia drivers I use allow nearly any size for most games.

I don't think it's your system. A GTS and your processor are already pretty fast. What games exactly get lag?

This smells like a virus...

I'll repeat my post....

And if you've tried it all, it may actually be a corrupt file in the game itself, or the computer.

Make sure you try that.

Are your drivers up to date? Have you defragged your system lately? Are you running Vista (if so you may need more RAM 3 gigs helped in some games on my laptop)?

If you haven't done it already, run a spyware scanner.
