I buy CDs when I have the money, which is almost never, but this summer when I get a job I plan on buying more.
Right now I download using Soulseek. It has everything I need. I buy CDs even if I have the download copy, becasue the quality is perfect, plus I get all the album art.

Borrowing them from the library. Rotterdam has the biggest music library in Europe. Most of the time I borrow compilations so I get a lot of similar sounding trakcs which fit my taste.

Sometimes I buy records 2nd hand. They just cost about 2-4 euro. Discovered a lot of great music this way.

An interesting information would be the usual price of a cd in your country. In France, it's insanely expensive : From 15 to 25 (for double cds).
As a result, I don't buy any cds anymore except if I'm really fan of the Artist and I want to detain the "object" which is the official cd. That happened only once since September though. In the other case, I also buy old albums which came out in the 70's and which are also cheaper.
Anyway, current music is crap. Hip Hop has lost its genuine soul. R&B is just sound soup. There's only few French stuff I like a bit still, however, most of French new stuffs come from RealTV and it sucks too. (Am I bitter ? No, I'm not
).

I borrow CD's from the library and copy them. My connection is too crappy and my mp3 player too old to download music. I have over 100 songs on my main hard drive, and over 400 on my second one. The second one I only have for music and some PC Games I play(not Civ). I don't play many Pc games, though, I just download free shareware games when I am really, really bored.

Don't worry, I'm sure the RIAA has some streamlined system that you can turn in people you know with. They'll probably even give you a free CD or two.

I tend to get my music legally. Then again, I listen to music that tends to be hard to find, so I need to search online.

I listen to the radio or steal one of my sister's cd's. I don't care much for it though.

Anyways, the only music I have on my computer these days is music I have on CD, but would rather just listen to on my computer. I don't have any p2p systems, and am satisfied listening to all the Rolling Stones, Leonard Cohen, and Chili Peppers I can get.

I admit, it feel much better to only listen to music I have purchased these days though. My hardcore downloading went when Napster fell, and after that I just listened to my small but delicious collection of music.

I see no difference between people taping the radio, which was a common and legal practice when tapes were popular (and when radio wasn't horrible) and downloading music.

Calm down, man. I don't illegally download music. There are at least 5 people in this thread who admitted to that. Sobieski as well admitted to burning CD's from the library. There are actually 3 people who voted for shoplifting! I refer you to Cgannon's post. It is definitely not different from taping the radio. Besides, I buy Cd's as well, it's just when the CD I want is hard to find(read: old music), I get it from the library. I'm not one of the thousands of people who constantly download music. I actually donate my own money to the library, as well as old books.
