About ciV?

He's balancing the polls. :p

So why are you here?

To make Firaxis/2K release the uncrippled (aka Steam-free) version asap.

After they will have done so, I will start with being excited about Civ5.

I'm actually more "intrigued" than "excited".
The changes seems very important, and it could end up being anything : breaking ground changes making the game fantastic, or crappy changes dumbing it down. Or making it annoying. Or subtle. Or whatever.

As I'm rather suspicious, I tend to not be very convinced by most of the changes, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. Still, it makes me not that much excited.
Also, the Steam debacle has took its toll. Even though, in the end, it won't really matter, it still makes me all the more dubious about the finished product, make me lose confidence in Firaxis, and in the end lower considerably the anticipation.

All in all, I'm not that excited. Two stars at most, and I hesitated with one star.

I voted 5 stars, because Im excited that I will be playing a civ game right when it comes out.... I also like most of the changes and hope they add to the overall experiance. Steam on the other hand gets a no star for excitement..... Boo steam, the queen of refuse... Booo boo booo!!!

even though the steam thing annoys me and the DCL makes me wonder how good this will work out with mods, I'm really excited. I know that I just can't resist the urge to play yet another civ game. since 1991 I bought and played this game in all versions (civRev NOT included), even the infamous ctp and the rts clones. I bought the civ compelation just to get the card game. I'm sure civ5 will have some things that I won't like, but after all: it's civ! it's new! the thing which makes me most excited is the new cultural border system. personally I would be much more excited if they would make MoM2 but since that won't happen in this parallel universe "thanks" to EA, I'm happy enough that at least CIV will be continued.
concerning the steam thing: I don't like this. but on the other hand I have to admit, that in the computer market 2010 small developers (compared to EA) have to do something to get their programmers paid. If steam is the only way to get more "console type"-players to buy a good franchise, I can't complain to much about it. Even though it seems a bit sad, after being 20 years a loyal fan, now to have to use something like steam, just to continue, I do appreciate that I can continue at all. Firaxis is a good company, and if the steam thingy helps them to survive - independent - somehow I have to agree with this way, even if I don't like it.
regarding the changes compared to civ4: I really think, civ5 has LESS content, and I don't like less content in a turn based game. I like MORE content, as in Fall Further or in RoM. But then I also know, that most gamers nowadays just want to play something simple. and they are the ones who are the cash cows. furthermore, civ3 was LESS than civ2:ToT many times, but at the time civ4 came out, civ3 was a solid product, thanks to Conquests and many modders. I think the same will be true for civ5 in about 2 years from now on.
so yeah I am excited that civ5 comes out, excited about the future of it and also excited, that there IS a future for it.

Not all that excited as I thought I would be. I voted 4 stars! I think it will reach 5 when the release date approach :P!

I really expect some thing from Civ V. I can't expect it to be better than IV (at least not until I play it), but so good as in a different way. The gameplay changes seems to have a big impact on the game that makes me extremely curious to see the new face Civ will have! All this excites or intrigues me!

I voted 4 stars, as we know very little. They should have just announced the game at E3 instead of leaving us in a void for 2 or 3 months.

★ ★ for me. I think "curious" would be a more accurate term for me than "excited". I'm much less excited than I was for Civ4, which I bought within the first month. There just hasn't been any particularly compelling news released.

Steam is perhaps -1/2 star. It decided to pull a "I don't feel like working in Offline Mode" for me today, so that's learning towards 3/4 star now. So I played a non-Steam game instead.

I'm newbie to the Civ5 so please give me more specific features that show this games are exciting

I use to be excited for the game, but now, that I read if I buy the game at a brick and mortar store, like EB Games or Walmart, is still have to install steam for it to install. No thank you. I don't like how these big companies are telling us on how we have to play these games now. So I will not be getting this game as soon as it comes out now.

First its special DLC for buying off steam, and now if I buy it else where I still need to install steam. So now for me it's a 1 star, unless I read it wrong. There are other games to play besides Civ V now.

You left out 0 as an option in the poll and that's how excited I am about Civ5 since I learned it would require Steam to install/play.

I was not excited about Civ 3 when that came out, and couldn't stand it when I first played it. Now it is my favorite.

Then I was excited about Civ 4, but it did not hold my interest after playing it, and I was disappointed.

So I have found it is often better not to get your hopes up over a game, only to leave a greater possibility of disappointment. Better left to not be excited over something, so that way there are no hopes to be crushed, and you fare better off in the end.

So I was a "★ ★ ★" before Steam. Now I am a "★" after.

After hearing how Valve will without a doubt eventually start doing heavy Data-Mining (not a question of if, but when) through Steam of your computer's information, that leaves me with "No Stars".
