2 - Upstate New York; We can has lots of land back then
3 - Staten Island, NYC

...I now cry about the nostalgia rushing back to me of the good ol' days back in NYC... :(

Eight:
Coldwell Park Drive
Beaumont Terrace
Cranbrook Avenue
Inglemire Lane
Prince's Street
Wensley Avenue
Cambridgelaan
Wellington Road

edit: nine; I forgot Tennyson Avenue (after Prince's Street)
my vote is wrong now.

I've moved from Wellington Road to MacCurtain Street, so now 10.

Here's a comprehensive list I posted elsewhere (not all places I was at for six months) :

Where have you lived?
not including sleep away camps, or places I stayed under one month. Places I lived in multiple times not re-listed (cities may be though).

  • New York, NY : born
  • Rye, NY : raised from 5-13
  • Cannan, New Hampshire : boarding school
  • Bath, Maine : boarding school
  • Manhattan, New York : psych hospital for depression
  • Hancock, NY : boarding school
  • Stockbridge, MA : boarding school... after I got out, I was pretty depressed and went back to the pysch hospital I was at before, then I got my stuff together, took the SAT, got my GED & went to...
  • Purchase, NY : college ... only one.5 years :undecide:
  • Mamaroneck, NY : first shared apartment (with two other people, they both bailed though so I had to move out)
  • New York, NY : lived with parents for a brief time :nervous
  • Astoria, NY : Three years, my first unshared apartment :yeah: (first started posting on CFC while here ;))
  • Long Island City, NY : one month with my homie Chris (RIP) before I tried California
  • Canyon Country, CA : traveled across the country to try to work with my friend there, it didn't work out and I headed back East three months later, I lived in two different apartments in this town
  • Sunnyside, NY : lived with three Latina sisters & a French girl, wasn't as fun as it sounded, they were kinda biatchy, except the French girl, the Latina girls' mother also stayed there sometimes :(
  • Sheffield, MA : stayed a summer, classes/volunteering at a personal growth center - http://option.org , cool experience, punkbass would've fit in well with that group :)
  • West Palm Beach, FL : decided to check out Florida, I had a job in mind that never went thru and moved back up North after a few months, I had no funds so back to Option (Sheffield, MA again) to volunteer for food & roof, just in time for the winter snows
  • New York, NY : stayed with this chick on the upper west side for a while who turned out to be somewhat of a loon, her son was mad cool though :) (as was her downstairs neighbor :groucho: )
  • Astoria, NY : way more expensive in '04 than '00, I couldn't find a job to support myself there & moved back to Florida
  • Palm Bay, FL : lived with this crazy dude I met on a raw food forum for awhile, eventually he started annoying me so I moved out, a town over to...
  • Melbourne, FL : home of Greadius :), I lived with another nuttier but really interesting guy, when I quit my job annoying people over their dinners, quizzing them about the cable TV features that would like to see added, I came up with the brilliant idea of buying a van and living in that (I found the mother of my kittens from the same guy I bought the van from, she was going to the ASPCA which meant almost certain death; she was 7 years old; so I took her in, my kittens, who I still have were born in the van a couple months later), eventually I became tired of it though & tired of waiting for the crazy raw food guy I lived with before to build his farm - which would give me a free place to live, work, grow, have sex. When my landlord picked a fight with me one day (he was an angry dude), I realized it was time to go. I wanted to go back to NY but couldn't afford so after driving around the state a bit and staying in crappy motels & campgrounds until my van broke and I was pretty much broke I found a $450 tiny apartment in...
  • Miami Beach, FL : Fun but somewhat lonely time. I didn't want to be in Florida anymore but didn't have the money to leave the state yet. For awhile I worked midnight to 5AM at a pizza shop. :coffee: Eventually I met my girlfriend (current) online & moved to her mother's house in...
  • Nutley, NJ : a good time, one of hope and a bit of happiness. I worked a pretty good job at an organic clothing store in Manhattan (took the bus with Jamie in the mornings :love) and was happier than I'd been in a while. But Jamie's mother didn't care for me much and we both wanted to move away from NYC so, after talking to a friend there so hit
  • Vista, CA : Crappy apartment, roaches, my girlfriend Jamie got a job in Solana Beach so we moved there. Worked at Goodwill briefly.
  • Solana Beach, CA : Didn't like it much but wanted to be with Jamie. Was a rip off and I had to ask my folks for money to keep up my half of the rent.
  • Felton, CA : Hooked up with a dude on the peak oil boards who was telling me about FOSL so I checked out one of their meetings, really enjoyed Santa Cruz area and decided I wanted to get the hell out of SoCal. We found a nice older couple at the meeting who gave us an excellent price and we moved in.
  • Monterey, CA : Stienback wrote a book about it. Nice city by the water. Jamie and I's mutual friend needed a housemate and let us stay with her really cheap for a month before we moved to...
  • Torrey, UT : Middle of friggin' nowhere town but I went (for a nice chnage) due to a (meaningful!) work opportunity. $11/hr off the books. Rent virtually nada ($125/month for shared room) and wholesale food (lady I worked for got organic bulk orders thru her bed & breakfast). I don't care for the desert though and didn't see myself settling down there so I went back to Felton, CA to reconnect with FOSL and others here & settle down for at least a year or two (maybe more depending on how long it takes for my crew to get a permanent landbase). I've made a major decision (more in the WC later) which will limit my travel but ultimately be very good for me. More at 11. :)

update

That list was from August 21st, 2007. Since then I've lived in :

San Marcos, CA (two months)
Ojai, CA (six months)
Nutley, NJ (long story, couple of months)
Columbia, SC (two months)
Nutley again (one month)
Shutesbury, MA (six months)
Lindenwold, NJ (three months)
Pitman, NJ (three months)
back in Shutesbury (present)

I'm moving to Bloomfield, NJ April 1st to be with my daughter & her mother. Will be there for one year. After that I'd like to move (on average) between 0 and 1 times every twenty years. It's been exhausting! :ack:

2 - Upstate New York; We can has lots of land back then

Depending on whom you ask, "upstate New York" refers to pretty much any part of the state north of New York City . . . where in upstate did you live?

When I had to fill out a security questionaire to work at ORNL. I listed 18 addresses for the previous 15 years. There were 3 or 4 addresses before that and perhaps 15-20 or so other places since then.

  1. Apartment in Würzburg, BRD
  2. (Different) apartment in Würzburg, BRD
  3. House in Slidell, LA, USA
  4. Duplex at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, USA
  5. House at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, USA
  6. House at Ft. Irwin, CA, US
  7. House in Daphne, AL, US
  8. House in Schweinfurt, BRD
  9. House in South Riding, VA, US
  10. Dormitory in Fairfax, VA, US
  11. Apartment in Fairfax, VA, US

There might be a twelfth in there, "house in Center Valley, PA, USA", but I'm unsure if it was for six months or less and I was too young to remember it.

Update

Well,
1 for my parent's house
2 for Sophmore dorm
3 for Junior dorm
4 for senior apartment
5 if we count the time spent at my parent's condo
6 my leased condo (the owner sold the unit so I had to move out)
7 my new leased condo

Nice necro...

15 or 16 for me... so I voted for 16.

6 countries
3 continents
3 states (USA)

1: The house my parents rented when I was very young (newborn - nearly 4 years old)

2: The house my parents had built, lived there for 5 years.

3: The farm we took over shortly before I turned 9 (farm had previously belonged to my grandmother's cousin and her husband, they never had children, we bought it cheap when they retired). Parents still live there.

4: Stayed with a host family in the USA as a foreign exchange student for about a year (when I was 16-17).

5: The room I rented (shared kitchen and bathroom with three others) in the city where I went to uiniversity. Stayed in the same place for nearly seven years (it was pretty cheap).

6: The small apartment I rented all by myself for about ten months after moving out of the previously mentioned room.

7: The somewhat larger apartment I bought, after deciding that renting was throwing money out of the window. Lived there for five and a half years.

8: My wife's apartment, which she'd bought before we started dating. Moved in with her after a year of long-distance dating, and sold my old place. We lived together in that place for (counting) about two years and nine or ten months.

9: Our current home, which we own together; moved in there a few months before the birth of our son (we needed more room). Have lived there for nearly two years now. It's a medium-sized row house with three bedrooms; probably going to stay there for some years to come.

Romania doesn't need gypsies when they have you :)

;) I take pride in my nomadic lifestyle! :D

Actually, one of the people I respect most in my life proudly says about himself and people like us that "we are strays". I maintain my opinion that there's absolutely no experience that I'm familiar with that teaches you more about life and everything than traveling.

I think 14, but that's counting 4 month (semester long) periods of co-op.
