Well, the thing is that I will have a lot of free time this summer so I'm thinking about becoming a moderator in this forum. I know I'm quite new here, but I tend to like this board, especially the off-topic part of it. ;)

As a result, I was wondering how do we become a moderator? Do we have to send any candidacy? And who is managing the whole thing? How moderators are chosen?

I've realized moderators are widely conservative people in here. Is it a problem if I tend to be more liberal than them?

Feel free to answer. :)

They are moderates

You must slay an existing moderator and bring his head to TF. You then replace that moderator.

Usually, moderators are chosen among people who precisely do NOT aim at becoming moderator.
Thus ensuring that people chosen aren't interested in the power that their status give them.

So bad luck, friend.

Be a CFC mderator?

Only the inner grand council of the Illuminati can make such edicts!

Becoming a moderator is a kind of punishment for being a longtime, contributing member who sticks to the rules.

I think I've got sufficient warnings and bans over the years to eliminate the risk I ever become one ...

Well, Akka, I didn't say I wanted to become a moderator because I'm power greedy. It's simply because I'll have a lot of time to waste in front of my computer so I've tought I could be useful.

So they are just chosen like that? Who chooses them? By the way, the fact they are chosen like that doesn't prevent several of them to look for power.

This topic is, afaik, a bad juju.

To become a moderator, try theft of identity... :mischief:

Well obviously moderators are chosen in a lot more obscure way I thought they were. Sorry for my naive question, I've just thought we could apply for the job. :(

you don't become a mod, you are born as one.

Free time huh?

How about applying for a job as a civilian aid at the local police station?

Or, if working isn't your thing, you could opt for a new hobby... I heartilly recommend swordsmanship!

This question belongs in the Site Feedback forum (and I'm sure a mod will come by and move it there), but here's a link to the most recent mod-related thread in there:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=86904

And yeah, asking to be a mod is probably the surest way to avoid being selected, from what I've read in the Site Feedback threads.

Yeah you're right. As obviously I have no chance to become a moderator here, I guess I will apply for a real job where we are with real people then. :)

Moderators would, CS's claims nonewithstanding, be chosen by Thunderfall.
So all mods are chosen by the same guy? Is that the reason why they are widely conservative? :D

PS : Thank you for the tip, I've removed that part from my earlier post.

Just a question because it's not clear in forum rules. Is it against the rules to talk about the political leaning of the moderators ? If that's the case, please tell me so that I could remove the post above. :)

Speaking purely personally I dont feel that my political beliefs have any influence whatsoever when I moderate. I look to see whether posters have flamed or trolled or broken the rules in some way. If you feel that a moderator has been influenced by their political beliefs you may PM Thunderfall who is the final arbiter. It is indeed he who selects mods for his site although candidates are discussed in the mods back room over a beer ot two.

If you wish to become considered for modship, then make yourself useful. A history of positively contributing to the site whether by thoughtful posting or by useful bringing together of reference threads would be a good start. All of the mods have been around quite a while and have shown that they are capable of good judgement and have contributed to the site in their different ways.

The ability and means to restock the staff fridge is also taken into account.
