How moderators are chosen ?

Its a virtual fridge so all you have to do is pretend to fill it and no one will ever know...

LOL! Sorry to Spam, but this is hilarious. Don't Mods have to be dropped opn the head or something? lol, j/k.

Uhh, ya, the best way to become a Mod is to do not do what anybody in OT does, so don't break the rules. Of course, I have yet to actualy read them . . . and ya, apparently you aren't supposed to ask to become a Mod. I ask to NOT become one, mainly 'cause I don't wanna be one. Trust me, it not worth it. I am a Mod on the new Model Parliament Forum, and I don't like it too much.

Just a question because it's not clear in forum rules. Is it against the rules to talk about the political leaning of the moderators ? If that's the case, please tell me so that I could remove the post above. :)

I think this has become a non issue recently as moderators largely avoid any of the political debates. It seems necessary that at some point moderators can leave an arguement without getting too involved and allowing it to become personal. Specifically one event in the past has shown where strong opinions can lead to questions over whether a warning or a ban is an over reaction when it is the same moderator that is argueing. So I guess this is another requirement to find people who will not take discussions on the forum too seriously and allow them to influence their actions.

It's, as far as I know, not against the rules. It's definitively unhealthy to suggest that mods might the politically biased when carrying out their duties, tho.
hmm, I know XIII was accused of being a commie a while ago. :mischief: :p :D

I've realized moderators are widely conservative people in here. Is it a problem if I tend to be more liberal than them?
Well, you realize wrong.

I have absolutely no interest in politics - as for leanings, you can call me a fence-sitter.

And I don't even bother to join in the 'debates' in OT - not since I've signed up with CFC; not unless I happen to come across particularly ignorant posts relating to my part of the world specifically...

I've been accused of being both a communist and an arch-conservative. Neither is true completely. I make my own decisions on issues, and adhere to the platform of no party. If you think I am conservative, then you are wrong. If you notice I have conservative viewpoints on some things (meaning my opinion happens to match that of most conservatives), then you are correct. There are also many, many things I disagree wholeheartedly with most conservatives on.

I also don't bother replying most of the time if I am simply going to post agreement, so most of my posts show my disagreement with liberals on certain issues, as OT is overrun with liberals these days, and the majority of posts have a heavily liberal bent. ;)

Many people don't like to admit they have been moderated for violating forum rules and like to demonize the person who enforced them by claiming it was for political reasons.

Very true. I've been called a Communist, a fascist, a neo-liberal, and a neo-conservative, amongst other more colorful expletives.

It seems some people would rather think every Moderator has a grudge against them rather than admit they may have done something wrong.

I think the easiest way to become a mod is to take up arms and to start the new revolution.
As I said in another thread we should derail the Mod's train on their annual outing. (I hope they overlook this post):mischief:

And Goober, that post is blatantly an advertising podium, pretending not to be interested!

I for one can make a case about the fairness of the MODs in here. I have joined most of the heated threads in the OT over the last two years. Quite oftenly, being very controversial, not uncommonly posting against the opinion of one or another mod - and yet, I never got a single ban, nor a single warning, ever.

Respect and you shall be respected, is all I see at CFC.

Regards :).

I would like to think that a poster who had been banned over 3 years ago would not have this held against them...

I don't think so either...but then again...TF and the mods have extremely good memories...hmm...I may have to rethink that one...

So they are just chosen like that? Who chooses them? By the way, the fact they are chosen like that doesn't prevent several of them to look for power.
I wouldn't know what power to look for. I can edit everything I want, delete entire threads, ban everyone... Then what? There is no power here. It's just a forum!

I remember Lefty deleted a post of mine because it was a troll (not intentional). I felt...uneasy. It's no fun being warned, having to admit you're wrong.

 Even though it's just a forum.

i don't think swearing will help TLC.

the best way to become a mod imVVVVho is to be quiet and and get your postcount up (demogame/model parliment) might help, show leadership (governer, president, or head of a political party), make friends (i couldn't give you any advice there  ), don't get in trouble, and be able to have a conquest victory on sid with OCC, with max civs, and playing a modded version where you have no traits, no UU.

I did make friends with a couple of mods, soon after they ended up quitting their positions and rarely post here now... Also I don't think OT mods have to win at Sid although somehow I think you might be joking...

As a result, I was wondering how do we become a moderator? Do we have to send any candidacy? And who is managing the whole thing? How moderators are chosen?

I think that TF needs to know the person and trust him to be a moderator.
Build up your reputation, do the right things, and in time you can be our new moderator.

Do not expect this to be an easy job though. There are a lot of people posting in different locations and you either need to surf through these places, or wait for a reported post.

People that cannot gain power in RL ( :crazyeye: ) tend to seek it in ways they would be looked up on, but when you look at it again, it's really no big deal and really not worth it.

That's the point, he does not appear to want to be a mod at all! ;)
