How the RNG can completely destroy a game

This also applies to spy missions and the like, and even seemingly random events like building a Wonder only to have someone complete it a turn before you without being able to switch to another wonder.

 But you can switch to another Wonder, provided you don't have any "tainted" shields in your box. And what's so random about it, obviously the AI has been building the Wonder for quite a few turns.

Wonders are even worse. You are building some great project when you recieve some sign from the gods that you can no longer proceed and you trash all of your efforts??

Again, what's the problem? There can only be one of each Wonder, so if the AI beats you to one, that's just tough luck. Sure it sucks to lose all those shields, but you can't expect to keep building it.

Get over it dude. Sometimes history really does turn on a few crucial events. You've just got to be prepared to cope with a few tough breaks in each game. Sometimes your tanks all lose to a spearman, or a crucial city flips on you, or tha AI beats you to a wonder at the last moment. Being prepared for bad luck is part of the game. Your problem isn't that the city flipped. The problem is that you didn't know the mechanics of resistance and you didn't have a plan B. Now you know and it won't happen again.
