How to Defeat George Bush

:goodjob: I enjoy playing this mod and appreciate the work you did on this scenerio. I do have one complaint, why are you trying to start a political fight in a game forum? There are plenty of political avenues to state your opinion. I play Civ to escape my work, and want to keep it as an escape not an extension of work.

A few other points to ponder:

1. President Bush is the President, and no matter what we respect our leaders and refer to them not by last name, but by title. Whether you agree with the President, or not, it is a sign of respect for the office. If you do not like the President, respect him, but work against him in a political arena and win with issues and debates.

2. Name calling is for amatures. The comments about being a friend because he is an idiot, is nothing more than name calling and childish. In addition, the President is not an idiot, if he was why did Kerry not win?

3. I do not know who made the comment about the sniper scope and stealth to deal with Bush, but they should be aware that threats made against the President are investigated by the Secret Service. I know most of it was a joke, but I don't joke about bombs in an airport, do u?

Anyway, everyone is welcome to their opinions and to debate issues. I however want to focus on games and gameplay. When we do get political, let's respect each other, each other's ideas, and not resort to name calling.

I love this game!

Thank you for your interest!
responses:
1. Not using his title in-game though, was part of my plan. No disrespect inteded. None of the other leaders got that privilege either.

2. I think I might hava called him a fat idiot or somthing of the like, but that's because I, too, am an idiot. Kerry did not win because he conceded.

3. I DO NOT SUPPORT DEATH THREATS ON MY THREAD EITHER!!! I plan on pegging that post to remove it.

I agree, we are all civfanatics in here, so we all have something in common, and we can all be friends or at least tolerate each other. :)

There's an easy answer to that... cognitive dissonance... nuff said, don't wanna start a political discussion, just to put things into perspective.
To sum up: 1) the winners aren't always right (well maybe in a football game they are), 2) it has to be allowed to make fun of any person on this planet although there have to be 3) limits of tact and propriety...

Oh well, here goes, I cannot refrain from commenting anylonger:

1) I tend to respect people based on virtue, not position. Would you have respected Hitler had you been as unfortunate to live in his era? I generally feel that all beings demand respect on some level, regardsless of position, social status, religion, race, etc.

2) Yes, I would not generally encourage seeing anyone as an idiot, president or not.

3) I think it is safe to say that whilst your president has some support by his countrymen, there is widespread criticism coming from other countries, and people should be allowed to vent such opinions. I think seeing this as a threat against the president is perhaps to stretch things a little.

I too think that these forums are for discussing gameplay mainly, but given the historical and political content of the game, it is fairly hard to leave such topics out alltogether. I think however, as I said in an earlier post, that in politically sensitive times, it would go a long way if people could refrain from absolute statements of any kind - be it in an internet forum about a computer game, or in life in general...

Just my 0.02$ ;)

amitabh

respect Hitler because of his position, not the fact he kills people, in fact just never open a history book not approved by the aryan union, any other books tell the truth and we all know thats the last thing ol' Adolf wants. where was I? oh yeah, respect the dictator :p

About point number 1: If Roosevelt, the man who lead us from the Great Depression to a world superpower in WW2 didn't earn the title of President in Civ4, then there is no way BUSH deserves it either. I myself respect the OFFICE of the presidency, which is why I will never so blindly offer my support to anyone who claims this coveted office. To quote Civ 4, "The term "free speech" describes a legal system in which a person cannot be stopped from saying anything he or she wants, as long as the speech doesn't cause immediate harm to those around him or her - even in the freest society, it is still illegal to shout "Fire!" in a crowded movie theatre. The benefits of free speech are many. The citizens may debate their government's policies and actions fully, without fear of punishment. A free press allows the citizens great access to news and information, allowing them to more accurately judge the events taking place in the world around them. (which is what we are doing. And now for the icing on the cake) Tyrants and despots rightly fear free speech more than almost anything else. On the other hand, free speech may be hate speech; it may be lies. Such speech must be allowed: once a government is allowed to determine which speech is to be allowed and which is to be suppressed, the temptation to abuse that power is overwhelming, and speech isn't free any more."

Have you checked YOUR civics lately? I would regret the coming of the day that any American city celebrates "We love the dictator day."

The reason Bush beat Kerry is because Americans were smart enough to choose the lesser of two evils.

But we won't go there. I try not to get myself involved in a political argument on an Internet forum, because you can't possibly change other people's opinions. The only people I get into political arguments with are my friends over MSN messenger...

EDIT: I think I might try out that mod someday. It looks really cool.

Funny you should say that.

FDR was probably the most despotical figure in America. Not only did he become America's dictator (Running for FOUR terms in office) during the depression, he expanded the size of government exponentially, leading us into great debt that's still with us today. He is a true despot, he even attempted to expand the # of supreme court justices so he could place 3 more justices that would work for him to pass his legislature. As for your whole "free speech" argument, FDR passed several anti-labor laws and made it a crime to speak out against the government during WWII. Kind of ironic that you praise FDR and attack Bush - FDR wouldn't even have let you say that!

Thank God this man died before he could send America down the path of Communism.

lol america and its despots,I like canada because we dont have any leaders with personality let alone dictatorships

My head is spinning...There very well might be some legitimate criticisms one can apply to Roosevelt, but you've managed to miss all of them. You actually are pointing fingers at him re: debt? Holy s***, have you looked at what Bush has done? Let's lower taxes and dramatically increase spending. You're a legend Mr. president...just like Lincoln, people simply don't understand your wisdom right now. This is the kind of garbage he is being fed daily. We have had stupid presidents before...maybe not this stupid but thats not really the point... It's is aggressive stupidity that is dangerous. It's his utter lack of interest in self analysis and critically examining his past decisions. In the 2004 debates, when asked to name a mistake he made during his term, he actually couldn't name one! Which highlights another disturbing fact...unless he is coached to repeat generalized, meaningless, vapid statements he can become totally derailed in public. It's a terrifying glimpse into his mind. His thought process is on display and it is a scary scene. The current combination of power, stupidity, and total absence of self doubt is a dangerous combination.

Uhm, ehr, well no actually :p

I work long shifts and when things are quiet I enjoy spending some time on these forums. So for me, lots of reading and some posting but not much time to play I'm afraid :(

Interesting discussion though ;)

Has anyone got any good screenshots of Second Revolution. Maybe taking D.C. or Vicente Fox Controlling all of USA? Post em if you got em! And if you don't, why not take them?
