How To: Make Leaderheads! Ekmek's Guide

This really sucks! Well, I'll wait for a time when I have enough patience to do it then...

actually I have a bunch of separated leaderparts in my leaderparts collection. Looks like i separated brennus's hair a long time ago. here is the nif

Too late, I already did it myself. Thanks, anyway.

Could you send me your leaderparts collection? I can't decide who's the best candidate for Big Brother's overalls: Augustus, Hannibal, Alexander?

Thanks man, you rock :worship::salute::thanx: Soon I will be a leaderhead maker :assimilate: that is, assuming I don't drown in schoolwork this month :please:

Hello again, ekmek, and since i contacted you in this thread it can only be bad new... so yes, good guess, i have a problem again  My Ra LH, well, he wont move in game, and there is no skin partions or unweighted verticles this time. So i have uploaded the nif and blend as i guess you would have asked for them anyway

I think you assigned a boned object to a boneless one. so you got rid of your skeleton (Scene Root Parent)

texpatriate did the same mistake, click here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=8345550&postcount=622

you just need to add "Scene Root" exactly as you see in that screenshot in the link I provided.

but, when you export you will see that you have "unweighted vertices" you still need to rig.

I'm having problems (strange, huh) on my Jimmu; instead of seeing his face and clothes through transparent parts of his beard, I see background. How do I fix this?

I tried to use Joan of Arc's hair and make it yellow to see what would happen (skinning experiments) and it came out orange in-game, but yellow in the .dds file. What should I do? I'm worried now that if I reskin any other leaderheads, their new colors may look one way in the .dds but completely different in the game (I didn't view the .nif file in NifSkope, in case you're curious) :( I haven't progressed far in my two WiP's because of my schoolwork this semester, so I'll get back to y'all on that

i think you need to add a alpha channel. click on the ninode and attach property. choose alpha channel. or just copy the alpha channel from the leaderhead you got the beard

Yes, it was alpha channel, but I had to adjust it on body and clothes, not on the beard. I adjusted the Threshold value to 1 and the issue got fixed.

Every time I open a person in .nif there is a black box on them and I cant see some of them the move arrows are on that box and they work, and when I try to move the person in edit mode, the box goes away, but I can't move them anymore. and the polygons never show up on pg. 9

:(Please, somebody help!
When I try to export a file to nif from blender, It say :"Cannot export with unweighted meshes. Unweighted meshes are selected, so they are easy to indentify.":(

I am following the guide, but it isn't good again!
What's the problem?

Ekmek, can you help?
Somebody can help?:thanx:

Tried it, and I'm having the same issues.

I don't think I explained the problem well enough. Here's the leaderhead in NifSkope

It's the original Zara Yaqob with an adapted object nifswapped for the original object (I'm adding a suit later). Now here's how it looks in the game.

See what I mean?

I'm having this problem, too. I just get the teeth, eyes, and some hair. I don't have a screenshot to upload (I'm on a school computer right now :mischief:) I checked the scene root and all appears normal, plus I followed the guide to the letter. On that note...I haven't been able to import FDR's .nif file into Blender, but I sometimes have that problem where it decides I'm not importing a .nif file, even if I am  (Mugabe wears a suit, not like De Gaulle, right?)

chck your export settings you migt have skin partitions set. but also this is in the trouble shooting section.

I just went to the trouble to read every post i this thread and it did me a world of good in two ways: 1) I got my confidence restored by seeing that even the "greats" started off average joes like me, 2) a heap of the problems I have been having comprehending all of the extraneous functions in Blender gelled a bit on my dead, cold brains.

* begin small professional rant*

I worked for 34 years in programming and designing GUIs and my professional opinion is that Blender's UI has all the merits of a thing designed by committee, which is to say it is the most ass-backwards, over-thought, over-worked, non-intuitive, mind-boggling heap of bad design I have seen in my life. It was obviously inspired by the mind-numbing interface of 3D Studio Max and AutoCAD, which last time I looked really did require a college degree in CAD to use to any major purpose... but not as bad as early versions of Poser...

* end old man grousing *

If I understand all I have read here, then Blender is not in fact a mesh editing software but a sort of "mixing bowl" where one brings together diverse parts and fine tunes the render environment? Am I getting this right?

Keep in mind, I am the proverbial old dog trying hard to learn new tricks, so be a bit gentle with my calcium depleted skull bones.
