In the next century, I think. Face it, there's too much facing us.
1. Oil Crash, by most experts due to come around in the next few decades. Sure, work on alternatives is being done, but I don't believe that it will be enough to completely stopper any economic disaster.
2. Yellowstone Supervolcano. Imagine the entire midwest, southwest, and Rockies states. Imagine all of those covered with ash. Enough said.
3. La Palma. Never heard of it? You should have. In a couple dozen years, this islands due to split in half, with one of its massive chunks falling into the sea and starting the mother of all tidal waves. Bye bye, East Coast.
4. Hydroxyl Collapse. OK, so I just ripped this off Exit Mundi. But there is good evidence to suggest that smog and soot from our factories will suddenly be a lot worse... See the site for details, since I'm very lazy today.
5. Global Warming. I know half of the people here don't believe it. But it's liable to come, and come pretty darn fast. And when it does, well, I won't be placing any bets on coastal real estate.
6. Ice Age. OK, a little more theoretical here, but the current trend of global warming happens to be an almost perfect jump start to an Ice Age, if things play out right.
7. Declining resources in general. At this point, we import most of our oil. That's rather minor. But stuff like metal ore, food, etc, that's just going to screw over the economy.
I could go on and on, but time is short and I believe I made my point.
