After installing GOTM 31* I experienced many problems such as missing leaderheads and icons being mixed up. (oil being dyes or visa-versa)

It's the same in GOTM 32 and in normal Civ3 (Vanilla). I cannot get any game to work properly.

I cannot say which pediaicons.txt I have because nobody ever edits the comments section... but it's 79Kb and not the original. I think it's the one AlanH linked to for correcting GOTM 31, but it says modified: 01 February 2003, 18:58:17 :hmm:

Please advise.

* My first GOTM, so I had lots of other updates to install.

Your patching vanilla civ to add PTW civs/resources, right?

Sounds like you may need to redo the support files. That may be possible w/o a reinstall, but a reinstall would be safer.

My suggestion would be to restart and add changes slowly so you can verify each step.

Edit: More discussion here.

Can you let me know which version you want to play the game in (PTW or CIV), and I'll give you instructions. I presume it is Civ, because the PTW version is playable with zero installs this month, but please confirm. :)

I am also experiencing the resource icon problem. I am playing Vanilla Civ on a Mac. I have tried swapping out all the copies of the two resource icons files and still get oil instead of dyes and other problems. Could you advise Ainwood? Thanks a bunch.

Are you getting them on the 'main' map, or on the city view (for luxuries) In the city-view, it is just a graphics error that has little effect on game play.

You need to ensure that you are using the 'normal' resources.pcx file. If you look in your civ3 directory tree for a file called "resource swapping.txt" (or something like that), it will give you the info. :)

I get the oil icon (instead of dyes listed on the terrain info) on both the main map and city map.

I guess where I am confused is which resource.pcx should I be using with a Mac. Is it GOTM 21? Is it the resouce files that are part of my original Mac files? I thought one of these earlier GOTM installs made us PTW compatible, is this what we are wanting? I have tried all the various resource files in all of the upgrades, still to no avail. If I knew which one specifically I should use, maybe I can try down loading a fresh copy. Do we have to change the pediaicons.txt file as well? I have not changed anything except the two resources files.

Sorry this is so haphazard. Any ideas? Thanks.

Cheers,

Thanks Ainwood. I think I might have screwed up my original files when I was first figuring out how to install all the GOTM files. I probably need to reinstall and load all the files up again. I understand it now so it shouldn't be any big deal. I will let you know if I still have problems. Thanks.

I advise you to get this sorted out as soon as possible. Once Portugal knocks England out you will have more free time and you'll regret not having done it. :smug:
What kind of Englishman are you? :dubious:

If England get knocked out by Portugal, there's raids on Portugese shipping, followed by the sacking of Erikson, and then the sacking Lisbon, and finally the rants in OT about all of the above. Better for everyone if England stays in, imho.

I'm playing Civ3 Vanilla (Win). Did I miss new updates for GOTM32?

Same here, except it's Windows and not Mac.

Ainwood, the prediaicon.txt for GOTM28 didn't help.

I put a fresh copy of my resources.pcx and the resource_shadows.pcx from my game disk in place and it works just fine now. Eventhough you are using windows, as Ainwood has been saying, it is probably that you are using modified resources files?

I posted a copy of the original resources in this thread several days ago.

The perfidious Scottish variety :p
Oh ok

Perfidious or not, I'm supporting Sweden (dunno what happens when they meet England). I've a soft spot for all teams of Scandinavia and the British Isles. It doesn't need to make sense.

Thanks AlanH
