So I've been plagued with insomnia from my over energizing meds. However normally if I skip a dose, I pass right out into great sleep.

Except that is no longer happening . 3-4 nights with very little sleep followed up with appointments, even still after skipping a day.

I also have a new found fear of sleep because I don't want to miss my appointments / future work days due to sleeping in (alarms are useless with such hearing loss that I have). And when I do eventually fall asleep, its usually too deep to be interrupted.

In before fight club hallucinations begin happening. Oh and I still have a box full of previous hypnotics (Trazadone) but they previously used to knock me out for around 15 hours, which isn't ideal if I have to be awake in 8-10 hours.

I might ask to try Mirtazapine which is also a similar hypnotic, but only if its shorter acting, otherwise something with around 50% the half life of trazadone.

Get off the drugs, they'll do more harm than good :(

pot wont put you to sleep? :)

there's gotta be some treatment people came up with long ago to induce sleep, one that aint so harsh on the system.

course the drugs you're on might be based on those treatments ;)

Well its only because of the current meds I'm finally able to do stuff so I'm not coming off them.

Mirtazapine is absorbed and works immediately, but the half life is 20-40 hours.

But 150 mg venlafaxine & 15 mg mirtazapine is a very common combination, and also has a slang name - 'Californian Rocket Fuel'.

Yes please. I want rocket fuel in my brain plus sleep again.

Looks ultra nommy nom nom , plz gibe!

GP appointment on the 24th.

I don't mean to rain on your venting by any means, but isn't this better suited for Random Rants? It doesn't seem like there's an actual point to this thread.

Mirtazapine will make you sleep. And it's better quality sleep than benzos. And if you don't sleep you'll go crazy and noone wants that.

You should understand the dual action nature of mirtazapine, the lower dose hits the histamine receptors and causes drowsiness (It's like benedryl but the sedative effect wears off very slowly, unlike benedryl which will get you sleep 5 days in a row tops), but that effect doesn't increase much as the dosage ramps up so you get the antidepressant effects moreso. And because it works on norepinephrine that counters the sedating effect a bit (that's why you don't sleep on the venlafaxine).

You probably don't need 15mg to sleep and it can make you fuzzy, I'd start off with 7.5mg (it's what I do) but whatever. I'm no doctor, I just play one in real life (seriously, take these as mere considerations that you'd want to bring to your GP, I am utterly unqualified for this and more importantly don't want another jerk after my money).

You gotta be careful with the waistline because weight gain is super common.

150mg of venlafaxine is a moderately high dose. So the combined effects may be potent. I'd move it to the morning if you haven't already otherwise your sleep might be weird.

And remember meds only help the mood, you gotta stay schedule. Eating, hydrating, taking time for yourself, and taking care of life business.

Super key. The drugs are designed to reinforce the numerous other habits required for health and wellness.

Venlafaxine 150 mg is the normal dose for that. 75 mg is the starter dose which affects seratonin only, then at 150+ mg it hits the norepinephrine for super brain powers. But the super powers just wont deplete :(

I've got 4 days in a row appointments with 1 hour sleep between them so far. I will have to take a super knockout trazadone after the one today and sleep glorious sleep until the one on Friday.

7.5 mg would also be fine, I thought 15 mg was the minimum, but I just remembered reading that they split in half.

Its around 5-6 am now, need to have a banana, venlafaxine and coke to get me through my college appointment at 11 am, then I'm really hungry so yummy fish n chips with curry sauce again! Then sweet super effective trazadone knockout.

Only having a banana to save space for fish n chips.

Read a boring book. Listen to mood music. Or listen to a recording of Arthur C. Clarke reading his own stories. I was usually out well before he got to the end of "The Nine Billion Names of God" - not a bad story for its time, but he had an incredibly dry, monotone reading voice.

If you are a shift worker cant help you, as shift works play havoc with sleeping regular times and often my friend is short on sleep.

No eating after 6:00pm
No caffeine after 5:00pm
Try sleeping on your side instead of back
Make sure to arrange pillow and bed before sleeping
You can try sleeping aids such as nose openers, head support clothing and nasal spray

You body can function without sleep for a while, provided you catch up on sleep later on but dont go more then 2 days without sleep, 4 days is permanent damage time to your body and brain
Also look at eating more fiber, a diet of coke, fish & chips will mess with your body after a few weeks.

I am surprise you don't have constipation ! :mischief:

Believe me I've tried it all. Cannot sleep with these meds and the added anxiety of needing to be at my appointments.

And before the job and education searching, Id only have to sleep a few hours a day.

Why dont you get one of those alarm vibrator things.

Take lower dosage of sleeping pill, I avoid them as they make me groggy for hours after waking up, and I dont like the idea of becoming dependent on pills to sleep. (addiction) Last time I took a sleeping pill was when I had a cold, cough and blocked nose. Couldnt sleep for 2 days and sleeping pill was a God send. Taking all these medications with possible side effects isnt a good long term solution.
