Ideas for C2C

Interesting info there Noriad! I like it... though we do need to eventually get the electricity property project underway at some point. Might make such an addition more meaningful at that point.

"Rare earth elements" aren't actually rare. They are very common in fact. It is just that we only need one mine world wide to provide all we need for production. The rarity is more that the current owners of that one mine want to use the monopoly and it is very expensive to build a new mine when if you do you will be undercut by the existing mine. ;) IE the rarity is political not economic or physical.

I would suggest a Great Wonder "Rare Earth Mine" available early in the electronic era or earlier that gives 10 "Rare Earth Elements". Then later on have a National Wonder which costs a lot and only provides one of the resource.

rare earth elements are as rare as tin or lead, and we have tin ores and lead ores in the game. So no reason not to put it on the map, especially if you are going to burn a lot of Thorium in reactors. While tin and lead, and especially iron, aren't exactly rare either, they are still map resources as you can't find them everywhere in the world.

There are not enough plots on the map to add new map resources. This is why Manganese is an ocean resource. This is why many resources come from the mine buildings.

Then perhaps it is time to take a more critical look at current map resources. Lemons aren't exactly staple food and there are no cultures connected to it. And I'm not too sure about mangoes. Parrots only have 1 culture connected to them (Tupi) and can perhaps be turned into subduable animals (if they aren't already).

This opens up the map for other resources. Phosphate for example is an essential ingredient for artificial fertilizer, and phosphate mines around the world are running low (most of the world's supply come from Morocco-occupied Western Sahara). Some say that if Phosphate mines run out, earth's farming can only sustain about 2 billion people.

This article discusses the subject:
http://e360.yale.edu/feature/phosphate_a_critical_resource_misused_and_now_running_out/2423/

quote from http://blogs.ei.columbia.edu/2013/04/01/phosphorus-essential-to-life-are-we-running-out/

"Ninety percent of the phosphate rock reserves are located in just five countries: Morocco, China, South Africa, Jordan and the United States. The U.S., which has 25 years of phosphate rock reserves left, imports a substantial amount of phosphate rock from Morocco, which controls up to 85 percent of the remaining phosphate rock reserves. "

Linking the increased food production from farming in the later game to the availability of a small number of Phosphate mines, would give Phosphate mines much strategic value. If Morocco and the other 4 countries would stop selling Phosphorus, the world could face mass starvation in a few years.

Lemons are a place holder for the citrus family. We did have Oranges, Limes etc. in game but reduced them down. I want to change them back to citrons and then have the ability for your nation to "upgrade" them to a unique trade fruit. Ie all your citron bonuses would become oranges if you build Orange Domestication.

We have a poultry bonus on the map. It currently provides poultry - no reason it should not open a Phosphate Mine building to provide Phosphate as well. Lets face it whole islands (eg Nauru) in the South Pacific have been almost removed in mining the phosphate (ancient bird droppings) there.

Poultry bonus can be placed by great farmer. So not really strategic.

Like the idea but I would remove most of these benefits and make it a requirement for some of the housing eg

  • all elite housing in Middle ages and onwards
  • Highest level of middle class housing from the Renaissance onwards
  • all middle class housing from Industralisation onwards

Is it possible to have plots contain more then one resource?

One thing that makes rare earth elements expensive as well is that they are extremely difficult (and expensive) to seperate, due their similar physical and chemical properties.

The moon as well has a deep down "layer" of a higher concentration of rare earth metals. And while the overall concentration on the moon is higher than earth's, there are no concentrated ore deposits. But with nano mining this could be an option. This would be a nice late game supplier in addition to your great wonder and national wonder. So are asteroids.

Also, I think map resources could and should be reviewed at some point. Do we still have salt as a map resource?
And I once played a game with no starting map resources at all. Over time, it was still very playable as you spawned more and more resources due to mines, farms or subduing animals.

Ok, but +1% with Gold Ore, Rubies, Silver Ore, Dye and Jewellery

Because https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throne
Thrones (luxury furniture) = gold + rubies + silver + dye + jewellery + God knows what :king:

There is already Atompunk with a special set of reactors. Perhaps the Thorium reactor is what is meant by that?

etc. etc. ...

What resources and or buildings would be needed in the city to build these?

edit I made them so that only one could be built in any single city.

Las Medulas requires Water Pipes and should get benefit if it has them so I ignored that. I made it require hills in the city vicinity and could not figure out how to give it benefit from other buildings in the city.

Luxury Furniture Workshop will require Elite Housing.
