For those wondering, I was inspired to try by gwennog's recent work on the matter.

Also, check out those beats :

Doesn't the Imperial Guard come a bit early? Napoleonic wars is Line Infantry <--> Fusiliers in VP, no?
Normally, the Imperial Guard would have been perfect as a late Enlightenment Era unit. But we have a Renaissance Era that takes 400 years of fast warfare advancement and crushes it into one tier of unit. We go from early pike and shot to the rifles of the US Civil War in two tech tiers, and with a jump of 10 CS. There is no way to be precise here. At least, the idea of a "French pretorian guard" can hold as a unique elite version of Pike-and-Shot.

The policy locks on the UNWs seems excessive, you're already limited to building just one of them
both UUs being limited and buffing nearby units is also excessive, and a bit redundant even if they're different domains

does the NW part of Grandeur apply to all NWs, or just ones with a building requirement, like... that one tradition policy
if it's the former, getting +2 production from the palace at the start would be really strong (the palace is still a national wonder in VP, right?)

That's an interesting thing to think about yeah. My idea was to go the same route as what America does but instead for midgame policy trees, but indeed nothing stops us from breaking out of that model and going the Venice route.

They are meant to act as equivalents on differents domains : both are elite, highly resilient core units meant to anchor your army. The limited number allows us to play with that design without making the civ automatically op. Their limited availability (only two tech tiers before becoming obsolete) is compensated by the fact that their whole power is kept upon upgrading (that's also the only way to avoid exploits).

It's for all "true" national wonders, so not the Palace or the Tradition or Reformation buildings.

When the UA refers to 'Artillery', I assume you mean Siege units? Siege is the unit class, Artillery is a single unit type.

Nice evolution of your Napoleon France tweaks. I played that one recently. Tried to go tradition and build wonders, then conquer those wonders I was not able to build.
I feel that the grand strategy of mixing tradition with conquest is not the stringest combo, but I would still like to try Louis. The UUs look nice. The tradition stuff looks a bit weak, but I should test it first.

On the other hand, you could go full tradition/culture victory or full domination victory with the kit, depending on your start.

Grandeur seems a bit of a lackluster name, for a UA. Why not something like "Sun King" or my personal favorite "Le Grand Siècle". Sun King is a good UA Name, but it feels overused (aka nearly half the Louis XIV mods across multiple Civ Games uses it). Le Grand Siècle, or the Great Century, feels much more novel. It was a period of time referring to the reigns of Louis XIV and his father Louis XIII. It basically encapsulates the UA in it's entirety. Building Wonders, Building up the French Military, centralizing power, all of these things were started by Louis XIII and finished by his son, Louis XIV.

Other than the my proposed UA Name change I don't really have any other feedback. I'm not really sure I have any concrete feedback.

Actually, wait, I thought of something, but I'm gonna separate it into a second post since I am a bit confused and I'd like to put the questions in a separate comment.

I think : "The state, that is me"(Or I am the state) or "L'État, c'est moi" in French is better, i think for a lot of people this phrase is the only reason they know about Louis 14.But to each their own.

+2 :c5production: Production and :tourism: Tourism and +1 Great General / Great Admiral points from World and National Wonders. +2 :c5food: Food from :greatwork: Great Works and :c5greatperson: Great Person Tile Improvements. Mounted Melee, Armored and Artillery Units gain Experience faster and have no upgrade cost.

The / Between Great Generals and Great Admirals confuses me a bit, but does it mean that World Wonders and National Wonders generate both Great General and Great Admiral Points?

If I'm not mistaken, both World Wonders and National Wonders give +2 Production and Tourism, right?

The no upgrade cost for Mounted Melee, Armor, and Artillery Units only negates the gold cost, right?

If I am understanding correctly, might I then suggest to replace the UA with:

Constructed Wonders provide +2 :c5production: Production and :tourism: Tourism and generate +1 Great General and Great Admiral Points. +2 :c5food: Food from Great Works and :c5greatperson: Great Person Tile Improvements. Mounted Melee, Armor, and Artillery Units gain Experience (how much percent?) faster and cost no gold to upgrade.

It just reads better imo.

Though since I am suggesting changes, might I also recommend that the Food on Great Work and Great People Tile Improvements be granted per Wonder built in a City rather than just as a flat bonus? I feel like that would help tie the UA together a bit more (you'd want more GPTIs and GWs in cities with wonders) and it just feels like it would be much more fun to play with. It would scale better, but I like the idea of very large France. Since the 1500s, France has always been one of the nations with the largest populations, despite it's rather small size.

The modified UA I proposed above would read like so:

Constructed Wonders provide +2 :c5production: Production and Tourism and generate +1 Great General and Great Admiral Points. :greatwork: Great Works and :c5greatperson: Great Person Tile Improvements provide +1 :c5food: Food per Local Wonder. Mounted Melee, Armor, and Artillery Units gain Experience (how much percent?) faster and cost no gold to upgrade.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and if these don't end up being added to the design, I still had fun writing it out and ultimately, that's what matters most.

P.S. - The above sentence has way too many commas, but I'm leaving them and this post script note because I think it's funny)

In English I don't know, I'm very bad but in French it's quite customary and it goes very well. So, not bad for a comment on France .

I mean, it is an apocryphal late 18th century quote that has taken a life of its own, so... no. But thanks for the suggestion.

Amongst the many things said by Louis XIV Bourbon that we're sure of, only one gets close to the famous "L'Etat c'est moi" quote, and it says the opposite. Indeed, we know that on his deathbed, he said : "Je m'en vais, mais l'Etat demeurera toujours." (I am leaving, but the State will always remain.")

Pop history is fun, but one's must always be prudent.

In this case, "Grandeur" as the UA title is less about the individual or the historical era he comes from, and more about the gameplay theme : it combines a French word that has its own positive and negative connotations, and a kit that is about grabbing wonders, creating great works and making two unit lines the best possible. This, plus having unique units that are "elite guard" versions of their base forms with leadership-like auras. It covers both the good and the bad (brittleness of the kit, putting a target on one's back in term of gameplay and in term of diplomatic penalties).

What you suggest would require lua, so sorry but it won't be possible. My version of the kit has the merit of being quite easy to code. I just need some time and energy to do so.

I'll simply rewrite it like this for precision's sake :

UA - Grandeur

+2 :c5production: Production and :tourism: Tourism and +1 Great General and Great Admiral points from World and National Wonders. +2 :c5food: Food from :greatwork: Great Works and :c5greatperson: Great Person Tile Improvements. Mounted Melee, Armored and Artillery Units gain Experience 50% faster and have no upgrade :c5gold: Gold cost.
