...in the interests of usability and server space, which of the above would you rather have?

Their demads do not usually conflict. Upload file is mostly a demand of disk space, while search loads the processor.

Upload file. I never even use the search...

It would be quite a nuisance in SG's if you couldn't submit saves bigger than 100kb...

Upload file for sure! I've lived without search almost the entire time I've been here and I'm used to it. Without upload file, how could I make people x-mas avatars or post in an SG when the file size is enormous! :p

This is kind of a nonsensical question. :crazyeye:

Like Lefty said, there is normally no relationship between the two. If there is space on the File Server (which is NOT the same machine as the forums server ;) ), then we will have upload capability. If the server load is stable, we will have search capability. What happens to one doesn't normally affect the other....

Ahhhhh, OK. I was wondering about this, since TF has stated that he plans to remove the upload function when VB 3.0 comes out.

I rather keep the Uploads

This is the stupidest poll ever.
Such useless and irritating posts are best keep where the sun don't shine, Lefty.

I haven't seen anything about Vb3, but if that's the plan I would guess that in the next release attachments will be seperated from the database and stored as files, like the Invision board already does. Then you probably wouldn't need seperate uploads anyway.

Or the other reason could be that there is no uploads hack for Vb3 yet. ;)

Thread closed. The question really doesn't make sense. :p

As Crazy Eddie mentioned, the main vB 3.0 feature I look forward to is the ability to separate file attachments from the database. This will reduce the forum database size by more than 2 GB (and should improve forum performance).
