If the pressure to release his tax statements gets so it will make a chance of winning remote and Romney still does not want to release his financial details so pulls out of the contest what happens ?
If a VP running mate has been named does he take over as candidate ? or does the GOP start all over again in finding a candidate ?

Romney or no Romney, we'll be seeing four more years of Barrack.

Not unless the economy somehow turns upwards in the next couple of months. If it keeps getting worse the message could get to be 'anyone but Barack' by the time November rolls around.

While one shouldn't read to far into a singular poll, a recent poll (I think it was Gallup or Pew) had Obama beating Romney by 4% as the candidate best suited to handle the economy.

And that is what we in countries with Westminster governments find amusing, a US president has far less power than a PM when it comes to domestic matters yet he is blamed, why is that?

Wanna make a bet? :mischief:

If Romney pulls out, there is still a small chance that he will become a baby daddy.

Remember folks, be safe.

The only thing that could take Romney out now, short of a critical health problem, is an extreme personal scandal. Gay sex or something like that. Short of something really outrageous, Romney will be the candidate in November.

Would it be fair to say that if Romney pulls out that would leave Santorum?

Santorum reminds me of Colbert, with the main difference being one of them is trying to be funny, the other is for real.

Anyway I highly doubt Romney would pull out. He probably can't beat Obama, but he's still the Republican nominee. McCain didn't pull it out either, did he?

If Bush can get re-elected then anything can happen.
Unpopular encumbent president vs very rich and uncharismatic opponent.

I don't think so - he hasn't been campaigning for months. Even if the Republican Party tried to get him to come back, there's no guarantee he would.

I think at this point, the only remaining clear option for the Republicans would be Ron Paul 2012.

...eewww...

If Romney were to refuse the nomination, it would be an open convention, anyone could be nominated. However, I don't think that's likely--this is the sort of thing attack ads are made of, not resignations.

Now, if he were banging a couple campaign aides on the side, that would be a different story.

Three months, now. Santorum suspended his campaign on April 10th, that's more than 3 months ago. In election terms, that's a long time.

First of all, if you are going to allege such things, perhaps a link/proof is in order. Secondly, it wasnt Gallup since they give the edge to Romney. http://www.gallup.com/poll/154598/voters-give-romney-slight-edge-obama-economy.aspx

Wasnt CBS news poll either. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_...residential-race/?tag=contentMain;contentBody

Out of all the major pollling sites Pew is the only one showin Obama in the lead on the economy. Wonder why they have the outlier on this.
