Portugal sends the warmest of greetings to His Eminence. We come to inquire about happenings which were relayed to us that fell ill upon our ears, and to ask for reassurance that this is not so. We wish for enlightenment on this idea of a "Catholic League" which does not comprise the majority of Catholic nations, nor have a specific intent in mind. Surely our Father is not attempting to forge an alliance for Spain over the concerns of all our Catholic brothers? We are of the opinion that while cooperation between the brothers of Our faith is highly important, the creation of a league of this nature is damaging to our relationship with the Church.

Peace, my child. The Holy See agreed to join Spain in the Catholic League as a means to protect the interests of all Catholics and the spiritual welfare of the entire world, not just those in the organization. We joined because Spain proposed the organization and it is only natural for His Holiness the Pope to oversee a "Catholic League". Fear not, we do not intend to use this group for political ends and we will discourage other members from doing so as well.

We are not going to attempt to enforce Catholicism upon other lands. We just hope that you will give up your heretic ways and return to the rule of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic and Roman Church, for Catholicism is the only way to heaven.

As for a Mutual Protection Pact against other nations, I fear that it must first be consulted with the other members of the League. We are doubtful that such a pact would work, since it is unlikely that any Catholic nation would put itself in danger just because a heretic nation asked them to. The only thing that would probably work in this instance is a Non-Agression Pact.

We do not think that any pact that is solely against Prussia is very sensible on anyone's part. It suggests that you want war with Prussia, and we certainly do not.

On the other hand, we hold no objections to Mutual Protection Pacts, where they are appropriate, with Protestant nations. If a Protestant nation is willing to act in such a way that is to the benefit of the Catholic League, we see no reason not to help it in return.

Our main concern is with Prussia. Although I certainly hope a MPP also counts as a NAP. Prussia has an passive yet agressive stance to the German nations, and we are in support of all nations against its stance until it announces that it will stop focusing on unification. (from history)

OOC: Charles this is an ATL, if by "from history" you mean that OTL Prussia focused on unifying Germany then you are correct, however this is not OTL. The circumstances are significantly different. Now I have made no statements, hints, or implications as to a unified Germany so if you are using the OTL context to justify your current diplomatic actions then I'd say you are metagaming and you should considering stoping. Officially and unofficially Prussia hasn't made any threats towards Frankfurt, or any German nation (or any nation for that matter).

Prussia's so called "invasion" was simply an attempt to protect oppressed Germans who currently reside within Poland. Your accusation that Prussia attempt to extend its territory solely for personal gain then you are sorely mistaken.
