Imperial Trash.

I'd prefer Space - but that's because I find it easier.

If the verdict is Domination or other, it's fine with me.

Apostolic Palace win from an isolated start could be interesting, but I guess defeats the point of the exercise!

^^Not sure about the AP win... with the 3.13 changes to diplo wins, it may be thouger than it looks.... Not tried yet

It looks that we are at a draw in the moment about Space/Dom.....

Waiting to hear from stuge but it seems that people are split over victory.

We'll keep existing teams for now. Play next round up to 1ad. Review teams after next round.

I'm awaiting one vote to announce winner for round one.

It is 6-4 in favour of Space.

I recently started another Emperor game and by freak luck it is also an isolated game. What are the odds. In that game I am trying Domination, and have just developed steel and Astronomy. Based on the outcome I might change my mind to race for Space.

I did notice, that when I met my opponnents I was outteching them, easily got liberalism first. But they had picked up the tech pace. Gandhi was doing industrial age techs at great speed. When I met up with Toku I noticed he spent most of his time building units. Not sure how strong he is but seems to have a horde of units. Will be quite a challenge even without taking maintenance into account.

I'd go for space, mostly because I hate the logistics involved with massive overseas invasions.

I'm with Oz there - the games will be very similar at least up to astronomy - which is likely to be a very important tech for both conditions.

wrt Domination, another factor is going to be what the rest of the world looks like - if it's lots of islands then it'll be easier.

about domination on emperor needing another continent, I have tried one with ethiopia (seemed quite fun to be imperialistic Ethiopia ).
I had to switch to diplomation (3 vassals help a lot ;)) because I was in the red at 0% with cottage spam all over the place (and no WW = no culture slider). Still a domination-like victory but not quite the real thing.

The votes are in for Team A.

Its Official: TriviAl has played the Best Game of the round.

Yes, play from your own save or TriviAl's. Play to 1ad. Post by Monday.

Aw, that's nice.

I hope none of you like criticizing MM issues - because there's sure to be a good few in there. :)

I will be posting my game late on Monday as that's when I get back to my civ pc. I played my set but I didn't have time to upload  I hope that's ok.

Congrats on a great set Trivial :goodjob:

Spoiler :
Plan for this round was to fail, fail to build wonders. The reasoning behind that was because I wanted cash for deficit research. The problems I see with isolation are that you can't trade techs, you don't get discounts for others knowing the techs and you can't get money from obsolete tech sales which is what usually fuels deficit research so with that in mind...

I started Stonehenge in Persepolis. Completed. Kind of wanted this anyway.
Started GW in Susa I think can’t remember how much I got back, log doesn’t show anything (too many after work drinks yesterday :crazyeye: )
Next I started towards the oracle through Poly.
Oracle started in Persepolis. Result Metal Casting :goodjob:
Then started the Pyramids in Persepolis, result Completed
Ok not going so good right now for failed wonders.
Next on the cards is Colossuse, 6 turns away from forge in my designated city. I’ll actually be happier if I complete it as my science rate could use a boost.
I haven’t even got fishing yet so can’t work any coastal tiles
I also got to Code of laws first and nabbed Confucianism. Plan to Build Chichen Itza to near completion in as many cities as I can until some lucky AI finally builds it.

The other events of the rest of the turns were pretty average:
Had minor barb problems, they’ve settled down now which could mean they have a city somewhere as there’s still quite a lot of unrevealed tiles. Good in a way as I want to farm them a bit to unlock Heroic epic.
Gordium is slated to be my GP farm.
Tarsus is going to remain largely unimproved hoping for forest spread for eventual National Park (no roads on tiles even). In the future it’s going to get a lighthouse and just build units for MP duties and maybe a few workers.
Ecbatana is going to build Colossus, then Moai statues. Would be nice to do it the other way around but too risky.
Susa will need a libray next I think.
I have a settle near the horses to settle next turn.
Next city will be up near the gems, haven’t decided on placement yet.

General thoughts:
Must be no Industrious civs or spiritual civs out there, getting the Oracle so late was quite a surpise.
I think a workboat to scout the coast a bit better for possible coast or culture bridges. Need fishing first.

Empire breakdown
Expenses 27
Research 68 @ 100% -23 gpt
Shrine income 4 gpt
Units:
1 settler
5 workers
1 archer
3 warriors
4 axemen

6 cities + 1 settled next turn
26 pop

Wonders :
Stonehenge
Oracle
Pyramids
Kong Miao

Planned wonders:
Colossus
GL
Apostolic Palace

Civics
HR
OR
Slavery

GPs planned
Great Prophet for a Theology bulb and a leg up on the AP, even if it’s a GE it’s good I’ll use that to build the AP.

My plans for the moment are to try and get the AP for the hammer boost.
Current research is on Currency but I wish I had started towards Literature a bit sooner.
Beaker count is a bit low, should improve with the completion of currency.
Really want to get the gems on line but that means a diversion to Iron working which I’m not planning on doing just yet.
Popping archery from a hut in 175BC was awesome, surely something better could have been chosen.

Spoiler :

My first goal for this turnset is to remember to stop at 1AD :mischief:

Other than that, I'd like to found Confucianism, build the Pyramids and be researching merrily along towards Optics.

Let's see how that goes then...

Get confused, get Pyramids,

Found 2 more cities. Ecbatana a production city.

Tarsus a science city.

I'm currently going for Hanging Gardens in Persepolis and will whip some of those courthouses soon. Pasargadae will get Maoi statues.

I need a couple more workers.

Science wise after Civil Service, I think Currency and then Machinery, Compass and Optics. First GP is in 10 turns and will be a scientist. Academy in capital. Hopefully second will follow soon after and be an Engineer.

The stuff you need to know.

Spoiler :

Sciences

Meditation (1320BC) > Priesthood (1200BC) > Masonry (1040BC) > Code of Laws (950BC) > Polytheism (875BC) > Monotheism (750BC) > Mathematics (475BC) > Aesthetics (175BC) > Literature (25BC) > Iron Working (unfinished)
Sciencewise, it was a fairly simple set - I went for the Oracle first. Then for Monotheism to make a switch to organised religion with Confucianism. After that, I dabbled a little - went for Lit to open up the Great Library, then Iron Working as a placeholder - only 1 turn in/3-4 left, so it won't impose too far into the next set. I'd be very tempted to head for Civil Service after that - the capital makes it all worthwhile.

Excitement!

I can see a neighbour!

Neighbours-525BC.JPG

After finding little else, have parked the workboat up there in case the borders expand.

War

Here's the first incursion of barbs:

Killer_Barbs_-_1000BC.JPG

Caught me slightly unprepared, only had the defending axe here - forced to move one up from Persepolis - was no danger of losing the city, but lost some roads.

After that, I farmed the barbs - hoping to get a XP 10 axe for the Heroic Epic. Got one at 9, but the last point is elusive!

Infrastructure

My overall plan is to make Persepolis a hammers and commerce powerhouse - setup for civil service. All other cities will be high food to support whipped infrastructure and then switch to representative specialists.

I built 2 wonders this turnset - the Oracle in 950BC and the Pyramids in 300BC - both in Persepolis. I chopped to assist in both cases.

One turn away from a great person in Persepolis - either a prophet for the shrine or an engineer to rush the GL.

Founded 2 new cities over the turn. Can't fully afford the 2nd, but courthouses online soon if I don't get the shrine. Either will solve the problem.

Switched governments to Representation and Organised Religion.

Built the library, temple and grannary in Persepolis, Parsagadae and Susa. The latter 2 receiving a very hefty dose of the whip to hurry things along. Also whipped out a settler and built one in Persepolis.

Parsagadae was used as an 'incubator' for the 2 FP cottages - now handed to Persepolis to help it grow.

Parsagadae and Susa are now mostly Infra'd up - courthouses to go, but currently they are both sporting a pair of scientists.

Future Plans

Here is the world as of now:

The_Plan_-_1AD.JPG

I'd like to see where the iron is before 100% deciding.

City 1: on the horses - gives access to 2 deers and a crab - ideal for the representative whippings!

City 2: is a halfway decent production site. 3 Hills, Sheep and Fish. Possibly the Maoi to beef it up.

City 3: Capture that barb city. Currently it's 3 archers on a hill, so need a decent force to dislodge them.

Noticed I missed a GH in the SE corner - so definitely grab that.

Summary

-Total population (#pop heads in your cities): 23
-Number of cities: 5
-Wonders built/planned: Oracle, Pyramids built - planning Hanging Gardens, Great Library (possibly).
-Units: Worker(4), Scout(1), Axemen(5), Warrior(2), Work Boat(1)
-Income: 63 Science and 18 gold at 60% science. Treasury of 10.

-Civics: Slavery, Representation, Organised Religion.
-Diplomatic status (OB, War, etc): NA
-Religion: Confucianism (4 cities).
-Great people (planned, used): Prophet(75%) or Engineer(25%) in 1 turn - Either rush GL or build a shrine. Must get 1 prophet for shrine. After that scientists for accademy, settling and bulbing.

-Short/Medium term plans: Courthouses. More cities. Whip infrastructure. Run specialists. Switch to Caste System when the infra is all whipped.

And the Save.

After thinking for a while ( and after deciding to keep my using my game ATM ), I decided to give a shot on the Oracle to try to get CoL. For that I needed I tech:
