Imperial Trash.

If no one else is willing to move, I'm ready to do so. Not sure my game gives the other team any reason to want me to .

A few random thoughts on the games here :

first on mine :
I went into
- no wonder mode (pretty usual for me). Even with the stone nearby, when I saw stonehenge built so early I thought I stood no chance and simply let it be.
- cottage spamming (we're financial)
- running for currency>CoL (pretty usual for me again).
Since I plan to rely on HR for happiness, I wanted the immortals badly. Thus, I went for the horses. Bad luck on the improvements (cow eating insects, like a few others if I read well) made me use the workers turns differently + distance made barbs a threat on the road there, so I built the axe early (I killed an archer already with the guy). I'm, as usual, a bit low on workers.

r_rolo1 is my favourite for one simple reason : the great wall! This is huge when isolated. I don't care about stonehenge, but the great wall is really important. His 2 cities aren't that great yet except this (mine aren't better, no offense).

Shyhue:
low reasearch for now, will change soon I guess after wonder building period is over. I don't like the fact that your capital is only size 3 (cannot whip a real unit fast). You have all it takes to fogbust correctly, so I guess it's OK. I think you're researching polytheism on the way to monarchy for HR.
You don't seem to want the pyramids for the same civic :crazyeye:. Other than that, you're in the same boat as I am (cottages already there ;))

50$ bag:
You seem a bit optimistic to me. copper not connected, no horses connected and no great wall. Read what happened to stuge in the other thread ;). Other than that, you're the biggest of the pack.

Trivial
Enough workers for the cities. A workboat gamble that may pay off. Units to defend. Solid game.

I obviously need to open the games to check them better, but I can already say that I vote for the great wall ;).

Cabert: welcome to Team A+. Your game is definitely better than mine so I guess I'm the current A+ trash player (can't count stuge's game, that kind of bad luck doesn't really count).

My thinking for the next round:

Spoiler :

I think early wonders are a huge gamble - having won them, they rock. We could really use the boost in this game. Personally I love the Oracle/Henge combo - great prophets are really useful - shrine for confucianism or a bulbing of theology and a christian shrine - strong stuff IMO. A religion when isolated is fantastic - no diplo downsides and you get the happy bonuses - and OR is a strong civic.

I kinda dislike the Great Wall when isolated - mainly for the spy points it produces - IMO great spies are a liability on an isolated start... Would delay getting a 'proper' GP out. The barb repelling ability is very nice, but with copper and (relatively) nearby horses I think we can easily fend off waves of barbs. If we had no resources it would be amazing though. Or if it was the old Warlords GE points - they rocked.

The pyramids would be awesome, but sooo expensive...

So, commenting on the games:

$50bag - I like your cities! Capital 1E makes a better financial - at the cost of some production. Also IMO means a city on the West coast is better. Your 2nd city is the same as my 3rd, but the order you did it is simply better! Think it's a very strong point to build from!

Cabert - I need to examine your save as there's no piccie - not got Civ installed at work. Popping writing and being 10 turns from maths seems awesome though!

Oz - it's a shame about the playthrough - I like your Susa! Not sure if that's an eligible continuing point? Still - that's just the sorta thing I'd do. :p

Shyue - Henge nearly in - that's cool! :) And well on the way to having a stab at the oracle... If priesthood and Writing can get in before the oracle gets build elswhere... if there's time enough to chop in a couple of axes and a worker then it'd be a big winner IMO?

R-Rolo - 2 wonders on emperor. That totally rocks! - And right on track for a 3rd. Even though I'm not a mega fan of GW, it's still good to have. If the oracle dropped in it would be a real killer - I'd be tempted to try for that first and landgrab afterwards.

Think for my money, R-Rolos and $50bag both look really good - but I'm a torn between them. R-Rolos - gambles already won is a strong lure... although I'm a little concerned about GSpy pollution of the GPP pool - I'll feel like I was playing russian roulette. :)

I'll think on it some more and load up Caberts save. :)

TriviAl, don't bother with my save, I just moved to team A+.
Well, if you want to see what I mean when i say cottages first, that's it.
The price I paid is quite high :
- only 1worker because building them slows growth = less cottages worked
- only 1 other city for the same reason
- very low production = no wonders, only little troops.
I think I should have gone in the monarchy direction, like shyhue did, happiness is a bigger issue than the economics.

@remconius: Sorry... I don't have BUG installed yet ( will do than when I have time....)

@all

Some thoughts:

There is other option to the win: AP diplo ( in spite of not being as cheesy as it was in 3.0x )... Even if we don't get the necessary votes, the AP :hammers: can be very useful. But I'm a space man myself ;) , so for me space is my option for this game.

About my game: I reckon that risking a GSpy in isolation is a Russian roulette game, but I like the GW + Henge combo in isolation. Henge gives you half trait ( you became almost Creative, which allows you to be more flexible with the city placement ) and GW , besides the GG generation ( useless until first contact ) allows you to not worry with barbs ( and to avoid what happened to stuge :( ). A problem you can get is to not get the necessary lvl unit for Heroic Epic.... unless you chase barbs ;)
My city placemnt really isn't the best ( IMHO I should had moved the inicial settler 1 E... ).. Trivial and 50$ bag made a far better city placement IMHO.
I'm not sure if I'll try to chop Oracle.... Those woods would be more useful for the Hanging Gardens ( and they would gives more hammers by that time ). But having HR early in this type of starts makes a lot of diference....

About the saves: too bad that cabert had moved to the A+ team ( I heard that they pay better  )... I was going to vote on his game :p
Without his save, I would vote on TriviAl one: nice city placement, good development and still with a chance of getting some good early wonders... 50$ bag's game has that detail of not having resources connected and I think that Shuyhe's gamble is far too risky ( I really not a fan of building the Mids, too much hammers.... )

you mean you can get paid to play cIV?
I'm flattered anyway :D.

I think we should all stick to one victory. Of course, I dont mind anybody going onto a different goal, but the games will not be comparable. It just would not serve the purpose of this variant, although it would be a nice challenge and fun ride.

Voting system: 3pts for best game, 2 pts second best, 1 pt third best. Can't vote for your own game. Can't vote for a defeat.

A Team pm votes to nominated collecting officer in A+ (and vica versa).

If 50 Dollar Bag is ok with this I'll nominate him?/her? as collecting officer for A+. I'll collect votes for A Team this round. I'll con other people into collecting votes in subsequent rounds.

Voting to be completed by Thursday midnight (gmt) and results announced Friday morning ready for the weekend.

Even if you've decided to continue your own game please vote.

In case of a tie collecting officer has the casting vote.

My general comments on the save:

I think the capital is better in the original location than 1E on the river. You lose out on production and don't pick up a whole lot of commerce in exchange. I think it also limits your long-term commerce off of the river tiles. Of course there's no way you can know the layout before settling so it's always a gamble either way. ALthough I really liked Giaur's move - I think that spot is better than the original spot.

Barbs may become a problem without the GW but that's partly dependent on the RNG. Hopefully we won't get the same bad luck that Stuge got.

Ozbenno I didn't consider you because you ruled youself out,

Very kind of you not to use the word idiot there ;)

I also think the votes are meant to be sent to pigswill via PM, so you might want to edit your post. I'll actually get to look at the saves and comment/vote tomorrow.

Let's see what people want for victory:

Space:
r_rolo1
Ozbenno
TriviAl
pigswill
Cam_H
cabert
Stuge

Domination:
Giaur
Shyuhe
Remconius
50 dollar bag

Correct? who else?

I'll throw my hat in for Space.

Frankly overseas invasion at Emperor with colony costs would make me cry. :)

If we are going to Dominate, I think it would have to be in the late industrial/early modern just so the economy take it?

IMO both of them would be long games with an emphasis on medieval/industrial growth and teching.

I'd go for space as well.

If its going to continue roughly 50:50 then we could split up based on victory condition.

I think overseas domination is feasible, you can easily vassalize an overseas colony to decrease maintenance costs. Never tried it on emperor though...
