Imperium Offtopicum IV: Third's the Charm?

Do you have any idea just how lush and fertile the Nile delta is? It was called the Breadbasket of the Roman Empire for nothing.

yeah, but i dont knwo theres enough food there to feed 100 million people. and the space is limited, which means population densities will be out of scale.

and i want to irrigate the desert and turn it into something profitable. more living space.

Zoom in...there's a magnifier button for a reason. ;)
Also, Double A, from your claim closest to us in Africa, do you plan on expanding that?

Egypt, yes. Other one... maybe. Probably just them to Egypt.

With the Arabs?

Big deal.
He meant with himself and you. Math's planning to go into Egypt.
By the way, we haven't heard from the Arab's civil war lately...

I guess I'll make some preliminary mentions of my nation.

The Democratic People's Republic of Somaliland.

Capital: Mogadishu

Population: Unknown as of now, estimates of about 5-6 million underlings, 564,000 citizens.

political system: citizens are all perfectly equal, and every decision is decided on by all citizens. A single leader called the Archon is elected every 3 years to serve as figurative leader for reasons of guiding society. But, to be a citizen, you need to be deemed worthy, you must have a certain level of education and pass a test to determine if you're worthy of the responsibilities of society, be willing to fight for the society if necessary.

Non citizens are free in religion and have full civil rights, but are otherwise considered slaves to the state for purposes of conscription in case of war or major national projects, and cannot manage for profit ventures.

Economy: mostly Agriculture. Citizens are handed out businesses to run and will generally use prole labor which they only need to make sure basic needs are met for their worker's families. Most other proles merely live out a subsistence agricultural living for their villages.

Official languages: As the initial citizens are from all over and yet to be raised in our planned system, English will be the official language, as well as Arabic, Greek, and Latin, and the proles are free to speak their native languages.

Military: All citizens are considered in the army, though most have not been trained properly, so only a small force of about 15,000 are up to par of citizens. Using the natives, we will assume most of their equipment of outdated tanks and weapons, and SAMs. Fast attack craft and some landers are all the navy for now, we will buy some new ships and planes at a later date.

History: The first group of citizens are a global group of professionals of every type, who decided in the open chaos of the world to claim a nation to create a practical utopia. Based on the premise of equal opportunity, not equal position, our goals are to give citizenship and responsibility in society only to those who deemed worthy, which after the initial group of citizens, will be based on a rigorous education system where all are entered, even the prole children.
Along with education in science and art, strict martial training and conditioning will be used, as all will be expected capable of defending the society, although obviously not all will be cut out for direct combat and as their education goes on they will be sent off to be specialized in their areas of interest in both military and professional pursuits. Any children who fail the education at any point will be doomed to proledom and it will be very tough work and not many are expected to last.

OOC: how do I base my money and stuff and where I'll buy new military equipment from?

He can have Upper Egypt.

which one? you claimed 2.

...rename your nation to Cardassia, and it will fit perfectly.

You really don't get it, do you. And why do you need 100 million people, exactly?

This is what I hate about your playing. You never want to stick with what you have. Rather than dealing with the environment, people, and general situation provided you, you instead completely change the laws of the Earth so you can have your Byzantine :):):):). Please stop with this, and just be content with what you have.

sorry sir, i was off by 23 million.

...and im still gonna attempt to irrigate the desert. do not worry we will deliver all that sand to those who want more landfills.

if we cant, we will still use the land for some purpose.

Desert irrigation worked in Civ. :mischief:

While not defending all of Mathalamus' gaming habits, I will at least say this: it could be worse. It could have been pre-Imperium Offtopicum, where everyone had a nuclear arsenal the size of Russia's and kept using it... without dying. Gods among men!

Holy crap we're on page 100.

I've never seen a thread get this big before :D

EDIT: Just checked, we're the largest thread in the entire Forum Games section, by a long shot. Good job everyone! :goodjob:

Still on the topic of posts (yes, I find it interesting :p):

I think I can safely say that I have probably made the most profound impact on the game's diplomacy. Ever since my war with China and my anti-Imperialism crusade, my thoughts and actions have shaped the atmosphere of IO up until this day. In fact, the only reason some organizations exist is because of my actions (ANTI EDO, NADTA, etc.). Yet I've only made 132 posts in the entire thread. That's only 6% of the entire post count.

I just thought that was interesting/weird.

We can get back on topic now :D

<picture that you edited>
"wat" worries me is that the forum says you're offline, even though you are.
Another thing: since we're at 100 pages, when does the new IO thread start? When the GM suddenly allows nuclear missiles and everybody blows themselves up? :D

I think we're sticking with this one, since you know, it's been the only iteration so far that didn't end up as Mathalamus vs. the world.

OOC:

I would say I've been quite influential myself, helping to:

1. Craft a European alliance, and later expanding this into a worldwide alliance.
2. Indirectly causing the formation of NADTA. Japan's actions only moved ANTIEDO into action(I may or may not have had plans for a security network beforehand), and the formation of ANTIEDO in itself prompted the FührerPresident of New England to form his own alliance in retaliation.
3. Forming several international agreements - EFTA, the Euro, and several pan-European trade pacts with outside nations.
4. Igniting much controversy through the acceptance of the Neo Incan throne.
5. Mediating the Brazilian crisis, and later providing the resources that made the Venezuelan crisis possible(the land grants, even if I have received them all back).
6. Across time, butting heads with the leaders of the two spheres - New England and Japan - and thus crafting a diplomatic setup that can be quite complicated and tense at times.

And since we're going back to originators, starting the first IO. ;) ...Though Tailless provided the framework that spawned it.

Everyone's hungry for credit, obviously. More hungry than the US government!

OOC:

Where have you been the last 24 hours? :p

South America was engulfed in flames because of him.

It may have been short and sweet, but for a time, there was an "Everybody beat up Mathalamus", given that ANTIEDO ejected him and the other nations formed Operation: Pwnage against him.

Actually, I believe it was a certain Fundamentalist Christian country that started it...:mischief:

Very OOC, but I don't see any buttons on replying that let you put a line through words. Care to show me where that is?

When you want a line through something, put "s" in brackets before it, and "/s" in brackets after it. Without the quotes, obviously.

For instance:

I am a fruitcake dictator vs. I am a fruitcake dictator
