Imperium Offtopicum - UN Building

Will you add my claims on Bahamas, Finland, Jamaica and hispaniola too?

As soon as your case for Alaska expires. :) (I did read you were giving up your claims to Alaska, but I'm not sure if you meant the entirety or just the part Pacifistan wanted; even if you did remove all claims, I think it would be a bit disruptive to the flow of things to change your claims now that people have already voted)

Carthagistan declares that it is in fact willing to compromise on the Gibraltar and the Atlantic Islands issue.

We maintain our claims to all the Azores, the Madeiras and the Canaries, but will be willing to grant a Marian concession at Gibraltar.

Claims Court Case XI: Maryland's Claims on Illinois, Indiana and Ohio

Details: Maryland has countered the CSA's claims to this region.

Votes:

6 for(Maryland, Marian Empire, Carthagistan, Topia, Zelalta, Tibet)

Claims Court Case XII: Ukraine's Claims on Brazil

Details: Ukraine has claimed suzerainty over Brazil.

Votes:

3 for(Ukraine, Israel, Topia)
5 against(Carthagistan, USA, Maryland, Zelalta, Tibet)

JESUS H. CHRIST OF NAZERETH, **** NO TO MARLYLAND.

I also vote No to Ukraine, due to no good reason why it should colonize. The only old world country that has a legitimate claim to Brazil is Carthage, and even then.

Given the importance of naval bases and stations, and the likelihood of the Union of Nations approving both claims cases, the Marian Empire has the following proposal:

Every Atlantic island west of the line shall pass to the Marian Empire, and everything east to Carthagistan. The net result of this is the Azores and the westernmost Canaries passing to the Marian Empire, guaranteeing a safe route into the Atlantic and down the African coast, while also allowing the Carthagistani people to claim most of the Canaries and Madeira Islands - closer to home and the coastline - for themselves.

On the issue of Gibraltar, the Marian Empire proposed it either be:

A. Transformed into a Carthagistani-Marian condominium, with the local laws and practices agreed on by both parties via consensus.

B. A neutral area, akin to what the Union of Nations is likely to arrange for the Panama and Suez Canals, either under self-government or administered by all UN members.

The former protects both Marian and Carthagistani interests, while the latter helps to ensure the Straits of Gibraltar remain open to commerce regardless of political climate.

---

To show it's goodwill despite the tensions, the Marian Empire would also like to offer the following:

An alliance between the Marian Empire and Carthagistan. As our states border eachother and have competing interests, cooperation, rather than competition, would likely yield benefits.

We propose that this alliance merge with the Oceanic Defense Pact, to ensure that our ally Maryland is part of a three-way alliance, meant to protect the Eastern Atlantic coast's integrity. Furthermore, we feel the Oceanic Defense Pact's provisions that free us of obligation to protect them in Maryland proper, but committing us to the defense of all overseas possessions of Maryland, could also be included in this new alliance, preventing a bloody, costly war across the ocean with the United States and Confederate States.

This pact will be kept separate from the Pacific Security Pact, so that the Marian Empire's responsibilities in the Pacific do not collide with Maryland or Carthagistan's interests.

As a concession on our part, being allied would mean that the Marian Empire would support the expansions of both Carthagistan and Maryland's expansions into Africa, and also mediate with lack of bias in the event any border dispute erupts.

We would like all of the Canary Islands to fall under Carthagistani control. Otherwise, we are happy with this proposal.

Carthagistan backs Proposal A.

Carthagistan fully endorses this proposal. However, in the event of conflict between any of the ODP members and the Israeli Republic, Carthagistan will remain strictly neutral.

Edina is Edina Minnesota. I automatically vote reciprocally. All people who vote for my claims get their claims voted for in turn.

And why can't I have Bermuda?

I back your claim to Edina, Minnesota then:goodjob:. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't Edina, Liberia or Edina, Ghana as both of those places are part of my empire, you can't have Bermuda because it's strategically important for my empire here's a map to show why.Bermuda.png

Yes to Maryland's claims.

Yes to Ukraine's claims, as a fellow ally, I will back them.

Forgot this, but I propose the Byzantium Crisis Act. Due to their recent powergaming (see other thread), I propose a worldwide embargo on their country until they stop doing this.

Carthagistan abstains on the Byzantium Crisis Act. The people of Byzantium are already suffering economically from exorbitant military expenditures; as humanitarians first and foremost, we believe an international embargo would only further worsen the situation for the ordinary people.

completely unacceptable. Byzantium was designed to be like this, down to the last technology. in order to stop this alleged powergaming id have to weaken myselg to turkeys level. and i am sure you will not accept that even.

i should have known the entire world was against Byzantium.

my people arent suffering... the military expenses is barely 5%....

Don't worry Mathalamus, my people will send you food and medicine for your starving people.

No, we are against powergaming. Now, this weakening (though I wouldn't call it weakening, Turkey's a 1st world nation) must entail this.
-Reduced standing army size; no more 8 million man armies, you must cap it at 2 million (though a number that high would extremely impact your economy, the upkeep would be enormous)
-No more making stuff up on the spot, i.e, you need to build defenses, not just make them up
-Self-sufficiency in the modern world is impossible, thus you can no longer claim it and must become an active member of the world economy
-No more saturation of the world's market, i.e you can't just come up on the spot that you guys make synthetic oil for 1 cent a barrel, effectively destroying the oil market

If you accept these terms, I will lift my embargo and destroy the Act.

my people arent suffering... the military expenses is barely 5%....

Then how the hell do you manage a 8 million man army????? The U.S. in RL has an army of 1 million men, and the military expenditure is 28%! And they sure have a larger economy then you do!

But doing nothing isn't going to help either. If Byzantium wants to stop their people from suffering, then they will stop their powergaming; and accept my terms.

Turkey is barely a first world nation. fine. it is done. then what do i do with the 1 million regular soldiers left over? military training is their lives basicly..

when did it get that high? i thought their military expenses were like 5%-10%. my economy is slightly larger. by like a trillion or two.
