Inevitable gun control argument thread....

Over here the Police don't carry guns and gun crime is rare.

Gun control killed these people. There should have only been 2 dead the first victim and the shooter that killed them.
But if there were more people with guns, events are more likely to happen in the first place. Fewer deaths per event perhaps, but maybe more events.

And to be honest, unless I was cornered, my best chance would be to run like hell rather than engage in a gunfight. We can't be sure whether your scenario would happen without knowing how events played out.

Edit: And yes, I'm not sure since when the US was a country with "gun control".

I just love how people keep saying how all the college students should have had guns. What's also fantastic is how these same people happen to forget how drunk some of these students get.

In review, Alcohol + Campus full of guns = bad.

IMO there should be an emergency glass pane with guns in it, which you can break in case of a psycho killing spree.

Am I the only one pissed off at the abuse of these shootings? For instance, Jack Thompson is already conjuring the godsdamned devil about how video games caused this.
Heh, I was just thinking - nevermind blaming guns, which popular video game or rock star will get the blame for this one?

Doom is a bit old hat now, after all, though I'm sure Marilyn Manson wouldn't mind the publicity again.

Those that are going to carry guns while intoxicated already do.

Gladi: Oh yeah, forgot about the hypocrites...
Useless: Why European law doesn't allow citizens to carry firearms never ceases to amaze me. :p

And to my question: Can anyone name an American university where guns are allowed to be carried by students on campus? I sure can't think of any.
Here's your big chance to prove me wrong.

unfortunately in real life the hero isn't always a dead eye with a hand as steady as rock. If one man is shooting randomly in a crowd of people the odds are low that a second guy with no personal training shooting back is going to help.

You dont need personal training to hit a man-sized target. Even women can hit them.

The other big debate is shaping up... Namely

"OMG YOU AMERICANZ WIZ GUNS LOL!11!!"

Vs

"OMG YOU EUROPEANZ LIBERAL HIPPIZ LOL!1!!"

My money is on the GTA 4 trailer. I'm pretty sure there's an hidden sex scene in it, as a bonus.

Come on people guns are not that hard to use.

Would you want to play William Tell with me being the shooter? For your sake I hope not.

Why would you assume someone with no training in a panicky situation would manage to not get one of the classmates killed? I don't know about anyone else, but my lecture halls are a good 50-100ft from front to back I wouldn't want some hung-over slob with a shaky hand shooting even if his intent is to only kill the bad guy.

Over 20 people in this last shooting were killed in one classroom, only 4 of them in that class survived, at least one of them by pretending to be dead. By the time it takes him to shoot 20 people, I would like to at least try and shoot him down before he kills everyone.

it's rather unlikely that a student would have a gun to shoot back anyway. and arming our populace against it's wishes so that everyone has a gun is unlikely to decrease murders. just because we have the right to bear arms doesn't mean we should be forced to tuck a .9 in our pants to deter murderous rampages.

Who said anything about 'forcing' people to carry firearms? If I want to carry one, I should be able to (as long as I'm not a felon) , and if you don't want to carry one then you don't have to.

If just one of these students had a gun, lives could have been saved.

 Could you rephrase the question?
I was presuming the current situation was that guns aren't allowed on campus, and someone said that allowing guns on campus would be a problem for when students are drunk.

You say that the drunk people already have guns.

So I'm confused as to what the current situation on university campuses is?
