Wow, where are all the shields coming from? Does the mod you're playing add more shields to some tiles?

BTW, "National Guard" is mispelled.

No, I don't think the mod added that much. I think I uped the amount of sheilds produced from resoirces like iron and oil and such. Not by a huge amount.

Ooooohhh yeah! Hell of a sheild producer, ehh? Of course, I was at war in that foto, and a lot of other cities had high production capacities (admittedly not as high as this) that were building units and I needed to build up my navy.

EDIT: Not to mention the pollution is epic.

Shiet, you could like build a wonder in one turn.

I think even the ancient age wonders need at least 300 shields to build, so no, he couldn't. 2-4 turns, yes.

The Mausoleum of Mausollos and Statue of Zeus are both 200 shields. But meh OK, he's already industrial...

In a recent Monarch OCC 20k game I was messing around with, I built the SoZ in roughly 1500 AD, sneaking it in right after Newton's. All of the world's ivory was concentrated on an island with one lone civilization, who ended up incredibly backwards. In a cruel twist of irony for them, once I was able to get Navigation (required for the overseas trade), I traded them Math for an ivory supply.

Of course, by that point, you'd be so close to researching Metallurgy that you'd get practically no use out of it, and 3.2.2 units aren't remotely useful at that point in the game anyway.

Unless of course you want the extra sheilds you get from, um, disbanding them. :mischief:

Here's a pic (not from my mod):

But you would keep it from some backward Civ who might get several units from it. Denying the AI can sometimes be more useful than the units.

DWetzel was playing for a 20K victory, and for that end, 4 culture per turn at the low price of 200 shields are fantastic. I guess the free AC units didn't interest him at all... ;)

Quite right, this. Usually by that time the main uses for military units are:

1. Discouraging enemy civs from advancing on one of my, um, outlying cities. ;)

2. If I've built a resource colony outside the borders (not an infrequent occurence), they're fantastic for building a little unit wall around the resource so nobody settles too near to it.

3. A nice size stack of ACav can actually do some decent damage to a nearby city or two guarded by spears or pikes, if the occasion demands.

The unit upkeep costs aren't that big a problem once you've got some decent trades going with the AI for cash, so I usually keep a stash of about ten of the little pests around.

I find that the AI will send all of its reg warriors in it's first run at DoW at late(er) wars. I find the AC useful for foiling these attacks. I usually have a couple of elites around and it's always worth a shot at an MGL. (not likely but always possible)

But, but, aren't the Romans light Red, not dark Red? They were powerful too.

(Cool Album Cover, Bro. :p)
