Nation Name: Nuifallash (OOC: A word for South (Nui) in local Orkish language combined with the Demon Tong for Bay(falkhaz)) Mercenary Conglomerate.

Species and social classes: 30% trained orcish mercenaries and warriors, 20% orcish civilians, scientists, artisans, etc. 20% skilled artisans of every species imaginable, 30% slave of every species imaginable.

History to come Saturday after my finals

Government: Ruled by generals of the Mercenary Company. When an old general dies, steps down or is missing in action, all who wish to replace him participate in a mock war game to determine which of them is the best leader. Each one receives an army, armed with wooden sticks with red dye on the end, and arrow shafts, also with red dye so that no one is harmed. The two armies then battle each other in hilly terrain. If you have red dye on your skin, you are considered dead and must exit the battlefield immediately (failure to do so is punished by being actually killed, so few risk cheating). The army with the last man standing wins, and the soldiers receive a prize, while the leader becomes the new general of the province/town/city. Merchants who make the army's weapons also wield great, but unofficial power.

History:
When Balor entered Cumhail, he hired many locals to serve his cause. Thousands of orcs, amongst others, rallied under his banner. This massive army would sweep across the world, and soon came to be feared, for it was not just a gathering of warriors and generals, but also of wise men and shamans. These orcish scientists would devise the Argmetal, (OOC: strong metal), an alloy of iron much stronger than what is used by most. With this, the new "Clan of the Argmetal" became a feared fighting force. However, once Balor, the great head of the clan was arrested, ending the divine war, the clan's many generals feuded amongst themselves for power. The clan scattered, forming three separate entities. The Cult of Balor, a demon worshipping faction that sought to summon the Great One once more, The Empire of Argmetal, initially the strongest, headed by the Head General Exzeratrix of the old Clan, and the Clan of the Usurper, headed by Zangariza, Exzeratrix's sister and rival for the throne.

The Cult established itself in a range of mountains east of the Necrocracy of Baase and lives there still, with many troglodites as slaves. The Empire of Argmetal stood strong on the Northern Coast until it was sacked by a large raid of Goblins, lead by the Great General Hanus Scarupion. Meanwhile the clan of the Usurper went south, where they settled around the Nuifallash bay, assimilating or enslaving the locals.

Is it just me or does that area spaceman is in look kinda like the US?

Now that you mention it...

When they first came here, the Clan of the Usurper, now renamed the Clan of Nuifallash was a weak nation. That all changed when they offered their armies in service to the Raevyllke in the massive 356 Ghoul War. While the orcs suffered many casualties fighting alongside local orcs on the frontlines, they also came back with enough money to quickly expand, obtain slaves and soon outgrow their still living rival, the Empire of Argmetal. Their next major exploit was associated with the sack of the aforementioned empire by goblins. Goblin General Scarupion had collected enough gold and slaves to afford mercenaries, and due to an old rivalry between the two orcish realms, the Clan of Nuifallash happily provided. After their successes in both of these wars, the Clan of Nuifallash, now renamed the Nuifallash Mercenary Conglomerate rapidly strengthened itself and expanded to occupy the land they hold today.

OOC on the Cult of Balor: I won't do anything with these guys, my people don't even remember where they are. They are a 1 territory, mostly underground faction of orcs with troglodyte slaves somewhere in the empty, northern part of the continent. Basically, I hope someone's hapless explorer stumbles on them someday, but other than that they are currently irrelevant.

To Everyone: Need well armed soldiers for your wars? We will provide, no questions asked, as long as you pay us.

I wish to express my love of Intrigue of Magic.

I am considering the first update to occur on Monday, perhaps at noon to deploy a 3 day run per years.

spaceman, please consult me before writing yourself into the history of my nation. Marret has little respect for the living (except as servants and Necrite hosts) so would not hire mercenaries. Besides Formont is yet to expand beyond the borders of the independent baronies that previously made up the area - and still hang on by their fingernails in places.

I think I pretty much wrote myself into everyone's history...
At their height no one was unreachable for the Wesh Faerie Pirates.

Being a threat on the fringes of many societies is different to stating you played a major part in the expansion of someone else's nation. What spaceman put is pretty contradictory to the nature of Formont.

I do have to comment spaceman: consulting players is a important consideration. If you wish to be part of Thor's and Fili's nation then be sure to do diplomacy with them. ;)

As for religion: there are many faiths in Cumhail, many worshipping demons or angels, many worshipping dragons many worshipping others and many that do not worship. Baase for instance is very, very obsessed spiritual with the cycle of life and death, regarding "undeath" as "breaking the cycle." Balor, the (former) Hand of Setesh, has religious sects among the Famouri. How his and Ysbal's positions altered after their exile by their superiors can be a debate. As for the "Cult of Balor" in the East of Baase: we could ask of the necromancer views towards both divines, especially among the hard-core Scaanoar fans. Faiths and attitudes to faiths can be a great interest.

As for inserting additional NPCs: I will try to take a basis of case by case consideration.

No worries.

Sorry :(. Will move the empire of Argmetal.

History moved and fixed.

The Cult isn't in the Necrocracy's territory. It is far to the East of it, but the Necrocracy is the closest nation to it.

Wight vs Wight - When Necrites Clash

Although strife between large Necrite states is practically unheard of Marret encourages low level internicine warfare between his vassals as a means of keeping the mortal population in check, formenting innovation in the art of the mortwright and disposing of worthless lords (to be replaced from the trickle of men who come to Formont seeking immortality through Wightdom).

As all Wights possess the ability to control any Necrite the favoured soldiers of the nobility of Formont are essentially useless, as any that get close enough to contribute fall under the influence of the other Wight. This does not prevent either side from directing their hordes at the enemy but this does make the frontlines - being the point where the influence of the Wights exactly balances - a throng of Necrites constantly passing from one Lord's influence to another.

Warfare between Wights is therefore carried out by mortals, either levies or mercenaries, or vassal Wights with the ultimate aim of assassinating the enemy Lord.

It's like you wrote the mercs into your nation :p

10 out of 10 for observation, but I'm going to have to mark you down for accuracy regarding the point. Mortals are only used against other Necrites, every one else gets horded.

Nuifallash Mercenary Conglomerate: fleeing from Formont a party of humans have been captured by a party of trolls that are seeking to sell them to a ghoul necromancer for both particing of magic and to make ghouls out of the humans. The party has been located among the northern most tip of your borders. Fancy some heroic battle?

Blue: What I want to search for the troll party. Send up some of the troops, capture the humans and trolls. If any of them are skilled craftsmen, soldiers or governors, then let that person join our conglomerate as a free artisan and let him/her pick two of the others as slaves. Otherwise, once captured, enslave both the humans and the trolls.

Green: Territory that I want to add to the conglomerate, hopefully through peaceful intimidation assimilation, but we can fight if needed.

The Capital of Nuifallah, Zangra (named in honor of our founder, Zangariza the Usurper) was more festive than usual on the 18th day of Slava (our may 28th if I counted correctly, see OOC The Orcish Calendar below). This was because there were two major events occurring. On one hand, the Great General Sanxil had organized a large party to raid northwards, where an opportunity for a good battle, easily obtained slaves, or possibly skilled workers with knowledge to offer presented itself. Second, because another contingent was sent to settle Southwards, and a war game was being run to decide its leader. The two armies split across a wide field, with a slightly forested hill in the center. Team Blue and Team White, each marked with corresponding war paint for easy distinguishability took up their red dye armaments. For Lieutenant Hanox the correct course of action seemed clear. Run to the central hill as fast as possible, and make use of the cover it provided. And so, to the cheering of spectators, Blue team rushed the mountain.

Alzinra, head of white team, however saw a different opportunity. One of the sides of the hill was a steep ledge, under which an army could hide. Since both teams were equally matched, her orcs should get to the cliff at the same time as the enemies. Under the cliff, they could sneak around the hill unseen hitting blue team from the rear. Since the teams would reach the central point at the same time Blue would not have time to set up defensive positions among the back and front.

Hanox was stunned to see that, not only had he reached the center in record time, but white team was nowhere to be seen. Stunned, but not fooled.

"Sob towards the Osprey, Travel fish to fish!". This coded command was rapidly understood by the soldiers as "Gather towards the Center, stand back to back", the fastest possible response to a coming ambush.

Hence, when White team emerged from the cliff, Blue had just barely organized. Arrows of red dye flew through the air from both sides, and the "killed" rapidly left the battlefield, into the cheering spectator crowd. White had an advantage, but not as much as Alzinra had hoped. Hanox ordered a charge, hoping to scatter the advancing positions. Orcs drew wooden swords, and soon, red paint covered the ground. Finally, Alzinra won, and the two teams regrouped in the center of the field, where the crowd cheered the new governor of the southern lands.

OOC: The Nufallash Calendar: The year is split up into 15 months, of 25 days each (except the last month, which is 15 days). Each month is named after some major event that occurred during that time. The Month of Slava is named after the sacking of the fortress of Slava, back when the horde was still led by Balor, and the fort was still occupied by its goblin residents instead of a dragon. Often, the names of months are now the only memory of major cities that one of the two sides of the divine war burnt and have otherwise been forgotten.

The months are:
1: The Month of Balor (starts on approximately our April 1, this is the 15 day month, once assigned ritual significance, though the ritual is forgotten here))

2: The Month of Ishtar (after the destroyed city)

3:Month of Slava

4: Month of the Splintering (after the splitting of the horde into three parts)

5: Month of Kohos (no one remembers what this one is named after. Probably a ruined city somewhere)

6: Month of Argmasair (literally metal shaper, in honor of the inventor of Argmetal)

7: Month of Xeryl (the capital of the old Empire of Argmetal, sacked!)

8: Month of Pharozinor (The first chief of the orcs gathered by Balor, name literally means "ruler under Balor")

9: Month of the Ghoulslaying (referring to the great Ghoul War, when we were hired by Raevyllke)

10: Month of the Banishment (when Balor was banished, sowing the seeds for the splintering of the horde, which occurred on the next year)

11: Month of Zangra (when the Clan of the Usurper settled on this bay)

12: Month of Kurazinor (the second chief of the old clan, successor under Balor)

13: Month of Ormonad (once again, no one knows what this is supposed to be)

14: Month of Ornostratan (The Reorganizer, the chief who made the Mercenary Conglomerate what it is today, a large mercenary company. His original name was Pharozinor III)

15: Month of battles yet Unfought
