We are happy to announce that our new Easy Upload System is now open for business! This new system replaces the existing Easy Upload and is integrated with the forum. It has the following features:

  • Ability to see all the files you uploaded and delete old files that are no longer needed yourself.
  • Ability to add a short description for the file (optional)
  • After you upload, it gives you the BBcode to use in your post or your File DB entry.
  • Your uploaded files are placed in your own folder.
  • Digital file name for better security (you can still see the original file name).
You can access Easy Upload using the links under "Quick Links" and at the bottom of the forum, as well as the "Upload" link in the nav bar.

Currently the max file size is 10 MB and space limit is 30 MB. In the future we may create additional usergroups with different settings.

Note that the uploaded files are now stored on the forum server, instead of the civfanatics.net server. Thanks to our host Telefragged for making this possible!

Check it out and we hope you like the new system! :)

PS: BTW, the upload size limit for the File Database has been increased to 10 MB as well.

Here are a few screenshots:

No, everyone only sees the files he/she uploaded.

Note: For some reason the upload button doesn't appear in the editor toolbar. I am looking into it.

Can we change that?
No, allowing people to browse the upload folders is not a good idea.

What about the 'old' uploads system? Will files on that server still be accessible, and for how long?
We have tons of files on it so they will continue to be accessible. I don't plan to delete any existing upload folders.

Why not?

We could make it optional so that posters can choose to have thier files displayed in the open or kept secret.

hooray! this looks great TF! this is much better for us avatar makers than the file database :)

Why is it so hard for you to just take "No" and move on? He said no, so forget about it and move on.

A few questions…

How is this different than using the attachments? We get 20 MB with attachments and can upload/delete them as needed. I’m a little confused between the two.

Can we upload screenshots and than use the [img][/img] tags to display them in our posts? That's the one thing about attachments I don't like, as you have to use the [attach][/attach] tags.

So we can upload screenshots/files from our SGOTM games without having to worry about another team seeing it? I’ve been using attachments for the security.

^we get only 500kb for attachments, and that only for some files. .zip for instance is 300kb.

Thunderfall: I love the new system, its awsome. I uploaded this morning, only to find this new system, and i was in shear jubilation at how easy the new system was. I used to have to upload the file, click the file sever thingy, then right click my file, goto properties, and then copy the whole url, i love the new way....Thanks so much :D :D :D

tried uploading my civ4savegame and it did not accept it? Am I the only one facing this issue?

Was it a Warlords save? It was not on the allowed list. I have added CivWarlordsSave to the allowed list of Easy Upload as well was forum attachments.

It's mainly allowed size difference. The Easy Upload also gives you additional space. You can use Easy Upload and use IMG tag to include screenshots in your posts.

As Till said, you can also ImageShack for images, but if you do, you shuld make sure to use the direct link (last link they provide), so people don't need to visit ImageShack's site to see the full image. ImageShack's site sometimes has popup ads.

Yeah, you can do that. Since people can't browse your folder and the files have digital filename, they should be private enough.

Methos: Why not use www.imageshack.us for screenshots? It saves server space and bandwidth.

Considering the simple fact that attachments can be removed and deleted, I don't see how this doesn't save server space.

FAQ

The administrator may allow you to use the attachment feature of this forum, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, a zip file etc. There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make.

To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [Manage Attachments] button at the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive.

Only certain types of files may be attached: these are the valid file extensions for files to be attached to this forum: bmp civ4replay civ4savedgame civwarlordssave doc dpy gif jpe jpeg jpg net pcx pdf png sav txt zip.

After posting, the image attachments may display a thumbnail, depending on the forum settings. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon.

FAQ
Well as long as the image is on the server, it does use server space. ;) And you also have the added inconvenience of having to delete them, which in return makes reading old threads less interesting. I just don't see the advantage of using the attachment function for images. But hey, it's not my business how you handle it.
I was just pointing out another option. :)

Convenience factor. Imageshack is just so easy to use and you don't even need to remember to delete said files. Just use it for your imaging needs without using CFC server space at all.

I tried to upload a CIV vanilla save and it said something like non permitted file forrmat cvi4savegame, next time will take a screenshot...is there a trick to consider for CIV files?
