imgur is pretty bad for very large photos, it is it's only downside.

It's gotten a lot better. I don't need to split the DH or V2 maps in half for updates once half the maps are claimed anymore. Nobody should be using a map that Imgur downsizes.

If its a map you intend to use later, do not convert it. Conversion of a map to .jpg lowers the image quality to unusability. Other images will be fine.

Imgur works fine, without resizing.
this is a map of Cyprus with the counties removed. and, i want to do a few things to this map:
1. any cleanup work that i might have missed.
2. enough provinces so that most 10 people can join, claiming 10 provinces, and claim 5 more a turn with comfortable room to grow. about 200 to 300? also note the major cities locations.
i know the latter is a big job, but i dont have the artistic skill necessary to draw nice borders, and im pretty bad at putting major cities in the actual locations.

Map has six provinces.
Copy and paste into Paint. Click Resize. Replace both 100s with 50s to halve the size.

hm. you know what, i hadn't really considered using the existing provinces.
some of them look really awkward, though, and the map is still huge. at least you can sort of tell where the major cities are...

Provided claims are adequate in number, awkward borders aren't an issue; players are usually pretty good at claiming to look aesthetically appealing.
Some folks make a habit of roping off areas with claims but that's what the GM's right to determine the map is for.
