V-Visigoths? Oh, Spain. Spain is the Visigoths? Huhmm... So no Muslim Iberia or Reconquista either.

I think the chief questions in China are

1. What's up with the Fujian and Guangdong (southern coast)?
2. What stopped the Mongols from reaching the Yangzi?
3. How is the Middle Kingdom even holding together?

1. Like a year ago I could have told you but I just kind of forgot. I think of it in very vague terms as an ethnic Zhuang state that exists in the Nipponese/Choson sphere, for the most part.

2. Centuries of dynastic and sectarian conflict and an apathy towards Chinese affairs that has developed as a result of competition from Nippon and Choson, and from the fact that the Middle Kingdom is basically a failed state and poses no significant threat to the Great Yuan, and may in fact be more easily controlled when it serves as a buffer between the Great Yuan and Siam.

3. It's a mess.

I'd be interested in your thoughts on Visigoth Spain. I'm very interested in the idea and the evolution of a separate Gothic culture in the Iberian Peninsula that has spread to the western hemisphere in the form of the newly independent Visigoth colony in the OTL Southern US and Mexico. The two states may be in competition for the title of the Gothic Empire, though as I'm a fan of alternate spellings as a means of creating more immersion, I'm also tempted to call them the Geatic or Gutthidian states.

EDIT: For the record I have become too jaded and separate from the academic discipline of history or the academic-adjacent style that NESes for example used to try to uphold, so I really don't care about plausibility much at all as I am interested in things that are interesting, unique, and not "Alien Space Bats." So don't even talk that noise to me sweaty

Trusth be said, I know absolutely nothing of the Visigoths. They came from across the mountains one day, and were conquered by the Caliphate the next, as far as I know. Surely they left something behind, but I could not tell you what.

Much is made of Iberians and Carthaginians and Romans, of Muslims and Frankish nobility (though they are rarely acknowledged as such), the petty Christian kingdoms and earldoms that grew to subjugate the Muslim petty kingdoms that the Caliphate had devolved into and their progressive coalescence into Castile and Aragon, and thence Spain.

I gather that Visigoths are made a bigger deal out of in the old Castile, which does trace its Christian history to Visigoth resistance in the Cantabrian coast. Catalonia and Aragon trace it to the Carolingian counties.

I intentionally dropped off the map of social media about two years ago now as some kind of protest/instinctual and pained gesture, like barfing. I haven't kept up with a lot of people, particularly in terms of the best way to contact them. @Double_A and I, you may have heard, briefly went to high school together. He was, if I remember correctly, two classes ahead of me, but was still in the general area we grew up in when I was an upperclassman and he'd come to shows - I did theatre - and wave the flag every once and a while. I was a weirdo then, too, as my post history will make clear, and while I didn't and don't know him particularly well, I'd be glad to catch up. If he sees this that's cool, but if not, I am kind of in and out these days and will gladly talk to just about anyone about anything except politics.

EDIT: When we were both in Capto Iugulum my freshman year he would come down the hallway and yell "Sweeeedeeen" at me and whallop me with this Indiana Jones hat he was always wearing. This "scared the hoes" and I think he knew that

Hahahahaha, "harassment," your words not mine. In retrospect kind of very cool of you. It's things like that that I look back on, as opposed to the mind-numbing, pretentious minutia that made up the rest of the time. I was such a little try-hard. We would have been a lot closer if you had been around by the time I was a junior, although I had morphed into something of an arrogant jerk, looking back on it. I was allowed to feel like a big man on campus for a little minute, my fifteen minutes of teenage fame. And truly, screw the theatre kids who looked us askance for like, trying to coordinate on orders in the back of the classroom. I wouldn't want to trade places with them, at all, whatsoever, in our adult lives.

Ah, I'm really glad you feel that way about it. I like the idea that you find it endearing, I wish I had tried to connect with him more although I guess at the time we didn't necessarily have that much in common. I was like, waking up to life in 9th grade, I didn't really have many interests or hobbies other than NESing and didn't know how to orient myself in the world that much, it's actually one of the only cool things that happened that year.

I had forgotten about that. W e i r d. Yeah, we did all go to school together. I think Mango was in the class right above me. We were both members of the Gay-Straight Alliance and the Young Democrats, I think. I'm remembering now that I was made the leader of the like, student atheism club, and I think he was in that, too.

Out of intrigue: on subject of a game where one uses magic would you prefer to play as a figure, a small institution or a country/realm?

I am scheming something that also requires questions on how to set magic. Have players focus on a domain of their choosing from a list or reeform? Set a list of domains for people to put points in or make them specialize? Free-form or more structured? I sense the god games that were in this sub-forum be of intrigue in consideration for this, although I intend to keep the avatars as it were mortalish in certain regards. Additionally there will be influence from the likes of NESCraft and other systems which use roll with a foundational element to fall back, while enable focus on role playable activity and consequences.

O and I may have found a solution to getting the needed fantasy map: I will be setting plans shortly to develop said map.

Note this is in the brainstorming stage of development but the project will potentially be my dive since I did Intrigue of Magic and the two Imperial Die IOTs.

I will ask @Thorvald of Lym about the best means of spread sheeting any data on regards to Roll 2 Rule, although I will focus on manageability: I will need to think on the best means to set out non-player actors, particular if going the figure route I set out some realms which players may interact with.

So happens Master of Magic is a fave and a inspiration for this work being brainstormed.

The figure may enable more ease on skills and manageability. I will set up a character format and to mediate on how best to reflect skills & specialism for each of the avatars.

Of course if will need to set out the range of the scale of play in the world to set in. This fantasy roll map generator might prove handy, mainly to allow a blank slate to work with. I will need to set out the environments. I will need to think on the scale, whether we play in the whole world, a continent, a pair of small continents or a region but the scale will be in consideration to the powers of the magic users the players will be. Of course technology level will need to be considered, whether be Bronze Age, Iron Age, middle or a early modern period. However this will have to be considered with the mechanical elements and how non-player characters interact with the players and the other non-player agents.

Novo Solo is a distant rock in the Outer Belt Colonies far from the suffocating Earth and Sol System. The population live within high-walled city-states to defend themselves against the aggressive wildlife. One such city is Solo Nobre.

Solo Nobre, established by the Solo Nobre Concern, was the first settlement and is the largest city on Novo Solo. The Novo Exército do Povo (NEP), led by the revolutionary leader Supreme Commander Lino Brandão, liberated the city from SNC during The Troubles. Now Secretary General, Brandão's government nationalized industry, built-up Nobrean defenses, and built a vast network of orbital guns to defend the city from invaders from above.

Citizens enjoyed increased access to food and water and enjoyed improvements in standards of living and infrastructure even as their access to trade goods met increasing restrictions due to sanctions and internal restrictions to guard against foreign influence. Existence remained harsh and inequality did not vanish overnight, much to the chargin of the Corvids, but life had improved remarkably over life before the Revolution.

Radio Free Solo Nobre is reporting that, as of ten minutes ago, General Secretary Lino Brandão is dead. The weeks where decades happen have arrived.

Solo Nobre is a concept for an IOT based loosely on megagames such as National Security Decision Making and New World Order 2035. It will be designed to be a role playing simulation in each players are members of "cells" (a cell for the Loyalists is the main cell, with additional cells for other factions possible depending on the player count). Within a cell, a player has a role (General, Head of Intelligence, Journalist, etc.) and helps craft with the Game Director ambitions (their overall goal).

A description of National Decision Security Making from Paxsims

The players in a game are divided into national cells, with typically between 10 and 25 players in each. Each player is assigned a position within that cell’s decision-making structure, from which he or she can affect the formulation of national policy, laws, budget allocations, foreign affairs and decisions regarding security, law enforcement activities and the use of armed force. A player in the U.S. cell, for example, may be the leader of a congressional faction, a Cabinet Secretary, or Chief of Staff of one of the armed services. In the Chinese cell, the player might be commander of the People’s Liberation Army Navy, the Foreign Affairs Advisor for the Communist Party of China, or an entrepreneur running a massive business and financial conglomerate in Hong Kong. Each player is provided with a written motivation, for that position, that describes what his/her character believes in and works toward in the development of national policy. The player then acts within the decision making/political structure, interacting with other players in their respective roles. In each cell’s decision-making structure (simulating the nation being played), participants try to move national funding, policies and practices in their desired direction. They also react to injected events in a manner that is true to each group’s nature, as they try to advance their agenda and work toward political ascendancy.

No ETA on when this game will go up. This is partially to gauge interest and partially to work out kinks. Chief kink being if I want to run this as a traditional IOT on the forum go for a full four or eight hour live game in Discord on a weekend.
