Ipod

Not that I know of. I got a Sony Walkman NW-HD1 mp3 (it actually converts the files to ATRAC3plus and plays that) player, and it's pretty good. I doubt that you can play games on them, though. That's what Nintendo DSs and Gameboy Advances are for.

I am pretty sure there is no way to play games on the iPod. You can only access text or music files from the iPod. You could load other things, but only use it to transport them, not to use them.

I think text-based games are possible.

It's: "It's iPod, not Ipod" - not "its".

Was that really necessary, SN? ;)

That was actually intentional. I wanted to show that I was an Apple partisan and not a spelling nazi, because I believe I have gone on record as favoring the death penalty for those, and, well, it would be hypocritical to act like one.

 Well that's okay then!

On topic: iPods are rubbish ripoffs. Even if you can play games on them. Which you can't.

Sell your ipod and buy something from either Creative or Rio. Companies which actually know something other than stupid trend appeal, which is all the ipod has. It's just a stupid trendy icon. It looks rather like those plastic toy phones I had when I was two years old.

Are the batteries any better on the other mp3 players? Because that seems to be the only problem with the iPod, and the only thing I can imagine being different between it and the rest.

The Sony one has a 30-hour battery. I'm not sure about the others, but they're probably good too. I heard that the Rio is good. My brother's friend apparently installed Linux on it, or something like that.

Except it has the simplest UI. It's the best because that's what it is.

My friend's got an iPod, and it's got a few games on it, like the kick ass defender type game where you have to use the touchy scrolly wheely thing to shoot down aeroplanes and paratroopers from a turret. I don't know if it's on the mini iPod or what, but it was kick ass! Does anyone know if there's a hack for the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (boy that's a long name compared with iPod) to make it play games?

Oh, and sorry, I don't know any sites for iPod games.

Btw, if you want to part exchange your iPod for my Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (30Gb), you're more than welcome. I love the look of the iPod personally (I like the pretty colours too). It's much more than an mp3 player, it's a fashion accessory too, so use it as such!

I don't know why so many people are hatin' on the iPod and how it's supposedly "ripped off." It's really not.

i just got an ipod mini for christmas too (and btw, to all you naysayers i am in love with it. possibly the best piece of christmas material i have ever gotton. i love it, i never have to carry around CD's again, i can play any song i have ever owned, i love the interface (i think the idea of just touching the wheel instead of preesing sown on it is genius) did i mention i love it? i recoemnd to anyone with more than 5-10 CD's to immediatly go out and purchase one, or at least some type of MP3 player. if i forgot to mention i love it, consider it said). you can acess games by going to the 'extras folder' in the first menu and hitting 'games' i love the "music quiz" one

It's the cool thing to do:-p

It's the beautif of the iPod, not only does it have its own fan base, but its own haters club too.

I recommend some real MP3-Players.

How about Jetaudios iAudio G3, the iAudio U2 or the quite rare yet amazing XDRUM 403?

The weak battery life and the dependency on a LiIo battery and the recharging time of ANY iPods make them poor choices for any real MP3-Player Addict.

I just gave you some ideas. I personally value the iAudio G3 highly, the XDRUM has only USB 1.1, as a multifunctional USB-Stick / Radio / MP3 / Voice / with inbuilt 70mW Speaker with LED-light and retractable USB-connector (no need for a cable) it would fit my demands exactly, but unfortunately it has only USB 1.1...

The iAudio G3 not only features great sound (I have heard it, and almost immediately wanted to buy it, but I resisted ...) but also amazing 50 hours of battery life. Even if you cut this by a 25% margin, trust no claim by the manufacturer, it is great.

Sorry, iPod-Users. Your white brick is even too expensive to use it as a coaster for whatever reasons, or to throw it at people. But you can sell it on eBay and look for a reasonable MP3-Player there.

Just take in mind, minimum output power should be 2x 10 mW... the more the better. Battery Life should exceed 12 hours. Flash players are more practical than HD-players, 1 GB is no longer unreasonable to ask for. USB 2.0 is a huge plus.

But... the mini Ipod is still a nice toy for the MP3-Beginner. After the initial clamor, you can nail it to the wall, but I still suggest selling and getting a reasonable MP3-Player.

Stop the iPods. Get better quality and more features for a lesser price! :)

you have hit upon my greatest grievence with the ipod mini, the low battery life (the book claims 8 hours, but it seems 4-6 is what it really is, and i suppose i am not as much in love with the ipod itself as i am with mp3 players in general

I have a portable CD Player that plays mp3s. 30 hour + battery life. Not that it matters as I use rechargable batteries.

It was 19 (US)dollars.
