Iron and Blood - Game Thread

In response to Afghanileaks, the government of Librulstan makes an official statement saying, "Meh, we didn't say anything too bad anyway, did we? We barely said anything at all, for that matter."

Techno agreed that beyond a reasonable doubt AA is the culprit here, and requested that I boot him from the group.

I am posting this so AA understands why I booted him from the group.

He argued that my "martyr" post wasn't posted. It was.

It's not really hard to move "edit" around.

But to be honest, I don't really care. Like I've said before, the only active members are the ones that were hurt by the leaks. Everyone else was more or less unaffected. That's not a good sign, imo.

That quite BS that even though we have clearly beaten you (there were 2 other distinctive differences between my pic (i posted the same pic as you in the group, except taken by me)) your not going to admit it.

Also if I had done it, I would have pointed out the edit sign earlier, not after 3 hours of defending my honor (it continued after you went to sleep), therefore your point is invalid.

Quick Stats

Expansion

See map. (No write-up this update, I am very tired).

Events

Spoiler :
Xi’an – Clash of Cultures

(middle event)

We live in interesting times. Xi’an is once again a great cosmopolitan city, and these days merchants aren’t the only foreigners in town. The Duke of Wellington and Afghanistan’s Hekmatyar have been hired by the King to help train the Kingdom’s forces and bring in “foreign perspectives” of warfare. So far they’re doing a great job, and the meeting of cultures and ideas has arguably been an incredibly enriching experience. However, much to the King’s fury, this has generated a considerable conservative backlash. Some groups at court opposed foreign influence. One prominent scholar bemoaned how “we have become so insecure of ourselves that we plead to foreign barbarians for assistance. What could they possibly teach us except corruption?” The military, in particular, is seen by some as an especially sacred institution, one which has defended the Kingdom for so long against foreigners.

1) I guess it may be a step too far – Gain 1 stability, -50% combat strength for the next two turns.
2) Shut up, all of you! – Gain the upgrade “Limey Warfare” free, Lose 1 stability, -30% conservative influence, 20% chance of rebellion

Swaziland – Resistance in the Sahel

(middle event)

Well, maybe resistance isn’t the right word to use. The locals aren’t taking up arms or anything, but it seems like we are not getting what we paid for. The chiefs appear to be acting willfully uncooperatively despite the vast amounts of subsidies we are giving them. They don’t pay their dues, obstruct the work of our soldiers, and fail to pay royal dignitaries the proper respect due to one’s overlord.

Options
1) This can’t go on – Lose 2 IC this turn, Gain 1 stability, 50% chance of revolt in the Sahel.
2) Whatever – Lose 1 stability

Japan – Industrialisation Gathers Pace
(good event)

The Shogunate’s investment and subsidies in industry is beginning to pay off, with unprecedented industrial growth reported by the Finance and Trade Ministry. The takeover of Korea also opened up a new market and source of raw material for the country.

Effect: Gain 1 factory in Japan, 1 factory in Korea.

Great Britain – Military Innovation

(Very good event)

The loss of the Maghreb sparked a scramble to reform Britain’s decrepit military. Luckily, the country has no shortage of brilliant and respected military minds, and now they got their chance to shine. After a “told you so” to the politicians, they set about radically modernizing the British Army.

The British generals The Duke of Wellington, hero of the Napoleonic Wars, led the initiative with the “Limey Warfare” tactics he developed, working closely with Generals Van Geyte and Anson. Field Marshal Clarke reviewed the military’s logistical organization, while Sir Robin Longstride and Isaac Brock oversaw the development of new weapons and arsenals.

New army upgrade: Limey Warfare
+50% army strength modifier

Granted free to Great Britain
Available to all countries for 4 IC

Technological Breakthrough

Spoiler :
Germany – Improved Firearms

Samuel Coltz, of Weimar, Germany, has invented an improved revolving breech-loading pistol, as well as a revolving musket, and have plans to mass produce them in the near future. The Imperial German Army has contacted his arms manufacturing company to place an order.

Bonus:

New army upgrade: Revolvers
+25% army strength modifier
-2 unit supplies requirement

Granted free to Germany
Available to all countries for 4 IC

Iceland – Photography

Ragnar Sigurðsson has invented a novel process for capturing images from life. Studying the works of French inventors Joseph Niepce and Louis Daguerre (the former died in 1833, and the latter died tragically in a fire in 1834), Sigurðsson has developed their techniques of “photography” (as many are calling the process) further, to perfect what is now being called “Sigurðssontype” photography.

The pictures (or “photograph”) produced by Sigurðssontype are black-and-white. The Icelandic government is reportedly backing further research in order to be able to produce photographs that show blonde.

Bonus: +1 factory in Iceland, +5% culture.

California – Electromagnetic Induction

Michael Faraday, the British-born Californian scientist, demonstrated the principle of electromagnetic induction for the first time in San Francisco in 1835. His work has led to the invention of various models of electrical generators and motors. At the moment none are being used on a large scale or are commercially successful, though they show great potential (pardon the pun).

Bonus: +10 science points

Siam – Steel plough

A Mr. Inn, a poor metal worker from Ayutthaya has invented and marketed a water buffalo-driven steel plough, which is much stronger than previous iron ploughs. The new plough promises to open up new land previously considered unsuitable for farming to agriculture. Mr. Inn now heads a large company based in Bangkok manufacturing hundreds of ploughs for Siamese farmers and for overseas export.

Bonus: +1 factory in Siam, +1 population center in Siam

GM Comment:

Unfortunately next week I have several exams and a major assignment to complete, so there will be no update this weekend. Orders will close Thursday afternoon, Melbourne time, and I'll get the update done either Thursday night or Friday afternoon.

As usual, please czech the details to see if I've done everything correctly.
:)

Known mistakes
- Bosnia should have +2 IC this turn courtesy of donors

Spend 1 IC to bribe Libya and 1 IC on Greece and spend the other 4 on building a navy. defend mod (no attacks, but defend anything attacked)

My question was lost in the spam it seems. Here it is again:
Does adding IC to espionage efficiency permanently increase it, or is it just increased for that turn?

Thanks for the great update TK.

Minor rule changes

- In a naval battle, the victor takes control of the sea region no matter what the difference between the final strengths are (more of a clarification than a change)
- The victor of a battle will always have at least one army left at the end of the battle.

Does adding IC to espionage efficiency permanently increase it, or is it just increased for that turn?

Permanently. It's cumulative.

Fall of Ankara

fallofthefortofankara.png

From left to right: General Ezel Kosovali (leader of the Başıbozuk), Sultan Husein Gradaščević (supreme commander and leader of the Sipahi) and General Nedim Kahrimanović (Leader of the Jannisarys), in front of the burning fort of Roman Ankara

The siege of Ankara was quick and decisive. The enemy forces were outnumbered 3:1 and our Imperial cannons pulverized the forts walls to the ground and the infantry stormed the city, rape and pillage was forbidden, at least on the Turk population of the city, the newly built Roman part of the city was burned to the ground and our great Sultan ordered the construction of a grand mosque to commemorate the fallen warriors. All of the Roman male population that resisted was executed by impaling but all woman with children were sent to the south and put in small ships and sent back to Rome. Every female around the age of 18-20 that didn't have a husband was allowed to be arrested by the soldiers and forcibly married to them. After the fall of Ankara the other cities in Turkey overthrew the Romans and surrendered to us.
