Iron and Blood - Game Thread

GM: OK ... feedback taken on board from you guys, based on confirmation information received from TK the deputy GM.

Exceptional Ruling in this case only: Xi'An, Southern Han and Siam have declared war on Boj China and Tawantinsuyo has declared war on Xi'an, Southern Han and Siam in the initial phase.

Allies of of the five nations a free to declare war on any of the five nations within the next 20 hours. However, take care as you have N.A.P.s in place., which can be breached and cause instability to you and your allies accordingly.

In future, all I ask is that I am duly informed via confirmation PMs ... because I will not accept joint actions without this normally.

Xi'an Foreign Affairs officially apologizes for this mishap in communication. In the future, we will strive to make sure things are much clearer in our diplomatic proceedings so an incident of this magnitude does not occur again.

GM: Foreign Affairs are tricky business and can cause all sorts of mishaps. I think a write up concerning those officers at fault and what punishments are dished out is a called for. ;)

It's only fair, I should give the nations of Swaziland, Gran Columbia and Siam the right to confirm again their actions, because of this new state of affairs.

As morning broke over the king’s chambers the brilliant light of the rising sun reflected off the mirror on the wall and shone directly in the eyes of King Mswati. It had been a restless night, and he was still tired and somewhat confused by what all the dreams meant, but one thing was certain: there was to be war.

The nation of Tawantisuyo had declared war on Swaziland’s strong ally Siam. The King would not stand for this and he called for his most senior general to give him the news.

When the general arrived at the palace, the palace guard had already begun to prepare. There was frenetic activity everywhere and the whole palace seemed to be abuzz.

“Mobilize your troops general” the King said, “for the great Kingdom of Swaziland has declared war on Tawantisuyo.”

After the general left, the King decided a nap was in order. He hoped that perhaps this time the dreams would be a little more pleasant, but he knew better.

Colombia needs to clarify if they are declaring on you still, so for the moment they are not at war with you. You may want to wait until he states his intentions before involving him.

UPDATE 14.5

Stormy Weather

January 1, 1892

Commentary

Massive weather storms have erupted all over the world, scaring many into believing the gods have been angered. Some are saying the recent diplomatic "faux pas" are at fault and others are saying it is the rise of communism, but all agree the existing world order is changing, and a "New World Order" is on the way.

The storms are causing destruction everywhere and many fear for what is coming next.

The new telegraph and phones systems have been cut in places no one expected. These are probably the real causes for the diplomatic messages not getting through over the past few months.

In response, some nations are strengthening their ties with each other, and others are reconsidering their positions, however they all agree they are entering stormy waters indeed.

As of 2 hours ago really. :p

To summarise.

Current Conflicts
California versus Hawaii (no longer a vassal of Tawantinsuyo)

New Declarations of War
Xi'an versus Boj China
Southern Han versus Boj china
Siam versus Boj China
Tawantinsuyo versus Xi'an
Tawantinsuyo versus Southern Han
Tawantinsuyo versus Siam

Response Declarations of War
Swaziland versus Tawantinsuyo

NOTE: If anyone is still unsure as to why I have two stages, it is to stop one nation declaring war at the last minute and not giving the recipient nation's allies an opportunity to respond.

I now expect over the next 3 days, defensive deployments, naval deployments and attack and counter-attack plans from nations mentioned above. Other allied nations may still issue assistance orders (in secret) but not military movements or actions. e.g. IC donations, etc. (see main rules for details)

I think you should give Gran Colombia a bit of time to confirm whether or not he wants to join the war, as he already said he wished to do.

GM: Gran Columbia has his current N.A.P. to consider which would make it tricky. At this late stage, I will only accept a late entry by them if it is accepted by the nation he is DoWing.

However, Gran Colombia is also an ally of Boj China, and both are Communists where the reason Boj China is being attacked is communism. Dont you think momo might want to defend the ideology that he recently transitioned to? maybe he will decide to leave the UNA to circumvent the NAP. Maybe he will simply ignore it. Point is, give him some time.

But what I REALLY want to know is, why did you go back to calling Peru's DoWs, new DoWs? We have already established they were in response to the ATK attacking its ally. They are a RESPONSE DOW! Therefore, Swaziland's DoW is invalid as peru is merely responding to his ally being attacked. Please correct this, as the way you have it makes no sense if you are going to separate the DoWs into 2 different groups, because here you are just grouping them by the time period where they were made, not what KIND of DoW they are under your rules.

NOTE: I think that within 10 turns or so, the technology in this game will be advanced enough in which surprise attacks (blitzkrieg on poland, pearl harbor, low countries, barbarossa) will be viable, and should be considered fair (at least fair enough to allow them by game rules. Let surprise attacks have their own international consequences if people will consider it cheating or such, but soon they will become a part of warfare at a point OTL, and I think that it would be weird if they werent ITTL). At this point, I think Kiwitt should consider alliances to be automatic DPs to unless stated otherwise in order to remove this whole mess of a system.

Ghost comment: My thoughts:

- Eliminate the distinction between response DoWs and new DoWs.
- Don't allow surprise attacks. The turns represent years, not months.

I just got back from Mexico, and obviously would like to protect my ally Swaziland. Is that acceptable? If not may I contribute income to the cause?

'Protect'? Your 'ally' is the one attacking. Using common sense in combination with kiwitt's DoW system, his DoW is invalid anyway.

TK surprise attacks would be a great way not only to slow down the powers that be from industrializing, and therefore outpacing nations already behind, too quickly, and to even up the odds in a war between smaller nations compared to bigger nations. Say, France vs. Britain. France would obviously win in a fair fight. But what if britain could have performed a surprise attack on france the turn before, catching france off guard with no supplies (no supplies would show they arent ready for an attack, dont have fortifications on the beaches, no defenses prepared, etc.) with a pre-emptive strike. This would also encourage nations to either a take a risk with no supplies and do their own thing while maintaining those large armies, or funding those armies with supplies every turn to keep ready for a war, OR even to disband some armies and fund whats left so that you are ready for an attack, but you have less armies to ward one off simply by size.

It would be very cool, but hard to regulate.. Congrats on surviving this long by the way.

Um...how would it be hard to regulate? Either people declare war in the thread, or they go with a surprise attack. Most of the managing part would be on the player and it wouldnt be that much.

Plus, this would encourage alliances to actually make their alliance an automatic DP sort of thing, so that a surprise attack would only catch the nation off guard for so long (as TK said, this covers 4 years, so countries would be expected to react). In the event of a surprise attack, the nation defending would get automatic support from their allies, and some nations may even start to put aside a number of armies that will be ready to go to an allies assistance in the event of a surprise attack on any of its allies. Instead of huge alliances that are there just to back up somebody's word, then we will have alliances that actually come to each others defense as DPs should do, and possibly smaller alliances to allow better coordination without the confusion of so many players having to participate in a mega alliance.

Hawaii offers Vassalage to Bosnia and a turn by turn tribute due to the vassalage to be determined by Bosnia, should they agree to help us in our just struggle against California, who is dead set on annexing our lands.
