Is a US Border Fence Possible?

Now, I don't really have a position on illegal immigration, and I don't particularly care about anyone elses right now. This is simply a discussion of whether it would even be possible to build a fence to prevent illegals from entering from Mexico. Lets leave the monetary cost out as well. I've seen clips here and there of people scrambling over fences, and others putting them up, but I'm sceptical such a fence would work at all.

It seems to me that with the border the size it is, it would be impossible to use a fence to keep them out, since most fences can be defeated with a good pair of gloves and wire cutters. It's possible the US could post gaurd towers all along the border to accompany a fence, but I don't see the US wanting to project that kind of image.

We already have fences and they don't work. I think that we should arrest all the illegal immigrants who are in America and have them make a human chain to block any illegals that slip in.

The fence is a stupid idea.

A grandiose waste of man power and money.

In other words, a quick fix to a hot topic issue.

Its a pretty dumb idea. It'll take forever to build, cost a gazillion dollars...and im not sure we have the manpower to do it, without immigrants. A wall is not the answer to our border problems

Well the great wall of China worked...

Until the Mongols bribed the guards...:mischief:

Maginot line didn't work either, because human ingenuity always finds ways to get around big, imposing structures.

For the record, I fully support the construction of a Berlin Wall-style structur from San Diego to the Gulf of Mexico. If you want to come to this country, that's fine by me, but there's a right and a wrong way to do it.

The right way is to use a boat.:p

Possible, yes. Practical and effective? Never.

Build a fence? Fine, they'll make like the Cubans and create boats. And since no one really cares in Mexico if they stay or go it is easier for them to pull off then the Cubans.

Better yet, they'll go under the fence. Tunnels are undetectable if they are done properly and can ferry lots of people over an extended period.

Most of them are coming to work and better themselves, I say let them come.

Yeah, but Mexicans don't have money.... :p

Bribing doesn't require money, only talent.:mischief:

I'm thinking of the "Me love you long time" scene from full metal jacket when I say that.

Yeah, they have some lovely women too.

Exactly! A lonely border patrol man, offered some 20 minute/5 minute loving session from an attractive mestizo woman.

Who wouldn't take it?

Just have watchtowers with guards holding tranquilizer dart- sniper guns aiming at Mexicans trying to cross the border. that should stop them. :sniper:

I'm sure it's possible. Why on earth we'd think it a good idea is another question altogether...

The thing I find most strange is it's illegal to ask someone (unless they have been arested) for proof of there citzenship kind of secret police style ..but eh if we wanted to we could make that legal and send them all on planes to chiapas (mexico's farthest state) or to three maria islands (mexicans islands) seeing as how I has to pay 90 bucks and wait three days for a fairy back to colima it should be a pain in the ass and a big deterint sending them right across the border agian is usless hey... I'm right across agian ...okay one more shot etc etc

Border patrol is effective at stoping people they just need MUCH more funding.

allthou it would effect alot of large businesses (which is way it won't happen) they should do better searches of the cars /maybe even pay mexico to let us do them on there side of the border so that we can violate the constitution .... after all my mom did cross in the trunk of a car.:king:

Actually, building a fence is both most practical and most likely the best bang for our buck. If done the same way Israel has done theirs it will work.

Nope. Tunnels are detectable with the right equipment. And from what I am hearing the fenceline will be accompanied with motion and vibration sensors.

Most of them are coming to work and better themselves, I say let them come.

If they want to do it legally, more power to them. Illegally? Nope.
