Is it really that bad?

I am appalled, by the intolerance and arrogance of some members in these forums. Somehow this isn't the spirit of this place how I remembered it to be in Civ IV days.

This forum is called CivFANATICS! So, what esemjay is doing, seems to fit in quite well here. I wouldn't do it myself (I lack the skill, motivation and time), but I respect it and even take a considerable amount of joy by seeing what other players do and how they do it. That is the reason for the existence of these forums! Please note that some very highly valued members of the Civ IV community could also be mocked for doing very nerdy things like posting hours of youtube videos or playing live streams with other players watching... Nobody would even consider to do so.

If this game has a chance to become better (which I hope and believe), it depends to a significant amount on the creativity and insistency of the community. Let's try to be constructive.

Regards,

Buford

its more than likely due to esemjay, being overly argumentative, and offensive to people that dont like civ 5 if you dont like civ 5 he is one of the people that come in and flame you for posting your thoguhts on how the game has been ruined.

Uh huh, look who's talking...
Also, I would like to see some quotes of esemjays "flaming". And I would like to compare them to your posts as well.

Moderator Action: Discuss the topic, not other people.

I agree with BufordTJustice. The more constructive we are and the less we flame and fight here, the better the chances of the game improving. Look what the community did to IV.

for a guy that agrees with him your not being very constructive at all, also esemjay flames all the time on those who dont like civ 5.

I have been quite guilty of flaming in the past. At least, by what is commonly considered to be flaming. However, you will not find a single post where I am flaming because someone else dislikes Civ5. I like to think that I am fairly adept at separating the logical conflict ("I like/dislike Civ5 because of X,Y & Z") from the interpersonal conflict ("If you can't see the problems with Civ5, it's because you're too stupid") when presented to me. I am more than happy to hold a conversation as to why you dislike something, so long as the conversation stops there.

I often feel the need to point out obvious and grotesque perversions of logic, and even more often do I feel the need to bring forward the personal attacks that are made in lieu of actual logic. However, what I (admittedly) have trouble with is NOT being a total douche-nozzle when I point these out. I can be KIND OF a douche-bag; but it doesn't help that I don't know how to point out poor logic and personal attacks without simultaneously "calling them out."

That would be nice; but all it takes is one clown to show up and start smearing crap all over the walls to ruin that environment.

Oh, now I get what the nick means. Clownman. Okay.
Moderator Action: I've said it above: No discussion of members.

Wondering though, is the OP still reading this thread even? Did he try the demo as he was told? Did he like/buy/hate the game? Did he get answers that satisfied his question well enough in his opinion?
Such a simple question evolved into 14 pages (and counting) of discussion and fighting.

LOL I suspect it actually stands for "Chris" or something similar. Moderator Action: I've said it above: No discussion of members. I'm not trying to point out any one person in particular. Just in general, all it takes is one person to show up and sh*t on the coats.
