So the joke is now she will not have sex till marriage? Was he was getting some when she was Amish, or do they not have rules against that?
Lame

Jesus has been made fun of in a lot worse ways in this country, and the people who did so got away with it. They didn't even get tarred and feathered. They shouldn't have pulled it.
And... if Jesus had been the butt of the joke would you feel the same way?

That's the point. Its either ok in all cases or not ok in all cases.
Me, personally, its ok in all cases. I may not always like or appreciate the humor, but any belief worth having can stand up to, of all things, a comic strip.![]()
It's "OK" in the sense that they are allowed to do this - but if I don't like what is in their paper, then I won't buy it. If they want to pull something because it would hurt their business, then fine - but they should realize that it isn't always necessary, and by appearing spineless in some cases, they might lose business that way as well. That's the point. Its either ok in all cases or not ok in all cases.

Who does take Jerry Falwell seriously?Well, the strip did make Jerry Falwell the butt of the joke recently and apparently it wasnt even considered to be pulled since people (i.e christians I guess) dont take such things seriously....
Dude that is NOT funny! Do you want instigate a worldwide jihad or something?!
Who does take Jerry Falwell seriously?
Yeah, I thought it was funny since I read Bloom County back in the day, but I can see where it would come across as kind of lame to somebody unfamilar with the characters. As someone who read Bloom County back in the day (but havent read the new strip with the same characters), you need to know the characters to get the jokes. Steve, from what I remember, was a womanizing jackass who was a total male chauvenist. One of the big running jokes in the old strip was when he had a sex change back in the nineties and got in touch with his feminine side.
The joke here is that the girl is now into all of his ideas about what a woman should be, except he cant get laid anymore. The one thing he probably cares about the most.
Irony basically, just in case Alanis Morrissete is reading.
But to get the joke you need to know the characters.
