Any maps of "'Stan'"? :)

it only takes so long because of the financial troubles that keeps the Greeks down , otherwise the glorious liberation of 'stan would take glorious contribution of the might of armed forces of Greece , rather than the lackluster stuff of US under Barack Hussein . Considering there has been no change whatsoever in plans it's still an all Phantom force for the West and stuff . You would surely love the latest issue of Air Forces Monthly where two exercises are mentioned . In the one in Bulgaria two USAF F-16s play slow intruders that come in from the East and fly Northwards . To Tuna ı guess . In the second -after an almost full page of apologia on why Iranian exercises are so watered down after the nuke deal , you know with them constructing a full size CVN replica to sink with RPG-7s mounted on zodiacs- the Iranians bomb a mock runway with mock Phantoms on it .You would never know how scared I am ...

it's solely meant to avoid a century of "They would have never defeated us without Firefoxes!" . Look for a guy named Clint Eastwood and MiG-31s .

Oct 26 (Reuters) - Two Turkish policemen and seven Islamic State militants were killed in a firefight after police raided more than a dozen houses in Turkey's southeast early on Monday, security sources and government spokesman Numan Kurtulmus said on Monday.

The clash took place in the Kayapinar district of the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir. It was the first such shoot-out between Turkish security forces and suspected Islamic State militants in an inner city; previous confrontations have taken place on the Turkish-Syrian border.

Five police officers were wounded while 12 militants were captured alive, Kurtulmus said.

"An important Islamic State cell has been neutralised," he told reporters. "Work to identify (militants) and to uncover their connections in other cities is still under way."

Blood stained floors of two neighbouring apartments that police said militants used to store weapons. Holes from bullets and explosives marred the walls, according to a Reuters witness. Clothing and shoes were strewn about.

Police said the militants had booby-trapped the dwelling with explosives and smoke continued to rise from smouldering piles after the raid.

The raid on the two apartments was among 17 simultaneous operations launched against Islamic State groups on Monday, the Diyarbakir governor's office said in a statement.

Turkish authorities have extended operations into suspected Islamic State cells after a double suicide bombing in Ankara that killed more than 100 people, the worst attack of its kind in Turkey's modern history, was blamed on the militant group.

Last week, President Tayyip Erdogan said Syrian intelligence and Kurdish militants, not only Islamic State, were behind the attack on a rally of pro-Kurdish activists and civic groups.

Erdogan said Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants, Syrian secret police and the Syrian Kurdish PYD militia had worked together with Islamic State in the bombing on Oct. 10.

Can you imagine that? Erdogan's opponent leftist Kurdish people were killed by all the Erdogan's enemies (except IS I suspect). How convenient! Does anyone in Turkey believe him?

it was probably meant to go peacefully with Police entering the houses at 03 00 in the morning . When this explosion took place at the gate of the garden a shoot out was inevitable . These tend to end bad for people who are raided . The thing about the country is that the polarization taking place will sooner or later lead people to take a side and accept "anything" .

and of course all the pointers to that were reported as anti-democratic nonsense from coup plotters . From the West ... ı don't know why Americans -at places- never report the moves they had whenever there was something that might have helped the Republic . Everybody hates us , the breeding of ISIL would be hailed as the greatest American success ever , with the breeding of anything else .

edit : Ah , let's also be the first about the attacks on glorious freedom fighters of Syria who also happenz to be Kurds . You know the entire war down there is being fought to create a border band that might one day support pipelines to the Med . Which drives Ankara crazy , because then they can't control the to-be 'stan . Which then makes Ankara support all sorts of bearded types who then come back to bite . That's exactly why Russians' chief claim to success upto now is reversing the trend , Alawites will keep the coast . No surprises ; that's exactly why Mersin is earmarked for 'stan in all those glorious American maps Greeks would love to see ...

so , Ankara declares Kurds are not to go West of Euphrates , where all those Islamists including ISIL hold territory between the so called cantons . There was a glorious stuff about F-16s sinking three battleships of the Kurds , you know invented by web activists in places like Germany . Incredibly the Turkish Military refused to fall for that one , knowing well that the reported sinking of 3 boats of "infantry" on board would have to corroborated with gun camera filming , so it turns out that they were sunk by tankfire and tanks do not have gun cameras .

causing dismay in Fehim Taştekin last night . Taştekin has been a firm opponent of the Syrian escapades of the New , wondering aloud why Ankara openly insists on being painted as a supporter of ISIL . He even reported that the Syrian Kurds were entirely refusing the story of boat sinkings . The host , Mirgün Cabas immediately shut him up ; these are the days when precedents are being established for the take over of newspapers and TV channels on charges of supporting terrorism by repeating terrorist announcements . Just for reference value , Mirgün Cabas is a leftie who would have got a life sentence just a couple of years back for calling the cellphone of a Right wing party leader 136 times in a row , causing a magnetic field that caused the party leader's helicopter to crash , killing five .

it's actually specific distinction . You are so free to think otherwise with all those daily dogfights over the Aegean but the Old knew where to stop ; you could almost say they valued human life in cases where there was no way they could win . Saving the power , influence and lives for situations that they could somehow win .

The U.S. will send a small number of U.S. special operations forces into Syria as part of a shift in its strategy against ISIS, officials said Friday.

A senior administration official confirmed that President Barack Obama has authorized a contingent of less than 50 special operations forces to deploy into northern Syria.

"We have been focused on intensifying elements of our strategy that have been working, while also moving away from elements of our approach that have proven less effective," the official explained.

The White House was expected to announce the decision later Friday.

The move will be described as a "shift" but not a "change" in U.S. strategy against ISIS, another senior U.S. official told NBC News. The official said the special operations forces will be stationed in northern Syria and work alongside groups with a "proven track record" of fighting ISIS.

That could include working with Kurdish and allied actors who have come together under the umbrella of the "Syrian Democratic Forces," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the announcement was not yet public.

Rep. Mac Thornberry, chair of the House Armed Services Committee, said the expected announcement made clear the White House was feeling the pressure of a "failed policy" against ISIS.

"I'm concerned that the administration is trying to put in place limited measures — too late — that are not going to make a difference," he told NBC News. "I don't see a strategy towards accomplishing a goal, I see an effort to run out the clock without disaster."

Obama and his administration have come under mounting pressure amid signs the anti-ISIS coalition has stalled or at least failed to turn the tide against the militants — including the recent Pentagon decision to abandon a failed program to train and equip Syrian rebels.

Small signs of a sea change in strategy have been filtering out in recent weeks and gained steam in wake of a U.S.-backed raid to free ISIS hostages that cost the life of a Delta Force commando.

The Islamic State militant group has expanded its presence in central Syria, seizing control of a town that lies near a highway leading to the capital, Damascus, activists and the group said Sunday.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said after intensive clashes with government troops, IS forces captured Mahin in the central province of Homs on Sunday and were now pushing their way northwest toward the majority-Christian town of Sadad. The town is home to Syria's Assyrian Christian minority and the ancient language of Aramaic is still spoken there.

An ISIS-linked terrorist behind the kidnap and murder of an American oil worker was killed in a shootout with Egyptian security forces, officials said Monday.

Egypt's Interior Ministry said Aly Ashraf Hassanein al Gharabli was shot dead after opening fire on police trying to arrest him in Cairo. It did not specify when the operation took place.

The ministry described Gharabli as a "dangerous terrorist" who ran operations for Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, which has pledged allegiance to ISIS and its leader.

Gharabli masterminded the kidnap and murder of American William Henderson and the kidnap and beheading of a Croatian national, according to the Interior Ministry. It also said he was the "planner and main executor" of a bombing at the Italian consulate and an attempted attack targeting tourists at the Karnak Temple in Luxor.

:woohoo:

Kweyris (Syria) (AFP) - Syria's army broke a more than year-long jihadist siege of a military air base in the country's north Tuesday, scoring its first major breakthrough since the beginning of Russia's air campaign.

But the government advance came as at least 22 people were killed in one of the bloodiest mortar attacks yet on the regime's coastal bastion of Latakia.

Syrian troops, backed by pro-government militia, broke through the Islamic State group's siege of the Kweyris military airport in northern Aleppo province, a photographer working with AFP said.

A group of soldiers penetrated IS lines west of the airport and reached government troops inside the base, firing into the air in celebration.

State television also reported the breakthrough and broadcast live from outside the airport, declaring the advance a "victory".

It said a "large number of IS terrorists" were killed but provided no other details.

IS surrounded Kweyris in spring 2014, tightening a siege that rebel groups had begun in April the year before.

The army's offensive to break the siege began at the end of September, with support from Russian warplanes, Iranian troops, fighters from Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah, and the pro-government National Defence Forces militia, Abdel Rahman said.

If the base is completely secured, it could be used by Russian planes -- currently flying out of the Hmeimim base in Latakia province on the Mediterranean coast -- to launch strikes, he said.

"In particular, it will help their efforts to retake all of Aleppo city," which is divided between rebels and regime forces, Abdel Rahman said.

Paint me cynical if you like, but a victory for the Syrian army (with or without militia support) doesn't fill me with glee, for some reason. Even if it is over IS.

apart from the fact if Syrians do not win the butchery will go on forever , 'cause ı don't know , Barack Hussein is a spineless jerk and doesn't know anything else . Oddly surprising for Turkish State allowing the satellite company to allow seperatists news and it turns out Sinjar , the place where all those Yezidis were driven out of , awaits rescue like for a year because there are 500 seperatists placed there and 20 000 shiny uniforms of Barzani and they can't agree on who will lead .

Looks like there was quite a battle:

Good luck to the guys, there are reports that the advance continues. IS has been pushed out of several villages around the airport. Also, South of Aleppo another town was captured, Al-Hadher.

Whose victory would fill you with glee then?

A victory by the forces of common sense, cooperation, and peaceful political negotiation, of course.

Well, maybe not glee. But I'd allow myself a smile of quiet contentment.

Yes, Kurds captured some territory in Iraq, though their activity is most likely limited to northern Iraq/Syria only. There are also reports about SAA forces broke through Al-Nusra defenses South of Aleppo and rapidly advancing.
