It should be "TURKS", not OTTOMANS

But it's also my view that both sides are equally guilty. If things had turned out differently and the Arab/Muslim nations had succeeded in "washing the Zionists into the sea," I have no doubt that Jews in the region would be subjected to exactly what the Palestinians are today. That's not meant as an excuse for Israel, just as an illustration of how, in my view, there are two taking part in this tango. To suggest otherwise--that one side is more or less culpable than the other--is to simplify the situation to an extremely unrealistic degree.

And this is now on topic as ALL of this is the result of the vacuum left in the wake of the Ottoman/Turkish Empire ;).

I stumbled across this thread after looking for somewhere to post the results of a successful fix to a problem in the game (which seems a rare thing to comment on here!) to do with the Ottomans. The problem I had was that whenever I came into contact with that Civ the game crashed. I eventually found out that the solution was to set the leader head to be Sid instead and that fixed it - there's another thread somewhere that describes that which was what I was trying to look for when I found this.

Anyway, having read the totality of this thread now, I've got a few comments:

The above comment from Eric was perhaps the most sensible/balanced view I've seen from any posters. The ability to recognise that there is often not a binary decision to decide the rights and wrongs of an argument - listening and/or understanding to others' point of view - is a sign of a mature intelligence that many people would do well to learn from.

In terms of inaccurately describing civs, many people above have referred to the 'English' empire as apposed to the 'British' Empire. I don't take particular offence to this since I know that many people (including many English friends/relatives) refer to England when they really mean Britain or the UK. However, I know many Scots do take offence in general to this and to the question of the empire specifically since many of the successes of that empire were built on the back of Scots.

Finally on Sweden. Meatballs are great!

then again, using Turk as a more broader term can represent other peoples in history that were Turkish - the Turkmens, the Seljuks, etc., meaning leaders like Tamerlame and Alp Arshan can be included.
