President Trump threatened to use military force against Mexico to stop the "Bad Hombres" from troubling our great nation:

Does this just fill all of us Americans with an immense sense of pride?

Our President willing to put his foot down to rescue us from those Bad Hombres and Evil Muchachos.

Glorious day for America?

I'm going to join the army and fight bad Hombres now to get my medal of honor.

Apparently you're going to war with us too, so that'll be fun.

Should be borne in mind this sort of comment occurring in a phonecall is something the Mexican govt would be keen to deny as well as the staff around Trump.
Damned if I know, sure wish there was someone remotely trustworthy to tell me the Truth.

My guess: Trump said the thing, but nobody expects anything to come of it.

So much for being Americans most faithful and close ally
At the rate that Trump is going, going to be a trade war between US + Russia vs rest of the world

This one seems pretty accurate.

Whenever the MSM goes on one of these "The people must be told" crusades, I find it very useful to take a look at what the other hand is doing.
No. Trump is clearly acting out of line. His executive orders were:
1. Politically motivated - not based any real indication of a threat and instead in line with Trump's call for a Muslim ban and Bannon's insane views
2. Possibly illegal - Trump did this because a total ban on Muslims is obviously illegal, this was deliberately meant to skirt that rule.
3. Poorly implemented (probably on purpose) - did not give clear guidance on how to implement this in airports (part of Bannon's shock the system strategies) didn't make obvious exceptions
4. Cruel - hurting innocent people who did nothing wrong, not letting people who were already in the application process through (many of these already victims of atrocities)
5. Bigoted - based on Trump and Bannon's (and many Americans') general suspicion of Muslims. Instead of defending the innocent, Trump is throwing them under the bus.
6. Instigating - validating the nasty narrative of West vs. Islam.

All these factors combined are especially galling. Especially as many Republicans did not speak out against this sort of behavior during the campaigns, the record disapproval numbers of Donald Trump, his loss of the popular vote, and his lack of a conciliatory tone to the majority of Americans who did not vote for him. The fact that this was one of his earliest actions too sends a strong message about the kind of tone he's aiming for in his administration.

This isn't merely some overhyped media frenzy, this is provocative and disgusting act by Trump

Oh I absolutely agree.... but my point is, look at the amount of time, effort and energy that is placed on these single issues, very often by individuals, corporations and institutions, who were complicit in their creation AND silent in their continuation, who are now so outraged and crying out for our public demonstration. Yanukovich (Ukraine) deserted his post....by crossing into Russia. Hadi (Yemen) is in hiding from "Terrorists".... in Saudi Arabia. Just before the ceasefire in Aleppo the MSM was screaming about up and comming humanitarian disaster of it's occupants....(Something MUST be done!!). Now, after the ceasefire, there is famine and disease, oh and BTW... "moderate rebels" shut off and/or poison the water to a city of 5 million people in Damascus... not a peep. Madonna.... in her best "street cred Stylee" protests anti-womens rights, calls Trump a fascist, and suggests we "blow-up the White House".... I live in New Zealand, a few years ago she brought a huge swathe of land, and a big flash house here, and within a year, her well paid lawyers, were seeking a court order to keep the "common people" aka hardworking farmers off "her" land..... and you think you have immigrant problems :).

The Hypocracy is stunning!!!

A few days ago, the growing fear amongst many Americans was what would replace the Affordable Care Act, and would this also affect Medicaid (free healthcare for the young and the elderly).... Fears were growing, serious questions were being asked and the story was gaining traction... where is it now? POOF!!!! Lost in the ideological noise and miasma of statistics about illegal workers, immigrant terrorists and what Oprah thinks! I know where ACA (aka Obamacare) AND medicaid is.... going through a Republican Congress in the hands of a man (Paul Ryan) who has sought to remove medicaid in every budget proposal he has put forward.... Are we being conned?

You asked...

Damned if I know, sure wish there was someone remotely trustworthy to tell me the Truth.

I can't tell you who to trust.... that comes from personal experience over time. I CAN tell you the mechanisms though:- Step outside the bubble.... then look back. It's a whole different world out here. Out here America (and Americans) are judged by their actions, not their ideals. The news carries substance not memes, it quotes sources not anonymous Government Officials and is oppositional to power, rather than ingratiating. These are the standards by which we should judge our sources of information and ALL voices can carry truths.

you literally just posted a bunch of Russia Today links

Yep... that "Propaganda Bullhorn" that John Kerry so famously stated.... Would you have preferred Press TV?... CCTV? How about some "home grown" subversiveness... Democracy Now... and there are many others.

Now take a look at the CONTENT of those links.... all those stories can be cross referenced and are factually true... I particularly like the one about 100, 000 Romanians protesting against the relaxation of anti-corruption laws just past by it's own (Pro EU) government.... Something that America could take a page from.

"Drain the swamp".... I don't see either side calling to "Raise the land"

If you're trying to prove that the protest movement exists in Romania I'm not sure you need the state media of an illiberal state to do it.

(BTW it is closer to 300k and I'm not sure what "pro-EU" has to do with anything given that the EU Commission head has criticised the measure as a backward step in the fight against corruption)

My point to you.... and this thread, is that you are being conned, using emotional and ideological stimulus to provoke and direct reactive response.... manufacturing consent, to brow beat and demonize certain groups whilst remaining blind and ignorant to crimes and abuses of your own ELECTED representatives.

How should we judge OUR democracy?

It's as Goebbel's put it — good propaganda entails never uttering an outright lie. With RT individual stories isn't what's important, but why those were selected, and the aggregate picture RT uses them to paint.

Oh, and generally, I suggest stopping to watch TV news altogether. It's an amazing medium to elicit gut-reaction emotional responses. Crap at critical analysis and examination. Print media and even radio are a lot better.

As for credibility in media, that's established by reputation and track-record. And NOT which ones told you/me/us what we want(ed) to know, but what can in retrospect be worked out what what we might have NEEDED to know at the time — even when it was unheeded or even dismissed.

For all the problems of knowing things for certain, reality has a kind of inertia that eventually asserts itself, against the best propagandistic efforts, or just the more prevalent wishful thinking around.

Then again, what needs to be recognized and understood about Russian media efforts, is that it is not designed to produce knowledge or certainty, but the opposite — to obscure situations not really THAT obscure, to the point of overwhelming the audience's critical senses, effectively have them give up on working out what's going on, and concluding nobody knows anything anyway. Which is a less ambitious goal than establishing an entire alternative narrative about reality (which has to be consistent to work), and thus is more feasible. Keep away from them, unless actively WANTING to be confused.

Oh, and media consumption in more than one language works for critical distance.

If you can't tell that Russia is not a full democracy and doesn't have a free media, and can't distinguish between the state propaganda arm of such a country and the independent public broadcasters of full democracies with a free press, then I'm not sure that whole self-satisfied radical outsider free thinker thing is working out for you very well at all.

If you think I'm either supportive of, or ignorant about, Australia's abusive human rights abuses inflicted on refugees then you've got a lot to learn here, too. (Hot tip: I'm a member of, and voter for, the largest parliamentary party which actually opposes them)
