An Empire in need of Unity
Long columns of refugees fled the ruins of one of the oldest cities on the face of the earth, Konigsberg. In the slaughter that took place on that dreadful night the people no longer had faith their empire could protect them or at least that is what one would think after seeing a tragedy of this magnitude. In reality it was really an event that made these people want to do nothing but kill Swedes. They not only wanted to kill some they wanted to kill them all until there was nothing left. As the columns of an estimated 10,000 survivors continued to move forward young men stood on the side rallying for their empire. Axes and pitchforks were collected as the True Prussians joined the ranks to defend their homeland and bring unity to the empire and kingdom they loved.
The King of Prussia lay dead as his the city of Kongisberg a city that had stood for centuries of barbaric wars had finally come to an end in an act that will go down in history as the true beginning of the Prussian people. For now they had a united cause and a united enemy which now every Prussian from Hamburg to Mermel hated with every fiber of their being.
King Albrecht Frederick of Kiel was now King of Prussia and faced the nearly impossible job of uniting an empire on the verge of collapse and fragmentation. The King knew the first thing he needed to do was rally the people behind a united cause so he rode to Konigsberg to make a speech to the survivors of the raid. His first line which will go down in Prussian history as the line that saved an empire “I am disgusted, I am appalled, I am sad, I am everything and now the Swedes will feel that and more. I promise you….”
The King then immediately moved the royal court to Danzig the most prosperous city remaining in the union of Prussia. A more central position to oversee and govern his people too hopefully to hold together the fragile unity of the Prussian Empire. He invited his most trusted nobles from all over the empire to his court and of course in front of his court executed those who had betrayed the Prussian Empire and those who had been found guilty of corruption.
Some new policies as traditionally only the land owning and ruling class of the Prussian Empire was considered “True Prussians” however this caused regionalism to rule within the empire. As a way to unite the empire the king issued a new decree saying to be a Prussian you must be honorable, have dignity, be hardworking, and have discipline within the empire. Also, to keep the landowning elite happy they were given the distinct class of “Junker”.
