JB3 - Livin' On A Prayer

Well, let's take Bede up on his generous offer to "change anything!". Salamanca swaps from a library we won't use until the Industrial Age (at least) to a MW. Swap a tile at Niagara, gaining a buck and not losing a turn on the Market. Grand River and Mauch Chunk swap tiles, gaining another buck. Tonawonda swaps from Barracks to Harbor, border city with the Mayan outpost, but won't have shields to build military anytime soon. Thought about walls, but city will be size 7 soon enough. Allegheny was only 1 shield short of Courthouse, swap a lot of tiles to squeeze out a few bucks. Without an Aqueduct and stuck at size 6, Tonawanda runs a tax-man. St. Regis goes from FP to Spear. We need better troops, now. Also allows me to configure Grand River to grow next turn. Centralia goes to Courthouse. I think this is where the FP should go, as we will eventually have to eat into the American territory. Scratch that, war of our choosing won't come for a long time. St. Regis will go back on FP duty, after the military is beefed up. There will be 5 or 6 cities producing troops by the end of my turn. Income went up 4 gpt. Rush Market at Niagara, should send city into WLKD and can start it building its own defenses.

Salamanca: MW --> Spear.
Niagara: Market --> Aqueduct. Population before troops.
Grand River: Market --> Spear.
Allegheny: Court --> Spear.
St. Regis: Spear --> Spear.
Income now +53 gpt. Lux can go to 0%, income to +75 gpt.

Nothing much happens. Build Embassy with US to relieve the boredom. The Americans are up to at least Metallurgy, as they have cannons in their capital.

Running 100% science, so must be receiving gpt from all the other AI. Six lux, one of each strategic resource. Will complete Shakespeare's Theater in 5 turns.
The biggest problem we have is that no one is fighting. Abe may be industrial before the end of my turns, or may just decide to wail on us with Cavalry.

Salamanca: Spear --> Spear.
Grand River: Spear --> Spear.
Some deals are up. Get two more gpt from Abe for our Furs. Get an extra gpt from Thea for horses.
We are so far behind, and I fear an extortion for a resource from our neighbors. Try something radical. (1) Re-negotiate peace with Arabs. Give Horses + WM + 9 gpt, get Engineering + WM. We get a tech for essentially just the Horses, and Abu won't just jack us up for them. We would have had to pay 175 gold to swap WM, so the gpt covers just that. Pay 30 gold to swap WM with Abe, get 26 back from various folks. (2) Re-negotiate peace with the Mayans. Give Incense + 50 gpt, get Feudalism (which is just absurdly expensive). Now nobody can demand nothing, since we have no extras. The Incense was worth 10 gpt in the tech deal, and nobody could actually pay.
I included resources in these deals because we have (volcano-safe) road connections to the Arabs and Mayans. Only if they (or the Americans) declare war on us would these trade routes be in jeopardy. The Americans could finish us in about 5 turns once they get Cavalry. Unfortunately, no 2-fer on Invention exists.

St. Regis: Spear --> Spear.
Kahnwake: Temple --> Spear.
Caughnawaga: Temple --> Harbor.
Starting to replace the cardboard cutouts at the choke points.

Abu demands 28 gold + TM. I let him have it. If we were paying him the 50 gpt, I'd have told him to cram it. We are not at all prepared for a war, no matter how tempting it is to get Engineering + WM for 18 gold.
Salamanca: Spear --> Spear.
Grand River: Spear --> Spear.
Allegheny: Spear --> Trebuchet.
Oka: Temple --> Harbor.
310 AD (6)
Nothing going on.

Hoo-boy. A few Riders suddenly charge through our territory.

This may hit the fan right now. They have an ROP, so I can't do anything about this. I am not certain they are going for us. They are not headed for our softest target. Well, here goes nothing ....
330 AD (8)
They are attacking the Americans! You go Mao!
Washington completes Shakes'.
340 AD (9)
Byz complete Magellans. Check that, the Chinese are not attacking the Americans. They must be attacking the Arabs. Well, this should be stupid.
350 AD (10)
Nothing exciting.
Notes for Ben: I had a (unit) builders turn. All but one of the regular Warriors defending our cities has been drummed out of service. The two choke point cities have three vet spears and a MW. I was trying to put two spears in every city bordering the Americans, and one everywhere else. I was not disbanding regular Spears. You might consider doing so, as there isn't much for some of our cities to build. I would suggest a round of MW's and then one of Trebs to flesh out our military. I'd think at least a dozen artillery are needed. We still have cardboard cut-outs, but after you hook up the iron and upgrade to pikes, it will be really heavy cardboard.
Also note that you have the Peace Treaties to re-negotiate with Mao and the Byz. I had my round of trading in turn 3. It doesn't appear that any 2-fers exist. The more I think about it, the more I question what I did in turn 3. That had the potential to get real ugly if the Chinese had attacked us and we inadvertently went to war with the Mayans or Arabs.
