To the contrary, consider 2006 and 1998. Off parties generally do well in one of the mid terms of a two term Presidency.
We tend to change parties in the White House every eight years. Four is short. Twelve is long. This has been true since the 1800s, except Rooseveldt, who broke a lot of patterns. It does not help that the President is unpopular.
If by "them" you mean Republicans, that would be usual. Democrats would be unusual.

Last 3peat (at last solid victory by a Republican) was Bush the Elder v. Dukakis. In 2016, we will likely get a matchup that is just as stacked in the Dem favor. The powers that be in the GOP haven't figured out how to stop many of their candidates from infringing on Ringling Brothers intellectual property during Presidential primary season.

That may be so, but his opponents both also had that stance. So it couldn't have swayed anyone's mind one way or the other. Also, the tide has changed drastically on this issue in the last 8 years, it's insane how quickly public opinion has turned around on it. I think there are a lot more fence-sitter type of voters who will consider such a stance completely untenable today than there were 8 years ago.
The GOP has traditionally taken a wide stance on gay issues.

How do you figure? Ronald Reagan was extremely popular and his VP had the nomination. Barak Obama is very unpopular and his VP has no chance at the nomination. 2008 is a better comparison than 1988.
Biden is a clown. That was not an insurmountable obstacle in 2008.

I am reluctant to go to the urban dictionary to hind out the meaning of double entendre, but I am sure that if such a perversion was offered in an airport men's room, there would be more tap outs than a WWE pay per view.
Obama's approval ratings are closer to Reagan's than W's at this point in the Presidential cycle and Clinton is basically getting the Bush the Elder treatment in the primary rather than have to face off against a clown car like McCain did.

Warren isn't going to run if Clinton does. I can't really think of anything Warren has done. I can think of plenty of things Walker has done that I don't like. And Clinton is one of the strongest advocates of universal healthcare which America needs.
