Looks good, sticking to the plan. Did you forget the save?

It looks like I'm up. I should be able to play tonight and post tomorrow AM (Eastern DT). I'll try to get a third city up, probably in the N to capture the Horses, Spices and Pigs - maybe on the forest square to the W or the grassland to the SWof the Warrior in Krockel's last screen shot?

SW misses on Spices so I think W is the best option.

SW gets only one of the two Spices, but it does leave room to put another city on the penninsula to the North. (With 2 border pops, we'll get the other Spice eventually.)

On balance I would say the forest W of the warrior is better. The SW spot sacrifices two grassland hills (I think they are hills) for all desert tiles.

EDIT: On second thought, it's probably a toss-up in the long run, so I wouldn't have a problem either way.

Ah! Thanks for pointing those desert squares out. I was looking at the problem from purely an optimal city placement point of view. (Old habits die hard!) W it is, then!

It's looking like we are alone on this continent. In my experience, this means serious backwardness by the time we get around to Astronomy. I think we should make a run at at least one religion pretty soon here, two if we want to go for a cultural victory. Confucianism/Taoism seems about right.

Any thoughts?

Founded 3rd City (Munich) N of Berlin, as discussed in previous posts. City is currenlty building an Archer; should build an Obelisk next to capture the Horses.

Stone is quarried, and Berlin is building the Pyramids - due in 18. Workers are building another Mine in Berlin, so time to Pyramids will drop by a few more turns shortly. Unfortunately, Berlin is over the happiness limit, but there is a half-built Barracks in the queue that could be whipped for 2 pop to eliminate it. I wasn't sure if doing so was worth it before the Pyramids are finished.

Explored more of our island and located Copper in NW corner! It's far away, but it's there if we need it!

Researched finished: Archery, Agriculture, Writing; Sailing in 10.

Below is the turnlog:

Turn 19: (880 BC)
Technology discovered: Writing --> Sailing (11)
Discover Copper in NE corner of our island!

Turn 20: (865 BC)

It does appear that we are on an island, which is why we currently are researching Sailing. As soon as possible, we should build a Galley and sail around the island to the NE. Perhaps there is a coastal tile bridge to another island with one or more other Civs. (Although if there is, I would have expected another civ to reach us by now.)

If we don't meet someone soon, we definitely will be backward by the time we get to Astronomy. If we get it first, however, we may be able to trade our way back into the game (see the 'Jumping to Prince' SG in my sig. for an example.) Nevertheless, Diplomacy or Culture may be our only options for victory. (I've never gone the Culture route.)

Here's the save:

Conquest will take way to long, Domination too, we haven't like a culture win, so it'll be hard. Spaceship or diplomatic seem the way to go.
btw, did you notice the barb city in the NE of your first screenshot?

If we are way behind in techs, a Spaceship win may be difficult

Yes, I did. (It's in the turn log.)

We're probably behind at the moment, but we'rent doomed yet. Space ship is a long time away. So it might still be possible.

Space could be possible, but I think diplomatic would be easiest. Culture is probably out at this point, we would probably have to found all of the remaining religions. Does anyone have any plans/ideas for my turns?

Here are my suggestions:

Get to the second island and settle it as quickly as we can. We will want the land mass and we definitely need any happiness resources we can get our hands on.

Beeline to Philosophy for a Religion (again happiness). Philosophy will also be helpful as I take it we will be running a specialist based economy after Pyramids and we can hasten our GP production with Pacifism and all those food resources we will have. IW and Metal Casting would be good too, but I don't think we will found Taoism if we go there first.

Chop/whip Pyramids ASAP, our research is kind of in the toilet at the moment. Use the unhappy whips on Pyramids for sure, as we will get 75 hammers from each pop with Stone and industrious (I believe). 50 hammers for each forest chop.

I like your thinking rddc05. :)

Whip pyramids and then regrow, build library, hire two specialists for early academy, or to research Philosophy, though I don't know which tech not to research to get that option. Berlin could be used for archer/worker production. While Hamburg produces a Work Boat (I believe I put some shields into that) and then pump out settlers.
Hamburg can produce a workboat and then be a good settler factory.

Regarding the new continent I like the idea to settler there before we settle to many new cities at our home continent. Both barb-cities have good locations and therefore I think we should consider IW as our next resource. Take cities and earn experience is a good way to get more land.

We need more workers to. Cottages are of huge importance if/when we are isolated.

Iron working next seems right. We have jungle to clear and swordsman will make it easier to take the barbarian cities. The copper is a long way off and in the middle of the jungle.

We may not get to found Taoism even if we made straight for it, but going for it after IW seems to be a good plan. We may still meet other AI before Optics and would then want Alphabet. Drama gives up Temples, which will give us an extra happy faces because of the Dye. Music on this path opens up the Notre Dame wonder.

I don't normally settle on a victory type early (this may be a weakness in my game), but Diplomacy seems like a very possible path. With our expansive trait and a push for happiness through the representation civic, resources, wonders, even the culture slider, we could build some really large cities in this corner of the world.

In order to get Philosophy we would have to have the pre-reqs (Meditation and either Code of Laws or Drama) plus Mathematics. If we skipped alpabet we would only need Code of Laws. To beeline we would need to go Meditation->Priesthood->CoL->Philosophy. Alphabet wouldn't really do much for us right now, while Code of Laws would be extremely beneficial.

So, I propose IW->Med.->Priesthood->CoL and hopefully we can get a Great Scientist to help us found Taoism.

If we get a GE from the Pyramids we can either use it on a wonder or get Metal Casting. I would prefer to get the GS first though.

I'l play soon. My plan is to switch research to IW after sailing, whip/chop pyramids, and start a library for the scientist. Also probably expand a little and start exploration of the other island.

Quiet turns.

Beginning: Just moving units around. Workers finish mine. One starts chopping, the other starts a road to Munich. Switch Munich to an obelisk so it can reach its potential quickly.

Middle: Moving units again. Hamburg: Archer-Work Boat. Pop a hut with hostile barbs in the north. Our warrior kills them and is almost done healing right now.

Late: Whip pyramids for 2 pop and finish them on my last turn. Next player can revolt. Sailing-IW. Hamburg: Work boat-Library. We can put some scientists there, it has lots of food. It also won't be tainted by engineers. I MMed for production to cut down the turns. I thought we needed to get the library out quickly to start with the scientists, but we might want to get a galley out first.

Research on iron working is very slow, somewhere around 20 turns. I think we should switch Berlin to work cottages (we need to build some). There isn't really an urgent production need. Maybe produce a worker while building some cottages and then switch to them.

I think we should kill the barbs and settle our complete continent before others start arriving (but after CoL for courthouses). I don't like the idea of other making colonies on OUR continent.
