Meh, Kennedy was alright, not my favorite, but nowhere near awful.

@Traitorfish- Its worse since Civver is an American too..

Since when did Jefferson have anything to do with ethnic cleansing? (I'm aware he was proslavery, well, sort of....)

He owned slaves. You don't get more pro slavery than that. :p

Theoretically true, but not necessarily. First a Devil's Advocate argument, most murderers probably aren't pro-murder, and most theives aren't pro-theft, they justify themselves in some way. Maybe the person the murderer killed slept with the murderer's wife. Maybe the theif only stole a piece of candy and decided a huge store chain wouldn't care. I wouldn't endorse either of those things, but it can be justified. In a society where people are going to have slaves, even if you theoretically oppose slavery, its not hard to justify owning slaves if you're going to treat them better than whoever will own them if you don't. And of course, its not like there were a whole lot of economic opportunities for blacks anyway. Being in a situation of slavery where you were treated well may have been the best available situation. I'm not endorsing it, but its easy to justify. Its not as obvious as it looks.

He was fairly positive for Civil Rights (though didn't really get that much done) and he didn't listen to some of his more wacko advisers during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and pretty much had a level head throughout the whole thing. Other than that, I have a mostly negative opinion of his presidency. Most of his other minor achievements are equally balanced out by minor blemishes.

He never freed his own slaves, and most of his opposition to the Washington-Hamilton program was based on not allowing the government to interfere with slavery. It is a very pro slavery record.

I have a hard time believing we see the civil rights progress we did in the 60s without JFK.

Since I'm apathetic about him, I voted "average". The Pole really ought to have had a "none of the above" option of some sort.

He made the Moon landings possible, ergo he was the best president the US has ever had.

A $1bn (in 1960s money) me first contest. I'm sure at the time it seems more important then, than it seems now.

Yes, how dare they? Not worshipping at least one president as any good American should!

I think he's cut a lot of slack due to his assassination.

However, he did diffuse the greatest crisis in American history, and while one could say any other President could have done that, the fact remains HE is the one that did it.

Would it make him the greatest? Probably not. Does it make him a lot more important than one could think? Heck yes.

Consider that if nuclear war erupted, most of us would probably not be here right now. A leader should get dues for the consequences of decisions and not just the decisions themselves.

That's 95% a triumph for espionage and 5% for having a president who was so much under the influence of drugs, that had the side-effect of taking extreme risks (can't remember their name).

hate to say this, but the moon landings were worthless and a huge waste of money. There's a reason the Soviets never landed on the moon (besides technical inferiority), there was no reason to. It's a lifeless piece of rock.

But then again, you guys know my views on manned space travel. It's all worthless.
