    No, we aint met anyone=\
What is the map script again?
Anyway, archers are better defenders, I agree, but they wont be around up until: finish BW-11 turns,Hunting = 5/6 turns, Archery=9/10 turns.
the problem is that doing warior is about 6 turns, cus we dont have much production at Paris.

Yeah, I also would have sent our 2nd warrior east to explore. 1st warrior could have been sent back to Paris to defend.

We can probably wait until Bronze Working is in before settling our 2nd city. A 3rd warrior should only take a few turns and you can use him to escort the settler. By that time we should also know what's to the east.

Red dot is not a bad site, but what about sacrificing the coastline and moving it 1 square south to include the row of hills for production? We can also squeeze another coastal city between the red and green dots.

In the south, I prefer orange and purple. White dot takes too much from Paris.

well, we can do the moving at red, but then we will include more mountians, and loose the shore, and we will probably need costal cities if we are alone in this island.

If you're going to switch to production of a warrior, send the one defending in paris west to fog bust for the four turns it'll take to do the warrior. Then, chop out a settler and perhaps another worker. (Then, chop a wonder perhaps?).

We didn't go east much b/c the warrior just went around counter-clockwise just to see what was near us...by the time i finished the circuit, it just made more sense to finish up the west. would've sent the 2nd warrior east, but it's really no matter, methinks.

The script is continents so we may be the only civ w/our own island.

Since your going to go to a warrior, you might as well wait to go settler until BW and chop it quikly. After the warrior, perhaps a barracks can be started while we wait for BW to come in?

I agree that we should see what turns up w/BW and Copper, and plan our dot maps accordingly. Thinking on that, a city that could nab all 5 of those sugars, there on the river, should be the GPF...much higher suplus of food in teh long run. Therefore, maybe Paris should be a science city?? making pottery much more imperative ~ isn't hunting on the way there? Also, if we have copper nearby, I don't thikn we'd need archers as quickly.

I'm gonna make My First Dot-map (TM) once we see where copper's at. How do I post pics so that they show up on the thread and not in a thumbnail? Also, what pic. size should i use to prevent wrap?

well, Im uploading the pics to www.imageshack.us and then add them to my post using the "Image Insert" button near the B/I/U functions.
our closest unit is Chariot, which we will be able to build in the moment the hourse will be connected to paris - 2/3 turns. it doesnt need BW.
I suggest to continue will settler until road is done, then u can flip to Chariot, they are the best to clear fog except Scouts, because they got 2 movment+they are stronger then warior.

Yeah, I am going to chop the settler. I'm not concerned that we have a poor production capital, its rich in other respects. Bronze working will allow slavery so we can whip stuff

two warriors to the west and we shouldnt have barb issues.

    Then we can expand east

Chariots are stronger yes, but they cost more in shields, and get no terrain bonuses. Since we do not have raging barbs...i am not worried about axemen...(the only thing a fortified warrior is afraid of

A fog busting fortified warrior on a forested hill is as strong as a chariot.

i will continue the road to the new city site (assuming BW doesnt show copper in a place we should go.

revolt to slavery, and focus paris on food production...maybe another work boat...but thats after a warrior or two more.

chariots are good as a rapid reaction force, and theyre great when terrain in flat and nonforested

sweet. if possible, could you please post a screen of our whole territory to allow for easy dot-mapping for us :)

if you get this after you post, no worries. I'll pull one from the save.

Ah, BW. My favorite tech. All that chopping and whipping, I'm so excited!

Thoughts: we have plenty of food resources in Paris. We should get some cottages laid down ASAP so that these new citizens can start growing them as soon as they are born. Infants are notoriously lazy, you gotta get em working hard right from birth or they are spoiled for life!
So are we skipping the oracle? both religions have been founded, so I'm pretty sure one AI at least already has priesthood by now, if not already building the oracle. We are industrious though, are we not? We could still try and make a crack at it. If anything, we could lose it and have some gold to run defecit reserrch. I am leaning towards trying to hit the pyramids instead though. Without the Civil Service slingshot, I think Pyramids are by far the most powerful wonder till near the modern era. Also, we will only have to reserch one tech we need anyway(for cottages) before masonry, as opposed to Myst then Rel then Priesthood.
Long story short, I think we could definitely make a run for one of these wonders, as we are industrious, but we would need to decide now, before another turnset I believe (especially with oracle, we still might even lose it).
    Colossus would be nice too.

Anyone up for bulding a workboat and trying for circumnavigation?

Pyramids, I think, would be best to go for at this point. Starting on an island, we can use it to take rep very early and try to stay at least on par tech-wise.

Agreed, too, about the need for cottages ASAP. With all those sugars on the river, as i noted, THAT should be the GPF, and leave Paris for commerce and such, w/heavy use of the whip.

I dont think that pottery should be our next tech. It all depends if we have copper or not. If not, we must go to archery throw Hunting->Archery.

Okay, I am in DC, so that means, in about 4-6 hours.

Yeah, I think there's enough trees that we can chop the pyramids...Oracle is probably too far gone for us...plus its not like we're gonna see the AI for awhille, except for capac.

I know by the way , we can't circumnavigate with workboats. We gotta wait till caravels

anyways, a few hours form now..

by the way, great discussion !

What are the techs that increase the chop yield? Does anybody know off-hand??

Health resources seem like they'll be the problem here, as there's only cow, pigs, fish, and clams ~ esp if we go Rep. w/the Pyramids. Harbor will give us +1 for the fish and clams, but we need Supermarkets to gain a bonus from the pastured food. Hopefully, there might be more to the east. Perhaps make Astronomy a priority to be able to trade overseas??

Paris wont get health problems. fish+clam+fresh water tile is great + you forgot the Acuaduct.
And as far as I know there's nothing which can increase the chop yield.

True, I didn't mean just Paris, though. If we go w/Rep, along w/all the luxury resources here, I meant that health (rather than happ) will be our limitation.

Also, I thought there was something b/c at some pts you get like 45 or 50 h's per chop and other times you get 75 or a 100 ~ i'll ask @ gen'l discussion

Forges increase production of buildings, and therefore, yield of forest chopping when that chop benefits a building

we already get a bonus on chopping for wonders because of the industrious trait.

I know you all are itching for the next installment. I gotta go to the grocery store though... soon mybrothers!

=P. In the mean time I started a singleplayer game, random civ - drew China, at Pangea map, standard size, prince level. my location was at a peninsula, but behind me was Tokugawa. I had marble and copper and ivory...
I got lucky to build a very productive city, and thanks to the Oracle which I built I got the tech lead. Toku didnt have copper but had Iron, so i quickly whipped and built an army of axes and got one of his cities and ruined his economy and score=P. next I could build Elephants and Cats and conquered another city of his. his only strong units were hourse archers cus i pillaged his iron=PP. his hourses were no match to my Elephs, seriously those units are awesome (I only now came to realise it cus i dont get ivory frequently and dont go to early wars up until this month...). But then Alex, who was my friend, backstabbed me (it happeneds every time!!!) man this guy cant be trusted. So I made peace with Toku and moved my army all the way back, cus Alex was in the opposite frontier...ARGH...he took my poorest city, but that was it. i killed all of his units (again, he used hourses and I waked them with Elephs =PP) and made peace again.
Well that was it for today=]
Now back to our game...PLAY IT!!! The file whispers to you...JerichoHill.....JeRicHoHiLl....

Well, I had this whole turnset written up. Yeah.

    Key Takeaways

The Avoid Growth was used. Then when we got Bronze Working 3 turns earlier due to city growth and micromanagement, I went to slavery and whipped the settler. It is available 1 square away from the red dot 2nd city site. The road to the second city will be done 1 turn after the city is founded

We're on an island. We just need warriors to fogbust.

Paris is building the second workboat. I would see that it grows quickly back up to its max, then avoid growth.

After the workboat is built, I would start on a worker. Our first worker can chop for the pyramids.

Remember the chopping exploit. Build stuff in your city taht will get the wonder. The turn before the chop is finished (it will say 2 turns to shop or something at th ebeginng of the turn, or 1 turns at the end), switch production to the pyramids.

Since we're island, the colussus is important. Also, naval techs are important. More than land military techs at this point.

I've got several warriors out. Send them to fogbust. One or two more and we will never deal with a barbarian. Ever.

    Whipping is a wonderful thing.

See the thumbnails. We've got enough space to build 8 cities with minimal overlapping. Let's try not to overlap too much.

    Research:

After masonry, lets go to get priesthood, and try to chop the oracle while finishing writing. We could really use a religion if were going for a cultural victory, which looks like our best path so far given what the island has for us.
