Just throwing this out there, without a clue about the sensitivities around here...

Because I am rather new to this whole concept of sharing my thoughts with strangers about a game that I love to play, just because here I may assume that most people at least know what I am talking about when I am rambling on about where I built a certain city and for which strategic reasons etcetera... I tried to put into writing some of my own preconceptions I have had about the social dynamics that give life to a forum, which may have withheld me from joining, for much longer that it should have ;)

Keep in mind that I was in a mood to jest when the following words appeared in my head:

I don't understand why I always get the impression that on any Forum that revolves around a particular subject of popular interest, the opinions of the participants of any discussion taking place on that forum, is not only valued for its meaning, insight or passion for the subject of interest, but so often so greatly depends on the status the the person that posted the comment holds on the Forum in question.

Is my logic so hard to follow, that just because somebody withheld sharing their opinions and ideas about the issues discussed therein, during the long period where they were so deeply involved in exploring all the of the delicate aspects of that which had fascinated them so much for so long, it led them to believe in a fiction, in which there couldn't possibly be that many others with the same level of involvement alive on the planet, who had managed to keep those abilities in tact, which allow them to function (almost) like regular people.

So consider this train of thought I have led you on with my rebellious sounding tale, when you skip over a reply from a newbe, just to see what that guy, you never actually met in person, but has had the Deity status for quite some time, with over 4800 occasions where he felt he had something so important to share with his fellow members, that it would enrich their lives with the insights he chose to share at that moment so much that they should be grateful he does not keep all this wisdom solely to himself.

Consider that someone who just figured out, that while he spent every minute he could spare researching the subject that sparked so much of his personal interest, he'd gladly sacrifice the fame and the respect that comes with being a forum big-wig, for a few extra hours, spent on playing his favorite game!

Peace, love and joy to you all!

What or who are you talking about, sir? Who has more than 4800 posts, specifically?

edit: ooh look, I do. Is it me? No, that can't be right. I don't research anything. No, wait. Tell me now. Otherwise I'll worry.

Whoa!

My life is now void of meaning.

Whoa!

Hahah lol, someone has already proved to be honest enough, he'll be the first to admit, he thought I was refering to him personally :)
The fact that I don't know anyone here, except for the friend that suggested I'd join in on the fun, makes it even funnier in my opinion ;)

I find your OP 1/17th more interesting than your previous post

I am surprised you've read any of them :P

PS. I hope you'll understand, I will not make an attempt to go through your 3686 comments, just to see if I can find any gems among them ;)

Your meaning, sir, is obscure to me. To say the least.

edit: the only reason I asked is because you specifically mentioned someone who'd posted over 4800 times. I didn't see why you might mean me. But I've puzzled over the other members whose post count is between 4800 and 5000, and I can't see why you'd be referring to them either. Your previous posts hold no clue either. So what are you talking about? Pray tell.

I am mystified. But if, by some act of negligence, I have offended you, then I naturally apologize.

I thought he'd given up all his previous glory that comes with 4800 posts and decided to walk the earth like a newbie.. I guess I was mistaken.

Who me? Yes I had decided that. Just that I haven't bothered. And I don't like to bother moderators who've got better things to do. Maybe I should. But that might draw more attention to me than I warrant. So... I'm undecided. Also I don't know whether it can be done.

And in any case there's no glory in post count. At least in my estimation.

Anyway, what's this got to do with "Just throwing this out there,..."?

No, I meant Veltemaster, but now that you mention it - I notice that you and Veltemaster never seem to be around at the same moment... :hmm:

That's just because I have trouble keeping three accounts active at the same time. But have no fear, I'm working on it. :)

Hihi... I just picked a random number between 4000 and 6000... so please stop worrying about this! This whole thread was just an attempt to figure out for myself how sensitive people on this forum are about this subject ;)

PS. Which is also why I wrote I was: "Just throwing this out there..." It was Anandus that told me not to fear the responses and just post the whole thing in a new thread in the Tavern. Which is just the place, he assured me, for discovering whether Jesting would soon develop into Jousting ;)

I was only putting into writing some of my own preconceptions I had about this forum. The thing with preconceptions is, thankfully, they usually turn out to be wrong! :)

(But it still seems a little funny to me that after hitting the 4000 posts mark, your forum status goes up to Deity level, but I am glad nobody here seems to take any pride in this)

My first reaction to your OP: "Whut?"

I think you are asking if people pay attention to the posts of somebody with a lot of posts but who is a stranger to the Off-Topic forums because they previously stayed in the Civ forums?

As for "Deity"... well, I hit that level a long time ago. However, I'm atheist, and so I would never claim to be an imaginary being. It's a lot more fun to come up with an original usertitle, anyway. :p

Haha, I am happy everyone gets the joke!

I seem to have provided you wonderful civ-fanatics with a little provocative entertainment that you appreciate much more than you are offended by... :)

...fame and the respect that comes with being a forum big-wig,...!

All my life I have forever aspired to become a forum big-wig. And now that I understand that 4800 is the Glory-Post, I will endeavor to persevere. I will quit my job, leave my family and relocate to an isolated mountain cave with only an animal-hide garment, a stick, and high-speed Internet, and shall work tirelessly day and night to achieve maximum exposure on these forums.:crazyeye:

I used to be intimidated by post-count. And then I met GW. :crazyeye: :mischief:   :D

(Might have been a little over the top, appropriate apology already being researched.)

I skipped over the OP and now I'm incredibly confused.
